Because Butler insists that his changes don’t weaken the team.
Replace a front 3 of Roberts, Whitehall, Jones with Dausch, Howe, Smith and that doesn’t weaken the team? Only one person doesn’t think so.
(Before anybody counters with “what do you expect him to say?” My response is “nothing rather than b******t”)

BTW I don’t suppose we could strike lucky and get FGR could we? Fans would be delighted to have the opportunity to sing an apology to Robbie I’m sure.

Weakened team at Gateshead – unacceptable
Weakened team on Saturday – essential

Southend team selection would suggest they’d settled for an away play off game. Likely that our Saturday team might not be first eleven.

A valid conclusion but you only arrive at that if you don’t have a downer on Whitehall. I think your “underestimated” point is probably right also. As I’ve said elsewhere, Butler’s idea of system changes to counter the opposition just confuses the players. 4-3-3, round pegs in round holes and the players know their jobs and can play to their strengths. lancsiron’s point about GK and defence changes must also have contributed.

Well I’ve already posted once on this but I’ve since had a sleep and listened to AB’s post match interviews and more thoughts have made further comment required. In response to the question “why did you start with a back 3″ the response was, not verbatim, ” I needed to try in case we have to use it in the play offs” WHY!!!
What is this obsession with setting up to match the opposition? We can’t play 3-5-2 because we don’t have any WBs, the closest would be Scales & Denton but it’s not natural for either and it’s a complete waste of Pat Jones ability. Set up with a system that suits our players strengths and let the opposition match that if they want to.
I also think that our top class MF had a collective off day, understandable perhaps when they spent most of the game watching the ball flying from back to front over their heads.

A good illustration of how poor we are without Roberts.
Playing Jones at RWB is just unbelievable.
Changing systems during the game, sometimes more than once, just seems to confuse the players. We played our best, IMO, as a 4-3-3 and we have the players to fit that system.

They’ve nothing to play for in the league and have a Wembley final to look forward to. Could be that they’ll rest a few?

They’re both fruit cakes SS so I guess that’s the suggestion. You’ll get used to what passes for humour on here the longer you stay. Don’t take offence, none intended I’m sure.

The problem being that the manager does not accept that resting, for example, Roberts, Whitehall, Rowley, JB, Westbrooke will weaken the team.
(Not when he speaks in public anyway)

Fans that seems fair enough. An Uber fan craving attention and one that promotes himself by handing out mugs he’s had specifically made, now that’s something else.
And from what you say will dump us when a certain player moves on.
Nothing sinister but not warranted either, unless you want to make your play of why it is.

Fans support clubs in different ways. Some buy season tickets, some buy shirts, some buy shares, some provide sponsorship, some watch occasionally (some only go to away games you know!) and, as we’ve seen, many give their time voluntarily.
That’s his way of supporting our club, albeit only temporarily. You think it’s OTT, I think it’s harmless.

It has been stated that PD is a close friend of a current players father in law. Is it, therefore, a surprise that they are fans of whichever club the son in law is playing for? Nothing sinister in that as far as I can see. (unless you want there to be of course)

For Steve’s benefit. I make no apology for reposting something I posted yesterday which is more relevant on this thread.

“I think the problem some non Bruers have is they consider Bru to be a band of brothers who speak with one voice, hence “that lot”. If they had a read they would see the diversity of opinion, it would be bloody boring if we thought as one.”

Quite right, the Board identified quickly that he was out of his depth at Scunthorpe.

It was this current board that sacked Jimmy after achieving 2nd place have you forgot.

Firstly let me confirm that I do not have a downer on Andy Butler. BUT – he needs to give up the delusional approach and get real, he’s fooling nobody. I’ve just listened to his Brackley pre-match interview when he also looked back to the Gateshead match and said “the changes I made didn’t weaken the team”
So Smith, Howe & Dausch are a fair exchange for Jones, Whitehall & Roberts are they?
Better to say nothing than talk what we all know is nonsense.

So that’s Rowley, Horton, Smith, PJones, Whitehall & Rose definitely. Any more? Did Dec get 2 years?
Need Roberts, JB & Beestin asap and a contract ready for Westbrooke.
Assuming (dangerous I know) that Ewing will be away – shame.

Check out Denton too. TBF as a whole our pass success rate must be abysmal. Do the staff have access to this stuff because there’s been no noticable improvement.

Difficult to disagree with your 1st XI MK, Barrows done enough to be a useful sub. IMO. I haven’t given up on Smith yet but he’s been woeful so far on his return, he can’t have become a bad player surely, is he having his blip? I think Jones might be our new No1 next season so I’d expect him to play.

It’s a squad game MK. We’ve got fit players ready to replace them like Belehuan and err……. Barrows and err…….. Scales can cover at RB and I think Brogan played CB once.
You saw how effective our non regular starters can be yesterday, nothing to worry about.

Well I’ve listened to both interviews now, pretty much as expected, I’m not sure Butler understands fans very well. Obviously I don’t pretend to speak for all but I take issue with AB’s view that “he understands fans frustration with the result” No Andy, I’m DISAPPOINTED with the result, I know we’re not going to win every game, I’m FRUSTRATED by the performance which was terrible.
I also understand the logic behind getting squad players game time ready for the play offs but surely he can see that, irrespective of how fit and ready they are, most of them are unlikely to make any significant contribution to a successful play off campaign.

I’ve deliberately not listened to the after match interviews as I’ve a fair idea what will have been said. Did he give any rationale behind bringing Pat Jones on at RB when were were 2-0 down?
