Quite different circumstances though. He was only relieved of his position when it was clear he didn’t think he could work with a much lower squad budget. Unless I’m mistaken? This was unique to him compared to previously sacked managers.
April 12, 2026 at 5:50 pm #319301Jimmy didn’t say he couldn’t work with a smaller budget, the club wanted a smaller budget and Butler was the cheaper option.
Was on his coaching salary from the may till the October when he was offered a contract, well that’s what we were told by Michelle whether you believe it or not that’s the question.April 12, 2026 at 5:55 pm #319302Jimmy should never have been appointed in the first place IMO, your buddy Hilton was responsible for that Awaywego, we are too big a club for little itchy and scratchy to manage, the new board after Hilton made the right choice booting him out.

April 12, 2026 at 6:16 pm #319304Quite right, the Board identified quickly that he was out of his depth at Scunthorpe.
It was this current board that sacked Jimmy after achieving 2nd place have you forgot.

Correct cass much like the man who appointed him.
April 12, 2026 at 7:10 pm #319307As much as we didn’t want him in the end, and Ironawe you stayed loyal to him longer than I did.
To say he was out of his depth is probably a bit harsh the noise he had to put up with that season was extraordinary In any circumstances, did very well to keep the team going imo.
Twas his football style that did for me in the end.
Plus the final straw having fans travel up to Darlo some for the third time and then putting in an abject performance in. (Butler’s as underseen more of those abject games than Jimmy did)
Butler though, he got us promotion and that trumps it for him over Jimmy even if a was a shite season football wise.
Promotion was everything however it came.April 12, 2026 at 7:37 pm #319311As he can’t win a lower league with of some ex league players, you’d have to say the board got the decision right.

Not quite!
Dean was dismissed after losing the playoffs.
Butler was retained after winning them.
April 13, 2026 at 6:52 pm #319336Just shows how fickle owners are sacking him on the back of one penalty miss.
Very lucky he wasn’t sacked after the Marine game firstly for the football and the poor run we was on, (did say at the time not sure whether any board members were there to witness it)and then for the interview.
Hopefully for him it was that Mark Robins moment that helped save Fergie from the sack.
I’ll take another lucky manager.April 13, 2026 at 8:04 pm #319349Nowt to do with one penalty miss, his squad selection on the day was pathetic going with an extra keeper on the bench instead of another outfield player ( remember we had Boycey as stand in keeper if needed ) then playing one up top in a semi final at home he had to win in front of a huge crowd. JD bottled it he couldn’t make the correct decision because he couldn’t handle the pressure of the occasion, as I said the job was too big for him he had small club mentality.
April 13, 2026 at 8:36 pm #319356I were telling you all season we were bottling it, you were the one backing his results as good ones, telling us that the draw at Boston was a good point (you still tell us this season)when for those who went it really really wasn’t we bottled it.
Funnily enough if we held on for the win there Boston wouldn’t have made the playoffs.
We were shite in the playoff game no doubt, they were dead on their feet in extra time and we didn’t push on to win more scared to lose.
But it still just came down to one penalty miss why we didn’t progress they didn’t deserve to win anymore than we did.April 13, 2026 at 9:03 pm #319358All ifs and buts IMO if he’d played two up top we’d have won in normal time but you can’t argue the point his squad selection on the day was abject in a must win game.
April 13, 2026 at 9:24 pm #319362Absolutely pointless but every time I see ‘Butler Keeps Winning’ I’m reminded of ‘Boys Keep Swinging’ by Bowie. Apropos of nothing.

Unfortunately Butler doesn’t always work it out.

April 14, 2026 at 12:29 pm #319381Not Laws anyway – though I believe Burnley fans want rid of Parker so who knows…
