Anybody in charge, in their right mind, who heard Zanetti’s slurred garbage on the tannoy at half time in the Chester league game would have binned him on the spot (literally the centre spot). They didn’t and here we are.

Might not have been as simple as that given how far down the line of planning they were (contracts, promotion, agreements etc)

I get that but, after all the pre match stuff from the club telling fans not to do anything that might cause trouble, they invite someone to have the microphone who promptly starts chanting “F off Chester” after his initial incoherent nonsense fizzled out. Did they need to see any more ? I didn’t.

Actually quite funny on the day, imho, seeing someone make such a tit of themselves. But in truth a real low point, more suited to the Hilton era.

I clearly remember, just after Tom Zanetti finished his little display, James Moody saying over the PA “Oh dear, that was embarrassing… I’ll tell you what he should have told you” – and then giving details of the Weekender.

I’ve watched the video of Truss and the thug, I’ve no idea where it was filmed but it certainly wasn’t filmed at the Attis arena, there is no room in the building that’s decorated like the room those two are filmed in.

It’s San Pietro. Check the wallpaper.

Who has got the Club associated with all this lot ?
Who is responsible for allowing all this and these type of people having access into our Club.?

Not the first time in very recent years that dubious types have been walking the corridors of GP.

The hosting of ‘this lot’ is more down to Tom Z than the Club, surely?

Personally, I think the 2025/25 kit has been amongst the best looking we’ve had in the last 40 years. Whatever the actual kit for 2025/26, some will like it and some won’t. Then it’ll be changed in a year.

You just always hope to avoid either i) the designers trying to be (too) clever, or ii) the designers not giving a toss… We’ve had a couple of absolute shockers and one or two very average kits over the years for those reasons, imho.

We got promoted and AB did just fine, be grateful of the promotion and keep looking forward.

In his first season as manager he got us over the promotion line, which more experienced manager Jimmy Dean failed to do, playing (some say) worse football than Jimmy Dean, and also without the messiah Jacob Butterfield. I’d say that all told Butler did a very good job – you have to expect that there will be some ups and downs during the course of a season, and there were, and he rode them fairly well.

I’m pretty sure that Michelle has also stated that we will now only be offering out 1 year deals??

I’ve not heard that in any of the interviews I’ve listened to.

Mind you, salary isn’t everything. Some may welcome the challenge of the NL.

Not just that. Again, fairly recently Michelle said something about some players have families and prefer the security of longer contracts even if it will mean slightly less in wages – so that may work in our favour (Clunan and Whitehall).

Interview with Steve Torpey on Radio Humberside discussing the retained list so far, and his thoughts on it. Of those listed as having been offered contracts, he expects some to go though he didn’t say who. What are everyone on here’s instincts about that party of the retained list? Who do you think will stay, and who do you think will go?

I reckon most people who watch football will attempt to put the manager right on football than a bricky on how to build a wall but hey it’s again just another opinion and most people are only interested in their own.

Yes, more will attempt to put a football manager right. You don’t often get multiple thousand people turning up to watch someone lay a brick.

Correct so your initial analogy was flawed, I accept your apology you don’t have to come back and offer another.

It wasn’t flawed. You have failed to understand it.

I can cope with a back 5 if we have the players but we didn’t. We had FBs trying to be WBs and 3 CBs with no pace which at least one should have. My opinion only.

I think we were a player short in each department, tbh. Midfield lacked a hard nut and up front lacked a fox in the box.

I think most professional sportspeople have ego’s it goes with the territory I guess. They are superior in ability compared to the average person when it comes to sport so to be told by these people they are doing it wrong will rankle them a bit. Ego, arrogance call it what you will but most of them have it and the response to people who say ” I’ve watched this game 50 years I’m entitled to my opinion” is,” absolutely you are but I don’t have to take any notice of you because you’ve never been a professional in the sport like me “. Arrogance and ego part and parcel of the everyday professional sportspeoples profile.

A bit of this, maybe, but couldn’t you say the same about plumbers, bricklayers, accountants, computer programmers, mechanics, teachers, doctors, opticians, etc etc..? There’s always someone with little to no experience who thinks they can do your job better than you can. The only exception is DJs – their job is a con and even one short plank with turkey teeth could do it.

There you go then. These things are important in contract negotiations. It’s not just about what your annual wage is, even at our level.

I thought he said we started the season with a back 5 and finished with a back 5. I took that as a reference to putting Boycie on at the end and having a pop at those (me included) that were critical of playing a back 5 for too long.

Ah, got you. I’m pretty sure he also said something about next season in this context, though.

I’d say the point about position and style of play is about expectations, too. “We expect 20 goals out of you, and if you get them you achieve your bonus” (which, in financial terms, for some players could be the factor that swings the decision)… Yet the Club intends to play a system that is likely to put you out of your natural position…

So a player might only sign if he can play in a position or certain way that suits him? Sounds like he’d better piss off then, manager runs the team his way, he probably asks for input from players about their thoughts sometimes but the player plays and does what he’s asked to do by the manager in a game.

If you’re a 5’8″ goalpoacher and your Club offers you a contract and then plays you as a target man for long balls all season you’d want to have known in advance wouldn’t you? Alright, that’s an extreme example, but I’m sure you take the point?

Not usually the manager that does contract negotiations though is it? He’s told the club who he wants to keep so it’s up to them now, best of luck.

During his open-top bus tour interview with Ollie Turner, Danny Whitehall alluded to on field position and style of play sometimes being a factor in negotiations. So what if some sort of scenario arose where a player was offered something but didn’t want to accept due to those things? Yes, no doubt it’ll be down to Ian and George to sort the money and terms side of the contracts, but you’d expect Butler’s input as part of the bigger picture.

Butler’s getting married soon (I think it might be this coming weekend, or the weekend after), so you’d reasonably expect he’ll be away for a couple of weeks on honeymoon. We might not see any action for a while, re player negotiations…

Footage I’ve seen of the Sunday night event looked decent – a lot more people there than on the other two days. That was good to see.

My hope is Zanetti’s paid stadium hire well in advance of the event.

Same here – and you’d hope those at the helm of the Club are sharp enough to have insisted on it!

I’ve really liked Rowley so far, rarely gives the ball away, puts his foot in and can drive forward with the ball. Just needs to add a few more goals to his game, think he’s only got the one this season.

    He’s better than Scales.

Oh give it a rest ffs. The event is literally a couple of hours into its biggest night…why are you so obsessed Rene?

“Biggest night” could mean 650 people.

The model I suggested is pretty industry standard, so hopefully all good.

It is the standard, yes. Essentially venue hire by a promoter. I suggested pretty much the same thing in earlier threads – but we don’t actually know how agreements and contracts might have played out behind the scenes of this one, what with the Club taking its first step into gigs.

That wasn’t my point. I was asking if the Club will even get its money, and what will happen if the Club doesn’t get its money?

Like several other people I’ve spoken to about it, I was somewhat surprised by the scale of ambition bearing in mind the quality of the event – but for the Club’s sake I wanted it to be successful. I really hope the Club is protected contractually from financial damage.

Looks and sounds like a complete disaster in terms of crowd numbers, event logistics and (probably) finances. Anyone any clearer on who is picking up the tab for this folly – Zanetti or our Club?

Surely Zanetti’s paying stadium hire and the overheads and the club take the bar and percentage of sales?

You would hope that there is minimal financial risk for the Club and that the stadium is merely a ‘hired space’.

I heard Dirty Sterling were complaining about not being paid. Is that true?

They also only got to play a third of their allotted time.
