I cannot understand the logic of what Butler has done. Why send out Scales, Brogan and Howe on loan and replace them just with three bench players. Howe and Scales have often been good enough to start matches and perfectly good enough to play from the bench. Brogan has looked good too when he has come on as substitute snd has not been given a fair chance to prove himself. The balance of the team was right.
I think over the last few matches including Southend and yesterday versus Boston particularly, we have definitely lost our way and dont look to be playing any particular system. The organisation has gone. Without Roberts we are totally sunk. Man of the match yesterday and came off looking totally dejected.
Our midfield look non-existent and Howe, Brogan and Scales should be recalled. After the Horsham match Butler said the players he brought in should be good enough. If they were they would be playing full matches as he likes to rotate, but they arent, so he contradicts himself saying it.
How many strikers do we have who arent good enough to start matches. We’ve had Mark Beck. We still have Joey Dawson, Carlton, Smith, Hurst. and the young lad from Coventry, who i think shows good touches and future talent, but not good enough to start matches.
Is this not a waste of Club money, sending three players on loan and replacing them with three who arent good enough to start matches.
Can Butler sort this out? I’m not convinced. Our supporters are outstanding and have been all season,we are the 12th man, but if this isnt sorted quickly our gates will fall away.

6 goals may or may not be correct… I couldn’t be bothered to trawl through to check.
‘tinternet says 8-10 in all comps (SS – Silently Smirks)… is it 8, 9 or 10?1 user thanked author for this post.
February 15, 2026 at 11:53 am #3163516 in the league (from 15 starts), 10 if you include the cups (including the Mickey Mouse NL Cup).

February 15, 2026 at 1:29 pm #316357Sorry to anyone who disagrees but loaning Howe out was a mistake. I hope I’m proved wrong but based on what I’ve seen I can’t see Smith and Dausch getting 6 between them before the end of the season. It’s worrying that Howe asked to go on loan and even more worrying that Butler said ok. A squad capable of a playoff winning push would have all 3 of them in it.

February 15, 2026 at 1:50 pm #316358A mistake? Maybe, but as I understand the situation>-
Howe wanted to play/start every week
AB could not guarantee this (quite right too)
Howe asked to go on loan to play games
So what choice did the manager have?February 15, 2026 at 2:04 pm #316359Tell Howe he was needed for the rest of the season and that might mean coming off the bench if he couldn’t get a regular start.

February 15, 2026 at 2:30 pm #316363The Howe situation seems to me like it might have been downplayed by Butler to the media. I get the feeling there might have been a bust-up. Is that just me, or does anyone else get that vibe?
As an aside, I disagree about Scales. Good-hearted and all that, but woeful passing.

February 15, 2026 at 2:35 pm #316366February 15, 2026 at 3:40 pm #316372I definitely get that vibe about Howe it’s the only thing that makes any sense of the situation.
Butler hinted that it was Howe that forced through the move because he wanted guaranteed playing time and butler couldn’t offer him that so he went.
I can see him moving on if Butler is still here.

February 15, 2026 at 4:23 pm #316379I agree with Apollo11 and WonderGoals, that Butler fell out with Howe..the stare Butler gives fans when they criticise, tells me Butler has issues with others that do not like him.
But for me i would rather bring Dec Howe on than Carlton or even the new coventry striker who has no national league experience as Howe has..2 users thanked author for this post.
February 15, 2026 at 4:45 pm #316381Is it squares for rounds again ?
He knows best ?February 16, 2026 at 6:35 am #316400Maybe there is a wider discontent and Howe is just part of it.

February 16, 2026 at 12:14 pm #316402Over recent weeks we have seen players leave (Howe being the most prominent) and players come in Hurst , Dausch etc.. IMO AB has become a bit of a tinkerman playing players out of their natural positions henceforth the performances have been poor as results prove that (lucky to get 3pts against Southend).. it seems to me the team has lost its winning structure and focus ..lets revisit this after the next 3 fixtures as by then we may well be in a less comfortable place with regard to actually achieving a top 7 finish.
Ive always openly said i dont like AB as manager and a slight sense some of the players feel the same ..
Very non poor (except Smith)transfer window business and some strange choices but hey WE ARE SAFE from the drop and survival was the target for most including me.
imo simply not good enough for promotion this season and depending who stays or goes it may well be another survival season next year also.. too many round pegs in square holes as Sanfran posts as well as odd ins n outs

February 16, 2026 at 1:54 pm #316410Promotion honeymoon looks well and truly over last few games. Looks like a case of players punching above their weight and exceeding expectations before Christmas. Maybe recent performances are a truer indication of their level?

February 16, 2026 at 2:25 pm #316411Always judge players on their peak performances, it shows how good they can be. NL players will not be at their peak every week otherwise they’d be playing higher. One or two below par can be excused (just) but when that gets to five or six that looks like a problem. Could be players playing when not 100% fit, playing out of position or something more sinister (I hope not)
Managers job to sort it.2 users thanked author for this post.

You punch above your weight and capabalities as a team over a short stretch of games e.g ten, not 28. That’s no fluke, we’ve mixed it with the best in this league a number of times and played them off the park.

February 16, 2026 at 4:15 pm #316413With just one automatic spot and six clubs thrown into the mix via the heavily seeded playoff lottery it was always going to be a big ask get out of this division at the first time of asking.
Six or seven ex EFL clubs wanting to get back there and at least four are going to have to wait until next season.
Who knows, next year it may be three up. The cliche “it’s a marathon, not a sprint” seems particularly appropriate at the moment. And it looks like we may have hit “the wall”!
February 16, 2026 at 4:20 pm #316414You wonder if there is trouble in the camp, since the Howe fiasco, the so called number 1 keeper maison going out on loan.
The non performance against Horsham and then the shocker against Boston, not forgetting the lucky win against Southend plus the loss at Carlisle, mid field lacking again.
I say trouble because watching the Boston Hi lights, and i was at the game, a lot of players did not seem to be trying.
Not saying Boston did not deserve it, because they did..
Meaning the manager may have ‘ lost the dressing room ‘ which is not good as we are close to the play offs.
as others have said, AB the tinker man, witness Connor Smith getting shouted at By Cal Roberts for beimg in the wrong position.
Can only see a heavy defeat at Rochdale.
Is nobody saying Mahady not a great goalkeeper. especially at crosses..

I didn’t say it was a fluke. Have no idea how you’ve landed on 10 games instead of 28. Anyhow, just thoughts, wondering why the drop in performance levels.
