Time to drop him… surely, the midfield is a man short right now… he’s nowhere near the level which is unbelievable when you consider his first 10-15 league games.
I’m not even sure his last 4/5/6 performances get him a place on the bench.
Shame because he was becoming a bit of a cult hero but that’s a distant memory now1 user thanked author for this post.
February 22, 2026 at 3:32 am #316573I’ll be surprised if hasn’t got a move sorted out behind the scenes with his agent and his mind is elsewhere. I’d have dropped him and got Brogan back, who’s at least in form and will have a point to prove. Beestin would be an ideal step in replacement, but due to the fact we’ve signed such garbage, he has to play left wing despite us having 4 or 5 options for that position.
February 22, 2026 at 7:28 am #316574As AB is talks about objective met and we are staying up, he clearly has no focus on the play-offs.
He said, if it was game 45 we’d be happy with 60 points. Which the players pick up on and then he wonders why they aren’t trying! We might have pick up enough home wins against teams out of form but at this stage i don’t see us hanging onto tip 7. AB needs to look ahead to next season and get the players playing who will be here then. If that means recalling players then so be it. They might be below the level of Ewing, but they will put a shift in. Most players at this level are similar ability. We have Ewing (initially) Roberts, Horton, Westbrook, Smith (if he gets a run) above this level. The rest just need to work hard and be well managed.1 user thanked author for this post.
February 22, 2026 at 10:51 am #31657914 games to go and only 4 wins needed to get us in the playoffs, unless Halifax or Hartlepool change their form round dramatically we’re there so let’s not have I can’t see us in the playoffs malarkey, though it now begs the question why we didn’t put a full strength squad out in the fa trophy once having won a couple of rounds, would now seem the easier route to Wembley. (I wouldn’t have gone past the first game mind)
Butler just needs to play Ewing in the role where he was so effective for us, why does Butler try and reinvent the wheel with so many players and play them in roles that don’t suit especially when someone on the bench fits the role in the first place.
Round holes round pegs.
And back to basics.2 users thanked author for this post.
February 22, 2026 at 11:59 am #316583I don’t for one minute believe that professional footballers stop trying once “the objective has been met”!
Their form dips, sure, particularly when they’ve been playing out of their skin for two dozen games. Ewing needs some time out to regain his early season form but AB seems loathe to drop him.
Perhaps if Brogan and Scales were still in the building he”d have better cover in midfield.
Dawson out now. I just don’t get the deal with loans both in and out.

February 22, 2026 at 1:07 pm #316591“i don’t for one minute believe that professional footballers stop trying” well for some reason they are getting out run and out battled by teams. And AB is lost for a reason

February 22, 2026 at 1:09 pm #31659214 games to go and only 4 wins needed to get us in the playoffs – Wwhy assume we will win 4 more games? conceding for fun at the present.
February 22, 2026 at 1:12 pm #316593He needs to be very, very sure of his future – a potentially new club could very quickly lose interest.

February 22, 2026 at 1:52 pm #316599Funny how Altrincham forum still don’t allow Scunthorpe to be spelt without a couple of ** in there, thought that was long gone.
February 22, 2026 at 5:31 pm #316608Head turned by the mighty Oldham?
Is it just me but since incoming player announcement on 2.5 year deal the lads seem to have lost motivation.1 user thanked author for this post.

That seems plausible.
