I assume if we’re 6th we play all our games away from GP? If so that might not be a bad thing for two reasons
1) final home game of the season dig the monstrosity up and take all summer to develop the playing surfaces of old (we have the best turf in the country in local area)
2) our best performances (that I have seen) have been York (away) Borehamwood (away) Southend (away). We will get an excellent away following wherever we go and the pitch will be better and hopefully we can then play with a bit more width and freedom (I have noticed we have tended to go a bit narrow at times at home). I’m starting to prefer an away game.March 12, 2026 at 11:47 am #317422End of season on the 25th and the 6th place play their one and only home game on the 28th, 3 days ain’t going to make any difference to the viability of the pitch.
Best get 4th or 5th and a home game first, bearing in mind the midweek distances for our fans.March 12, 2026 at 11:57 am #317424If we finish 6th and win against 5th and also when 4th plays 7th then 7th win I assume we would play at home as being the higher placed team.
March 12, 2026 at 12:47 pm #317427I had a look at the play off matches and as others have said if we finish 4th, we play the team that finishes 7th, at Glanford Park but more importantly the winner plays the team that finishes 3rd, avoiding playing the 2nd place team ( Rochdale or York )
Obviously the table positions may change after the last game of the season.March 12, 2026 at 1:11 pm #317428No Alfred different route 4/7 and 5/6 winners go away to the 2/3 teams then the winners of those move on to Wembley.
March 12, 2026 at 1:16 pm #317429This pitch situation is puzzling me. Our pitch is terrible, we all agree on that, probably unique in the league in its condition. We play on it regularly, for the opposition it’s a one off. So why is it not proving to be the massive advantage that it should be? Have our players decided that they are such good footballers that they can’t possibly play on it?

The pitch may be looking a little rough but is certainly not as bad as some league clubs – Port Vale and Grimsby look far worse.
But let us not get ahead of ourselves we are not in the play-offs yet. Remember that season when disaster struck in div 1 ? When the morons raised concerns. Then look at what happened to Walsall last season.
March 12, 2026 at 2:29 pm #317432L’m not looking ahead, I’m looking behind.

March 12, 2026 at 3:11 pm #317434March 12, 2026 at 3:18 pm #317438If we continue our current ‘form’ then we could quite possibly get pipped at the post for a play off position.
It could end up really tight.I said basically this on another thread a week ago and was shot down for it.
March 12, 2026 at 3:22 pm #317440I’m predicting a 6th place finish. I think we’ll pick up enough to stay in playoffs. So if we’re 6th we play 5th away then 3rd away then Wembley?

You probably spotted it before anyone else?
It is a tad worrying. However, if we were promoted to L2… would we have the budget to survive?

March 12, 2026 at 3:29 pm #317442Ironawe. we need to be 4th or 7th as where we are now, 6th we play 5th place at their ground, but worryingly the winner plays 2nd place team in the play off semi final ( Rochdale or York away )
March 12, 2026 at 3:45 pm #317443Current form. Which are you using, since the new year 15pts from 12 games gets us in the playoffs.
Last 6 games 5 Pts gets you in the playoffs.
Halifax 18pts from 12 since new year.
Last 6 games 8 Pts.
Southend since new year 17pts from 11 games.
Last 6 games 8 Pts.
And don’t forget both teams have to overhaul us not just one. And they’ve got to play each other.
Enough said.March 12, 2026 at 6:23 pm #317445Based on current form, I would treat any play off place as a bonus. If we recover some of our pre-Christmas form, then great.
The bigger picture is that I don’t think the current ownership model is sustainable this level and certainly not in L2. Longer term interests may be better served by moving to a more sustainable model of ownership or operating, where we can afford to maintain running costs such as repairing the pitch, securing our training ground and re-establishing an academy. This isn’t intended to be negative or disrespectful to the current regime. It’s great they have taken us this far from our dalliance with extinction.
March 12, 2026 at 7:41 pm #317451Agreed but what is a more sustainable model whilst maintaining NL level at worst?
March 12, 2026 at 8:50 pm #317454If we are to make further progress, we need additional investors or (unpopular view I’m sure) different owners.
Agreed but what is a more sustainable model whilst maintaining NL level at worst?
March 12, 2026 at 9:01 pm #317455There is a lot being said about Lincoln City just now and how their American investors have helped put them virtually in the Championship. Good luck to them but it’s taken an awful lot of money and yearly loses to get them to their current position. Staying in the Championship will be the ultimate test for Lincoln’s investors and the next few seasons will be interesting to see how they do, we need more investment that is obvious if we are to move forward but I’m not sure where it’s coming from. We may be stuck at this level for awhile yet.
March 12, 2026 at 9:13 pm #317456Agreed. I hate to say it, but it may be a few more seasons before we are ready and able to return.
March 12, 2026 at 10:07 pm #317458They reckon the lowest wage bill in the championship is sheff Wednesday with £11.7 million.
March 13, 2026 at 9:33 am #317465Someone mentioned to me that York are being investigated about funding. Is that true? Any investment needs careful due diligence this time. Too much laundry going on in lower leagues.

Thank goodness we avoided becoming a launderette.

Indeed if we had it would not have been beautiful.
