Someone mentioned to me that York are being investigated about funding. Is that true? Any investment needs careful due diligence this time. Too much laundry going on in lower leagues.
Thank goodness we avoided becoming a launderette.
Just to build on the original point about the danger of the “we’re safe” messaging.
The last two games; Yeovil away and Sutton at home, actually highlight the issue quite well.
Starting with Yeovil.
Yes, we won 3-0, and you’ll take that every day away from home. But if we’re being honest, the score line flattered us a bit. Yeovil had plenty of the ball, created some decent moments, and on another day they probably score. The difference was simply that we were clinical when our chances came, whereas they weren’t.
That’s great in terms of efficiency, but it didn’t feel like a performance from a team completely on the front foot. It felt more like a team doing enough and relying on quality in key moments.
Then you look at Sutton at home, and the contrast becomes more obvious.
We looked flatter, slower, and far less intense. The urgency just wasn’t there in the same way. Sutton, who are still fighting for points, looked like the side with more desperation at times.
That’s where the messaging point comes in again.
When a team still has something clear to chase; promotion, playoffs, survival, the intensity is naturally higher. Every tackle matters, every second ball matters, every run matters.
But when the narrative around the club becomes “we’re safe now”, it’s very easy for that extra edge to disappear. Not consciously, players aren’t deliberately relaxing, but subconsciously the urgency just drops a notch.
The Yeovil game showed we still have the quality to win games even when not at our best.
The Sutton game showed what can happen when the intensity isn’t quite there.
And that’s why the messaging around the squad matters. In this league the margins are tiny, and if the collective mindset shifts even slightly from “we need to keep pushing” to “job done”, performances can drift.
Hopefully the Sutton result acts as a bit of a reset, because if we play with the same focus we showed earlier in the season, there’s still plenty left to aim for.
If you listen to the latest BBC Radio Humberside interview, it’s actually difficult to decipher what Butler’s messaging is. He appears to be trying to cover all bases.
The fans who criticise, Mr Butler clearly said should stay away from Glanford Park, so that is why the crowds are not as big.
I am sorry AB, but when Boston come and totally dominate us, a mid table team, we are not going to sit quietly, having paid over £20..
Butler goes back to the League 1 then championship days, with zero negativity. That is when we had a good team, a great defense, Butler thinks he is better than National League, but i can’t see him lasting in league football..Those may have been successful times, but I actually remember plenty of criticism and negative feedback still sometimes being aired. It wasn’t all happy-clappy.

If we continue our current ‘form’ then we could quite possibly get pipped at the post for a play off position.
It could end up really tight.I said basically this on another thread a week ago and was shot down for it.

Better than Shep!!!!! You must be a youngster.
Hardly.
I just think Ollie Turner is better than we’ve ever had – a decent commentator, clearly does his homework, and after a match is not afraid to ask potentially very difficult questions.

Can’t beat Ollie and Torps mind. The real deal.
The best ever Scunthorpe commentator on RH, imho. Pairing with Adkins for the Yeovil match was fantastic.
Flounce Iron.
Maybe just maybe the trust were busy stopping Swanny selling up the ground by applying a community asset to it, giving time for new owner to come in.
No other group than the trust was allowed to do it even though they had no money to buy the ground.
All very nice helping pay the players and it was a nice gesture by one and all, but without the ground we were no more.
Paying players in full during the furlough, while everyone else was on 60% of their wages cost the club dearly with the EFL loan Swanny took out, so let’s have the priorities right.
The trust did what was necessary at the time and we should be thankfully for that.I agree that we should be thankful.
Okay, even if we accept that your point (which I don’t btw), what about contributing to the costs of Ross Barrows’ post surgery rehabilitation as well as leading the support for the Iron Bru initiated fundraising at what was a parlous time in the club’s history? Others will be able remind us of past contributions, but it hasn’t all been in return for shares-for which the club still receives a tidy cash injection.
Agreed.
I don’t quite recall the Trust “leading the support for the Iron Bru initiated fundraising at what was a parlous time in the club’s history”, though. What I recall is Bru and Iron Hour teaming up to push it.
Take the latest on the Official web page, couple of pages on praise for the Irish irons £500 donation towards the pitch fund, did the trust get as much praise for their £13,000 share purchase.
Isn’t that a clear indication where the club is.Buying shares is not a donation, so to be fair to the club, why should they make a song and dance about it?
On recent form, which I expect to continue this weekend and perhaps longer, and projecting ahead a little, I have a sneaking feeling we might slip out of the play-off spots, with not quite enough games to claw our way back in. Anyone else starting to feel this way?
No it’s a business, if it was Michelle and co would have no problem with selling on as many shares as were wanted by anyone
For the last 18 months they have been selling shares to those who want them, including approx 13k worth to the Iron Trust.

Community institutions can’t be taken over by an individual, they produce business accounts because it’s a Business.
4 directors make all the decisions, and we have no say In the running of the club whatsoever. You have very narrow vision.
One thing is certain you cannot continually run a business by asking for hand outs from your customers or in our case fans.
It’s not a business, it’s a community institution that, by operational necessity, has to have an element of being run like a business… And supporters of a club our size have to realise that the price they ought to pay for being a supporter, to keep the club afloat and alive, is way more than the cost of tickets.
… since incoming player announcement on 2.5 year deal the lads seem to have lost motivation.
That seems plausible.
Shame because he was becoming a bit of a cult
He’s one letter change away in the above sentence from becoming something else>
A Celt?
You have to wonder whether there is much more to the Howe story than has been let on – and whether general morale / motivation has dipped due to that.

It’s a business. So fans give money with nothing coming back, Sharp and others put money in and want every penny back, which is there stated position at the moment, plus you were happy for it to be a business when it came to ticket prices especially when one of ours on here was as he saw it priced out of the box his family had for years.
No1 ok up to a point but as soon as they include Dave it’s wrong, plenty putting in a lot more than him all the volunteers for one.
No2 if the club can’t afford the running costs on the back of the gates there’s something seriously wrong, I mean they’re only running one team no ladies, academy, under 18s or schoolboy teams which most teams have even in lower divisions than ours. It’s not a business. It’s a community institution which has to have an element of being run as a business.
But if someone with a lot of money comes in then the existing directors (who I applaud and thank wholeheartedly for everything) will add up what they’ve put in and hope to get a return on it. Suddenly it will fully be a business again …..
So enjoy it not being like that while it lasts? Do your bit, etc.
Is Aldershot ABs Marine game, that allegedly he was close to the sack if he lost that
It’d be ridiculous to get rid of Butler at this stage. We’ve vastly exceeded expectations for the season and are just on a poor run at the moment – in fact, we have one every season. It’ll come right soon enough, Hopefully from Tuesday, but that’s doubtful.

The Howe situation seems to me like it might have been downplayed by Butler to the media. I get the feeling there might have been a bust-up. Is that just me, or does anyone else get that vibe?
As an aside, I disagree about Scales. Good-hearted and all that, but woeful passing.

I should add, I applaud the sentiment but I don’t particularly like the set-up of this Pounds For The Pitch thing as it stands.
SUFC is a business and IMO has had more than enough charitable assistance over the last few years
It’s not a business, though, is it? It’s a longstanding community / social institution that, by necessity, has to have an element of being run as a business to function day to day / stay alive longer term.
If it IS only a business then you / we are merely customers – and I don’t think you or many others would really consider themselves that. In fact, I’d wager most would be insulted by that.
In my opinion, we all have some responsibility and we all have to accept the blurred lines a bit. It’s not “charity” as that suggests a slight disconnection from the club. It’s ‘what it takes to keep it going’ sometimes, and when it’s those times we all have to put in a little bit more than just simple purchases (tickets) if we can. Not necessarily money, but (for instance) the volunteering.
Truthfully, I’m not too concerned by the result today, disappointing as the performance was. You show me a side that doesn’t get properly turned over a couple of times a season. Could be a very valuable ‘lesson’ – a bit of a wake-up call at just the right time. Let’s see how they go, how much fight they’ve got, against Rochdale on Tuesday.

Denton has been off it for weeks. Starbuck has joined him. Evans was run ragged today.
Rub of the green and refereeing decisions and that’s a 4-2 win for us, imho.

Always found him a really decent fella in my few dealings with him, level-headed.
