Club fundraising

I notice that the club’s VPs held a ball last night and are organising a golf day next month. Both events appear to be aimed at raising funds for the club rather than for charitable causes.

I know we have to be inventive in generating revenue, but this seems a bit desperate for a professional football club? It may be that is partly about nurturing relationships with local businesses to maximise sponsorships and woo potential investors.

Do you ever stop moaning drums and all people will have a good time at both these events and raise a few quid how is bothering you.

I don’t mind this sort of thing at all, it’s better than the begging bowl and among other things exactly what they should do

Have to agree with Xxx and fans (yep, another first).

It’s not bothering anyone and if it was another club doing it there’d be posters on here saying “look what so and so are doing, we should be doing the same”.

Certainly better than the chav-fest of last summer.

I am not saying it is bothering anyone and maybe I am casting an unnecessarily critical eye over these events. I assumed (perhaps naively) that the golf day was a charity event. This may be the sort of activity that makes us sustainable and reflects where we are financially. My fear is if it isn’t running alongside a longer term plan to secure the level of investment needed to get us back in the EFL.

Glyn would try to sponsor a dog turd in the car park .. this latest sponsor a transfer is just a piss take.

As mentioned i dont see any harm in these presidents balls etc lets put on a fancy frock n dikky bow no problem so long as its not coming out of the playing fund or even the UG fund raising pot… maybe even make bob or two

Its way better than the direct begging bowl thats been rolled out all to often.

Surely Positive Dave as to be that person.
Arm round the incoming player with that thumb in the air photo, so he can show it to his family that means more to him than any football club. Or is that the Carlsberg advert.

If you all recall this was discussed quite a bit when WHAM was running away and leaving us in the brown stuff, in fact several posters highlighted the fact that even though a rescue package was being formed with Michelle and her fellow board members the future years ahead would most likely be spent in non league due to lack of major finance. If the playing budget isn’t bigger by a reasonable amount than last season’s £900,000 then I think we know what will be happening next season and it’s probably going to be consolidation in the National League, such is life.

I am under no illusion about expectations for next season. But I suspect many among our fanbase will be looking for a repeat of last season-if not better. Do we need a more unvarnished picture of our finances from the owners alongside a long term plan for progression?

Of course I’ll be expecting better, a top 3 finish after the consolidation of last season, and maybe hitting form at the end of season instead of losing it from February onwards.
If the board start to fund a mediocre budget they’ll end up with a mediocre crowd, if success on the pitch isn’t forthcoming.

Whilst we are all waiting with baited breath for the Poz Dave SORRY i mean SUFC announcement of a raft of high quality signings the current situation tends to mean we are heading for a tough season.. so much hangs on who we can get in over the coming month or so.

I am of the opinion finishing anywhere from 7th to 20th is on the cards ..so flirting with both the playoffs and relegation may well happen during the course of the coming season.

See Barrow are the first ones out of the blocks to say they aren’t entering the national league cup competition, going to concentrate on the league and the normal cup competition’s.
Eastleigh aren’t either though they didn’t last year either, their take on it is like most fans not needed, and you really need a bigger squad to cope with it, and the income being no great strokes.
Though not actually fundraising it could be prudent not to enter and run with a smaller squad knowing full well the loan market is there for 90% of the season.
For what Butler got out of it last season and it can’t have been a lot other than knowing from the first game in the main his squad players weren’t good enough and entering made them no better for it.

I hope Butler is planning to at least try to not carry 5 or 6 passengers in his squad for this season so probably sees the games as having some value. If he achieves a near full squad of genuine National League level players on his budget then he’s a better manager than I thought.

The other potential benefit is we get to further build relationships with our local(ish) Premiership neighbours and get a close up look at potential loanees.

Those that don’t like the competition don’t have to watch it.

To my mind, we won’t be close to achieving sustainability until we have a development set up and start producing a player or two every season to fit into the squad. These should be our “benchwarmers” rather than loanees or players plucked from trials. I view the club as struggling financially until it can start to do this. Thus whatever it takes ( providing it’s moral and not illegal) to fund the club is OK by me!

I agree with this, though what is moral is highly subjective.

it’s quite incredible that any supporters would mock the clubs ambition to increase its commercial revenue. In the latest set of accounts, we still lost £700k and have over £2m negative assets. We still fit into the category of a club in financial distress. There are three ways out of this:
decrease costs
increase revenue
having ownership who are willing to fund a loss making football club

Boreham Wood have been breaking even for a few years and still have a decent team so encourage the club rather than constantly criticise

what the club needs is stability

I’ll encourage the club to concentrate on the higher end fundraising £13,000 for one nights toffs do ain’t to be sniffed at.
All the tuther begging shite should be well left alone by the club and makes the club look embarrassing, thegofundme page only raised £315 from individuals, twould be nice of the organisers club,unity group, PD to let us know the final total and then close it down.
Nice to know that at least one persons got on board with the signings sponsor that’s you I take HLC.
Me I hope they don’t get one and keep us all in the dark on signings till August the 8th lol.
