Don’t think it should be about putting them in the shade, they do good for what they do, if they just don’t try and over egg everything, it would seem good imo.
June 9, 2026 at 4:53 pm #321722Well a certain person has got an award from Scunthorpe’s MP, I didn’t know Winterton was part of the same constituency.

What’s the award and I presume you are referring to SM?

An award for the MP’s volunteers week.
June 10, 2026 at 4:56 pm #321769Actually CMC Winterton is now part of the Scunthorpe constituency since the last election, I believe Dakin has expressed he is an Iron follower but how many games he actually attends is another matter, so I’m guessing the link between him and said fan is there.
June 10, 2026 at 7:31 pm #321775Good for the VP group, raised nearly as much as the Iron Trust.
A couple of the ladies in the promo picture didn’t look happy though! Apparently they had just heard the next fundraiser is the opportunity to have a photograph sandwiched between SM and PD.
June 10, 2026 at 7:46 pm #321777For what Butler got out of it last season and it can’t have been a lot other than knowing from the first game in the main his squad players weren’t good enough and entering made them no better for it.
We got a developing relationship with Leeds United and, from that, Rory Mahady on loan.
We also got a potential goal of the season from Declan Howe and a really well-worked goal from Mark Beck (both in the Middlesboro U21s game).

As i said, News to me, i thought they might have been put with Brigg or Barton.
June 10, 2026 at 8:55 pm #321783And that’s led to a pre season friendly game with Leeds I take, being best buddies and all.
June 16, 2026 at 1:42 pm #321975I see Glyn ‘sponsor player toe nails clippings’ Sparks is fishing for more sponsorship ..this time for the clubs golf day.
Does this guy ever had a day off ?
Does he wake up having dreamt up another plan ?
Is there anything left to sponsor ?June 16, 2026 at 3:10 pm #321976Not very inventive. All he’s basically doing in looking for people to sponsor everything. Is this the kind of creative mindset we really need for alternative revenue streams ?
June 16, 2026 at 3:40 pm #321977Whatever your position on these activities, here’s another fundraising opportunity/annoyance.*

June 16, 2026 at 3:48 pm #321978I’m struggling to understand some of the outrage around the club’s fundraising initiatives.
The reality is that Scunthorpe United are still rebuilding after one of the most turbulent and damaging periods in the club’s history. We nearly lost the club altogether. We dropped out of the Football League, ownership issues dragged on for years, revenues collapsed, and a huge amount of trust had to be rebuilt with supporters, sponsors and the wider community. None of that disappears overnight simply because we’ve had a promotion and things are looking more positive on the pitch.
Unlike some clubs at this level, we don’t have a millionaire benefactor writing cheques every month to cover the losses. Football clubs outside the EFL are notoriously difficult to run at a profit, and even clubs attracting crowds like ours still face significant financial pressures. Matchday income alone rarely covers the full cost of running a football club, especially one with our infrastructure, staffing requirements and ambitions. Previous statements from the club have made it clear that football revenues alone don’t necessarily bridge the gap between income and expenditure.
I actually see the fundraising efforts as a positive sign rather than a negative one. At least the club are being proactive. The alternative is either cutting budgets, reducing investment in the playing side, scaling back operations, or relying on a single individual to bankroll everything. We’ve all seen where that can lead when circumstances change.
Nobody is forcing supporters to take part. If a particular initiative isn’t for you, don’t contribute. But there are plenty of fans who want to put a little extra into the club and feel involved in helping it progress. That’s been part of football culture for decades. Supporters buy lottery tickets, attend fundraising events, sponsor players, purchase merchandise and donate to club causes because they want to contribute something beyond the price of a season ticket.
The bigger picture for me is this: where do we want the club to be in three to five years? If we want to establish ourselves in the National League, challenge towards the top end of the division and eventually push for a return to the EFL, that requires investment. Every additional revenue stream helps. Every sponsorship deal helps. Every fundraising initiative helps. No single scheme is going to transform the club’s finances, but collectively they can make a meaningful difference.
Of course, supporters are entitled to ask questions about where money is going and how fundraising fits into the wider strategy. Transparency is important. But I don’t think the answer is to criticise every attempt to generate additional income.
For years we complained about poor ownership, lack of planning and financial instability. Now we have a club actively trying to create revenue streams and improve its position. That seems like something worth supporting rather than attacking.
I’d be far more worried if the club *wasn’t* looking for ways to strengthen its finances.

June 16, 2026 at 4:06 pm #321979This may be sufficient to sustain us in the NL if enough fans accept that promotion isn’t a realistic ambition in the short to medium term. The fans’ response will determine whether or
not we can maintain average attendances of 4k+. Personally, I very much doubt it. (Hope I’m wrong). If we are to return to the EFL, this kind of approach to maximising revenue needs to run alongside a longer term plan to secure the additional level of investment required. That will have to be in the form of an additional Director or new owner with deeper pockets.

June 16, 2026 at 4:16 pm #321980The real challenge is growing commercial revenue, attracting investment, increasing sponsorship and making the club financially self-sufficient. Fundraising has its place, but long-term success comes from building a club that can stand on its own two feet.
Survival was the first objective. Thriving has to be the next one.

June 16, 2026 at 4:22 pm #321981Agree with most recent posts on the subject.
Not very inventive. All he’s basically doing in looking for people to sponsor everything. Is this the kind of creative mindset we really need for alternative revenue streams ?
WGs .. not sure what else there is left to do re alternative revenue streams but this constantly chasing sponsorship is just over kill and whilst its harmless for those not interested it may well irritate some fans when its occurring so often and the reason to sponsor becomes more obscure which was the main point of my earlier post.
Scunny will be treading water in the NL for many a year without more investment however it arrives ..preferably a new owner with loads of spare cash to chuck away.
June 16, 2026 at 5:52 pm #321984Thank you SODIron. At last a person with some brain cells to put a sensible response together

June 16, 2026 at 8:14 pm #321987“I’m struggling to understand some of the outrage”
I wouldn’t call it outrage, it’s more annoying than anything. I get that gathering sponsors is a way for the club to increase funds, but every other day they are seeking sponsors.
It’s getting a little silly and repetitive now.
We’ll be collecting the rain water on the pitch this coming season and sell it off in shot glassess next.

Not seeing any outrage just fans commenting on how the club seem to have this blanket coverage re sponsorship which does drift into over kill territory at times.
Any funds coming into the club are desperately needed and how ever and who ever they arrive from doesnt bother me (unless a criminal entity) …
Any light hearted tongue in cheek ideas on Mr Sparks next sponsorship gig ???
Put your company name on the back of the bog door thus showcasing your products to ….
June 17, 2026 at 9:49 am #322011Maybe Sodiron can see why there’s a lot of questioning over the clubs fundraising initiatives with the new signings sponsors previous, not just them though is it it’s the other things they promote to fans, worst one being imo the health screening where the clinics used are all in the London area and comes at a cost for a seventy year old £75 a month, it’s alright saying no ones forcing fans to participate it’s just the desperate look the club are giving out.
June 17, 2026 at 12:32 pm #322016It’s desperate if you’re looking for it to be desperate. I suspect most non Iron fans, companies and potential investors couldn’t care less about it. If you want a bigger stake in how the club portrays itself, find some money and stick it in.

June 17, 2026 at 3:31 pm #322024Got to laugh the club only want to take on another sales executive to sell yet more sponsorship deals.
And there was me thinking we had no money (well from what most posters tell us on here) seems we’ve loadsa money to bring in non playing staff.2 users thanked author for this post.
June 17, 2026 at 4:15 pm #322025Stupid post, the club needs the capacity to sell itself and process the sales .For that you need sales staff. You seem to want your entertainment for free while not wanting the club to bring in other revenue .
Are you a bit thick?1 user thanked author for this post.

And there was me thinking we had no money (well from what most posters tell us on here) seems we’ve loadsa money to bring in non playing staff.Having just seen the ad for a club sales EXC i was thinking similarly AWG .. for a business that is so skint it needs constant outside fundraising and with failure or success solely based on performances on the pitch is it absolutely necessary for extra non playing staff …lets get the squad sorted first

June 17, 2026 at 4:29 pm #322027Not as thick as you obviously that goes without saying lollypop man, Come on surely the club has got enough non playing staff in already.
You and the like are keen enough to remind us that we’re only a National league club with the limitations that brings the club or so you say when it suits anyway.June 17, 2026 at 4:34 pm #322028If a business wants to be a club sponsor in any way it’s good for the club. I don’t understand why anyone wants to criticise different ways of creating sponsorship. Surely the sponsors feel there is a benefit to them and the club. No one is forced to sponsor.

June 17, 2026 at 4:53 pm #322030Maybe you were spotted as a schools crossing person 64, hence the lollipop remark?
June 17, 2026 at 4:56 pm #322032Oh Ok, but as I’ve never done that it cannot be so . Those people have way too much patience
