An U21 who’s not yet played for Hull’s first team.
Give the kid a chance… blah blah blah
3 goals from 37 appearances for University College Dublin.
3 goals from 6 appearances for Hull’s U21s.
0 goals from 13 appearances for Carlisle.
Is that the best we can do?
“Get off his back Rene!” – “Give the kid a chance!” – “wish him well !”
I’ll stick my neck out and call it as I see it – the new Beck.
Beck to the Future?
I never saw Beck play before he joined us – didn’t need to… stats don’t lie.
I hope I’m wrong. Hopefully you can all ridicule me at seasons end. I just want ‘better’ for our club.
Let’s see how it pans out!
His stats:
The last 9 of his 13 appearances for Carlisle last season.
Ok, a lot of these were “game management” minutes – disrupting the tempo of a game late on.Good luck to the lad. I do wish him well.
But, we need better quality than this to get out of this league in a positive direction. If he was a shaker & a mover… then he would have already played for their first team.
Not for me.
August 5, 2026 at 6:30 pm #324067I understand where you are coming from Rene, and he probably won’t be the best signing AB’s made this summer, but if having him in the building makes Danny Whitehall believe that his place is not a given, then those moments in a game when he just can’t be arsed may well become fewer. If he scores zero goals in his time here with us, but DW gets 27 I’ll be happy!

If the Chesterfield match is anything to go by, three or four minutes of it aside, DW is looking like having a quiet season ahead.
August 5, 2026 at 8:23 pm #324079I think financially we fil squad numbers once initial targets are achieved

August 6, 2026 at 7:28 am #324088I have trust in him to deliver a decent account of the squad at his disposal. Wouldn’t go further than that regarding positivity but I’m loathed to advocate the self defeating manager merry go round the club were on before him. Unless it looks absolutely necessary to make a change at some stage.

August 6, 2026 at 9:44 am #324095Has this lad actually signed for us. Doesn’t seem to be any info on club news or is it just because I refuse to pay extra for insider info.
August 6, 2026 at 10:05 am #324096Not got it over the line with Hull yet. Must be bloody good he’s kept that last squad place open for him for a full month now.
Don’t get it myself, why no show in the friendlies, has he even been training with us.August 6, 2026 at 10:24 am #324097It was reported that he’d signed a few weeks ago but apparently the delay was due to injury. “He’ll be with us on Monday” said AB in Humberside interview.
August 6, 2026 at 10:42 am #324098Must be really encouraging for a young footballer to be trashed by your potential loan clubs fans before anyone has even seen the fellah.
From what I can gather from Butler’s various snippets to Humberside the loan was discussed and verbally agreed early in preseason. Hull actually briefly announced the loan then it became apparent the lad was injured. Announcement was hastily taken down.
Absolutely no point in going ahead with the loan as his treatment would be Hull’s responsibility anyway. I think I read somewhere he went to Turkey with Hull but don’t know if he got any training in.
He is now fit so Butler suggesting the deal will be sorted Monday.Must have something for a (then) championship club to bring him over from Ireland and for one of the National League moneybags outfits to take him on loan.
At least let’s see him get properly fit and play a couple of games before giving him the banjo treatment FFS.
We have had a few gems with Irish connections over the years.

August 6, 2026 at 10:43 am #324099Thanks. Don’t bother much with Humberside these days and Telegraph a joke. Only convinced of signings when I see photos in Scunny shirts and scarves
Looking forward to watching Salah play for usAugust 6, 2026 at 10:55 am #324100Must be really encouraging for a young footballer to be trashed by your potential loan clubs fans before anyone has even seen the fellah.
Not “fans” MK (yet) just one fan, clearly peeved that another striker might push a certain other striker down the pecking order.

August 6, 2026 at 11:17 am #324101Well that was easily done last season, even though Rene’s love child had made a good start, brought Dauch in as a replacement at the time and did f all.
Doubt he’d be here now if Farrell hadn’t been recalled,Butler’s interviews at the time certainly didn’t have Dec in his plans right up to the moment Butler did recall him.
Rene has a right to be peeved with Butler’s actions last season indeed many fans were peeved at his loan move to Altrincham.1 user thanked author for this post.
August 6, 2026 at 11:23 am #324102I do not want to belittle any young lad – and I shan’t.
AB thinks the lad has ‘something’ – fine let’s, hopefully, give him a chance.
If he is not a scorer – which the stats do seem to indicate – it may well be that AB wants to experiment in some way.
Dunno.
As always though – time will tell.1 user thanked author for this post.
August 6, 2026 at 11:41 am #324103He got the winning goal assist in Carlisle’s 3-2 win over us.
Let’s wish him well, shouldn’t be to long for him to impress first Nl cup game against Stoke on the 18th.1 user thanked author for this post.
August 6, 2026 at 11:52 am #324105Absolutely give the young lad a chance, why would you wish any other. Welcome young man and the very best of luck playing for us.

August 6, 2026 at 11:55 am #324107August 6, 2026 at 12:35 pm #324109Not many Steve Torpeys about, decent scoring record and assists. John Gayle didn’t score many but a couple of lads that played alongside him reaped major benefits from his presence.
That front line (Gayle, Eyre and Forrester) was exceptional. Gayle’s importance is often overlooked when people look back to that season, though.
