No player is irreplaceable and we should be looking to improve our squad depth and quality. The issue is not such much his rumoured departure to an another NL team as what it signals. Our player budget will likely not enable the signing of players of the quality of Ewing or Westbrooke, and certainly not Roberts. The net result is a weaker squad. We will see.

No. Some whisper on X. But no source cited. Hope it’s nonsense, obviously. If true, we are miles off being able to assemble a squad capable of promotion. Players of the necessary quality simply won’t come on the wages and contracts we appear to be offering. As I say, let’s pray any rumour has no foundation.
Just add milk and alcohol.
Lee Collinson? Should bring a Feelgood factor, even if from the grave!

I think he is mostly ignored, but that latest post triggered a few, including me.
It’s an old phrase but are we just “hating the player” here?
PD really does have main character syndrome doesn’t he? It’s jarring and very unusual in someone of his generation. He makes this horrible situation for KK (a hero to many of us) about him.
Previously worked at Barrow, Fleetwood, Morecambe, PNE and Chorley.

Some of us will keep going at whatever we play and regardless of the quality of the football. My worry is that once reality dawns and we are, say, mid-table NL, the average gate drops to 3000. That makes sustainability even harder. Personally, I won’t be satisfied until we are back in the EFL. If that takes one year or five, I can live with that if we can see a clear plan. I’m not sure we have that at the moment and we are still in rescue mode.

Hasn’t the club said the increase is to cover additional operating costs?
And the price increases should enable that.
I’ll return to a previous theme. While I am grateful for what the current ownership has done, and continues do, for us, the model won’t enable us to get back to the EFL. It points to play offs being an overachievement this year. I would be amazed if we repeat it next season.

Is he a “young manager”? I would have thought he’s average age.
Bit early yet, the season finished 2 wks earlier than last season, don’t think we signed anyone till the 9th of June.
This time last season Butler had only announced the retained list, and this year though I’m sure he working on it can be forgiven his wife just had their first child so his mind will not be totally on the team as yet.
Don’t get me wrong his family planning was not the best being a football manager, but he’s only a young manager and a lot to learn. Lol.
Not like us 14yr old team managers who had the sense to not get married until the season was finished, wifey wanted the 3rd of may but that was cup final day (when the cup meant something) so the 10th it was, not an hard thing to arrange.
Butler knows best.Denton, captain and Rowley, Vice Captain.
Such a waste of talent.

On the face of it, this looks like a very positive approach. Does anyone know what level of work it represents based on the “Pounds for Pitches” fundraiser?
I have no issue with price rises, but I didn’t quite understand the logic and timing of the match categories.
I meant a previous announcement saying something along the lines of:
“After an extensive search we are delighted to announce that Didier Divet is joining The Iron as……. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in grounds management from his previous roles at Garthorpe Canaries, Crowle Colts, Racing Clamart and Fulchester United. Didier gained an Advanced Diploma in Pitch Perfect Studies under the supervision of Lorne Greene at the world famous East Butterwick Academy of Grass Growth.”
You get my drift.
That statement pretty much says so!

Have we announced the appointment?
Got one!!
“Scunthorpe United is now recruiting for a First Team Grounds Person, offering an exciting opportunity to play a vital role within the First Team Grounds Department at the Attis Arena. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the newly appointed First Team Grounds Manager and assist in the maintenance and development of the club’s first team playing surfaces, helping to ensure pitches are prepared to the highest possible standard all year round.”Fair play to you. I wouldn’t be critical of anyone volunteering, but it’s good to know your experience was positive and you felt appreciated.
I personally have volunteered for the club this season and it’s been a fantastic experience. I’ve met new people, felt appreciated by the club and board members have gone out of their way to personally thank me when the have noticed me helping. When the club was struggling, I didn’t have the opportunity to have an influence but I’m grateful for some of the people who quietly went about their business and helped the club using their skills. I see my volunteering as an opportunity and privilege to quietly help out now.
I see lots of constructive views on here, but this is a Bru forum and views expressed vary, and should not be conflated with those of us the Trust or moderators on here. (I’m not one btw).I note that you don’t answer my questions.
I know you wont share my views not that bothers me but come on lets have some constructive views instead of what’s happening now.
I note the Cods have advertised for a Senior Head Groundsperson today. They actually specify a salary range. I wonder how it compares with what we are offering?
Still the position remains unfilled with a new Ad posted today, has there even been any applicants ?? or is it a poison chalice , poor salary or ?????
An interesting take and not one I share. So, what specifically do you think the Trust should do that it doesn’t currently? And what do you think the club could do to improve engagement with the Trust?
They dont seam to be doing a lot for the fans. They just complain how bad the club is run and slag off others who at least try. Then say how much money they have invested.lfyou ask me they should get off there arses and do a bit
Oh nobody likes them at the club try a different approach or different personal representing them because it aint working with people running it is it?
I think it’s fine to seek and secure labour, materials and funds from fans during particularly difficult times, but it isn’t sustainable long term. Sponsorship is different of course as is contributing to gain a collective say in the running of the club in a fan owned model.
Agreed. If we are not sustainable we need a different model.
The need for a reliable extra income stream becomes more obvious with every volunteer request by the club, our current board have done a great job with the limited funds they possess.

I don’t disagree. Charities and many public services could not function without volunteers. It’s also great citizenship. (These are not businesses).
Seeking and using them in privately owned organisations is a different matter imo. The worst examples are those profit making businesses that use unpaid interns and work experience students as substitute labour. I am not putting the club in this category btw.

As I posted earlier, I understood the work was being done by Premier Turfing.

That’s a specious argument, given that we seem to be seeking help from small businesses most adversely impacted by those measures. I think it’s fine for grass roots and fan owned clubs, but doesn’t feel right for a professional and privately run club.
Let’s hope that those coming forward get free advertising in return. I don’t think we have sponsors for the paper towels and bog rolls.

If we have secured a grant, that would be great news. Where has this been announced?
Hang on haven’t we secured a £750,000 efl grant for pitch improvements? If we can’t come up with something decent after that investment we are totally clueless when it comes to getting a decent surface in place for August
Looks like we have engaged Premier Turfing, who seem to be an experienced and reputable outfielder. I assume we didn’t use them last year?
I believe work started today. No update from the club (I have asked), though there has been another plug for the pitch squares fundraiser.
Bruers will be keen to hear that the club is “looking for short stories — no longer than one A4 page — starring the legendary Scunny Bunny and Hunny Bunny.”
Top stat work.
Apparently the first ever player to score a Football League hat trick in his teens, 20s, 30s and 40s.
Never did it for us though, despite 11 braces.
I don’t want to sound or be ungrateful to the current owners. They are fans and that goes a long way. We have also achieved a lot during their tenure. If, however, we are to match or get near the budget of others and back into the EPL , we need additional investment in the form of a fifth Director with deep pockets. Alternatively, we need sell to new owners with deeper pockets. This is the harsh reality if we are to progress. As things stand, it is not clear that the current model is sustainable. The alternative may be to settle for NL football for the foreseeable future with the occasional tilt at the play offs.
