To be fair Barrows has come on at CB in the last two games and we haven’t conceded whilst he’s been on the pitch.

When our local Rugby Union club, Tynedale were in National League 1 they had to travel to Jersey. A round trip of over 1,000 miles!
But yes, safe journey to those who are travelling.

March 16, 2026 at 10:04 am in reply to: Abibliophobia On The Pros & Cons Of Promotion – Do You Want Promotion? #317585If it is York and Rochdale that go up then Carlisle with their 10,000 gates and huge catchment area will stay down.
Or
Boreham Wood with their sub 1,000 gates could win the playoffs.
Funny old game!

March 15, 2026 at 10:59 am in reply to: Abibliophobia On The Pros & Cons Of Promotion – Do You Want Promotion? #317563In the mid to late 70s we survived in what is now L2 with some of the poorest squads in our history.
Yes, yes, that was fifty years ago and things have changed for sure, but it can done.
Brackley who pipped us for the title last season could well be heading straight back whilst we could finish in the playoffs.
Agree with what Awaywego says but squad building is not easy. Gateshead v Sutton yesterday. Two clubs who looked dead and buried starting to pick up points. Both scorers in their 1-1 draw were forwards we had on trial pre-season but were deemed not good enough.
Who’d be a manager eh?
Err, that’s when it’s scheduled to kickoff.
Well it won’t be you or I Deerey!

What’s a bank note?
I’ve forgotten about them already.
What’s Lee Turnbull doing these days?

Not Boycie’s fault. Injuries mean Butler has no option other than to play him.

Hurst is here on loan and should probably return to Donny.
Squad looking unbalanced once again. How often have we said that?

Ah, the old “can you afford to drop your leading scorer” conundrum!

On the plus side we’re mathematically safe from relegation!
My Chester mate has just messaged me re: Jones.
Said definitely their best player this season and no way they would have kept him.
Bit of a bolt out of the blue (no pun intended).

March 8, 2026 at 4:00 pm in reply to: Howe Can We Not Integrate A Proven Goalscorer In To Our Team? #317233Also AB makes a valid point about Howe taking points off other teams.
Aye, we don’t want Truro leapfrogging us!

“ Whitehall was worrying me after his first half yellow. I’d have been tempted to take him off sooner rather than going down to 10 but he cut out the shithousery second half.”
Danny was lucky to be on the pitch to “win” the penalty never mind take it.
Many refs would have given him a second yellow card for his simulation. The fact it was out by the touch line and not in the area probably saved him.
Went to their place and absolutely mugged them!
Something teams have done to us on many occasions!
I was at every game in that cup run.
Remember being behind the goal, but as many grounds were unsegregated in those days I don’t recall anything unusual.
Both sets of fans would have been sporting red and white scarves, so I guess most were none the wiser.
I think we were in all blue that day.

Ah! A manager’s contract.
Worth the paper it’s written on?

As Bhuna says, third spot is still achievable so this in itself should be enough motivation.
I don’t think the comings and goings on the squad front has done us any favours. Are EFL loanees coming into a “safe” club under pressure to shine or merely here to give them game time? Then we have players who were part of the rip-roaring start to the season out at other clubs.
I was talking with my mate who is a Chester supporter. Let’s face it, that NLN Playoff Final could just have easily gone their way. It didn’t of course and instead of pushing on again this season they’ve been a very average mid-table side. Manager Callum McIntyre was told mid season that his contract wouldn’t be renewed in the summer. What motivation is there for both team and manager now?
So Butler must remember it’s not just about raising standards, it’s also about maintaining them.
If all games kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday no one would get revved up.
TV money more important obviously.
Beware the Ides of March!
Whilst we’re on passing again, what was Barrows success rate yesterday? 1 from 30 or so aimless punts down the right touchline. Sorry to pick on Ross, passing was abysmal overall, but he was the one that seemed to stand out as they were all so similar.
Back in the days of your avatar my mates and I used to call Graham Foxton “Ron Obvious” (after a Python sketch), because whenever he received the ball he would most likely punt it upfield in the general direction of Kerr or Keegan.
What goes around comes around eh?
Re: late substitutions.
“Generally30 seconds is added to stoppage time for each individual substitution made during a football match, according to BBC Sport and RefChat. If multiple substitutions occur during the same stoppage, it is counted as one opportunity, although the referee may add extra time if the process takes longer, notes TheFA.com.
Standard Rule: 30 seconds per substitution.
Contextual Time: If a player takes too long to leave the pitch, the referee can add more time.
Multiple Substitutions: Multiple substitutions by a team during the same stoppage count as one, but the referee will account for the total time lost.”
So basically, the more substitutions you make the more time you give the opposition to score.
Conversely it gives you more time to score too. But if you’re taking off your forwards and replacing them with defenders that would seem less likely”

But still a better option than Farage or Badenoch.
PS I think it’s Sir Keir.
Back in the good old days the moderates would leave Labour and set up their own centrist party (SDP anyone?).
The centre-left are looking almost like centre-right because there is a present no effective centrist party. What the hell has happened to the LibDems?
We need Bobby G to post on why they have gone into hiding.
Green Gorton!
Or was that Goblin?
Does his “fastest goal” record still stand?
What Andrew needs to concentrate on is coaching his players to pass to a teammate instead of blind flick-ons and hopeful punts upfield.
Really wasteful again last night.

Worse than their 9?
Stones gave him a lesson in both goal scoring and shithousery.
