If Butler sets up to match their 3-5-2 then we’re stuffed, they have the players for it and we don’t. Let them worry about our 4-3-3 instead and none of this 4-2-3-1 or a “box” MF in a 4-4-2 rubbish either. He could just get away with a 4-1-4-1 I suppose but the more times he switches during a game the more confused our players get.
One team in form the other struggling to score and finding it hard not to give goals away. Heart – Scunny of course, the head can’t agree sadly. Hoping for a good game with nothing controversial and a surprise result.
Don’t let a sub-standard soapy massage put you in a bad mood. Only sweetness and light on Bru after a defeat.
I’ve just read the Eastleigh version match report. they were obviously much better than I thought. However I’m not sure the reporter was actually there. here’s his big finish -“Unused substitutes: Mayday, Jones, Dawson”
You should buy a pitch square really you know.
We’ve played worse and won against better teams than Eastleigh who were pretty poor. Lucky for us as we’d have lost 4 or 5 nil.
Positives:-
Ewing almost back to best
Smith showing first signs of form
Passing better
No obvious injuries
Confirmation that several players should have no further involvement here.
Can’t be worse on Tuesday. (Can it?)Negatives:-
Toothlesss in attack
System change meant half the team didn’t know where they were playing. Shambles4 users thanked author for this post.
” Sharp has had more clubs then Fred Flinstone so not sure there is any real loyalty or love for Scunny over anyone of the others.”
Loyalty in football? As rare as rocking horse s**t! The days of Matt Le Tissier are long gone, kissing the current club’s badge is as loyal as most get.

Just read a linked article on Donny.
“McCann has already met with players he feels can bolster his ranks for next season and by the time Stevenage arrive at the Eco-Power Stadium, he will have spoken with chairman Terry Bramall and chief executive Gavin Baldwin about finalising the playing budget.”
Dare we hope that AB has done the same?
Realistically, with our squad, we can only make 2 or 3 changes before the team becomes weaker.

TBF Deerey the ‘Butler Out’ boys are few and far between. Sure he gets plenty of criticism. not many football managers don’t, but I can’t recall seeing many posts wanting him gone. It’s his attitude rather than performance that seems to upset some.
The ability to field a full strength side on Tuesday should be Butlers only aim. He’ll get more grief for failing to do that, unless we still win of course, then for anything he does on Saturday.
Post match Butler said substitution was precautionary and he’d be OK to train on Tuesday. Would expect to be kept in the dark until Tuesday’s team is announced.
Weakened team at Gateshead – unacceptable
Weakened team on Saturday – essentialDon’t agree with either of those claims. It wasn’t ‘unacceptable’ to field a weakened team at Gateshead. It was very poor too field a side with so many changes and not give travelling fans an idea this might be happening to save the time and expense going (though awaywego apparently only goes for the craic regardless so…), His excuse and doubling down was poor too.
It’s not ‘essential’ at all to play a weakened team on Saturday. In my opinion, the starting eleven for Tuesday needs more game time to work on tactics, passages of okay and shooting. If you don’t believe he would get pelters for playing a weakened team on Saturday and losing Tuesday, I strongly disagree. Evidence for boot sticking in from a section of the online fanbase suggests otherwise. The result at Gateshead mattered, the result on Saturday doesn’t so it shouldn’t surprise anybody if team changes are made. At the moment the only result that matters is Tuesday. As for Tuesday’s starting eleven needing more game time – they’ve had all season, another 90 minutes isn’t going to make much difference. Shooting, passing, tactics – isn’t that what training’s for?
Because Butler insists that his changes don’t weaken the team.
Replace a front 3 of Roberts, Whitehall, Jones with Dausch, Howe, Smith and that doesn’t weaken the team? Only one person doesn’t think so.
(Before anybody counters with “what do you expect him to say?” My response is “nothing rather than b******t”)BTW I don’t suppose we could strike lucky and get FGR could we? Fans would be delighted to have the opportunity to sing an apology to Robbie I’m sure.

Southend team selection would suggest they’d settled for an away play off game. Likely that our Saturday team might not be first eleven.

A valid conclusion but you only arrive at that if you don’t have a downer on Whitehall. I think your “underestimated” point is probably right also. As I’ve said elsewhere, Butler’s idea of system changes to counter the opposition just confuses the players. 4-3-3, round pegs in round holes and the players know their jobs and can play to their strengths. lancsiron’s point about GK and defence changes must also have contributed.

Well I’ve already posted once on this but I’ve since had a sleep and listened to AB’s post match interviews and more thoughts have made further comment required. In response to the question “why did you start with a back 3″ the response was, not verbatim, ” I needed to try in case we have to use it in the play offs” WHY!!!
What is this obsession with setting up to match the opposition? We can’t play 3-5-2 because we don’t have any WBs, the closest would be Scales & Denton but it’s not natural for either and it’s a complete waste of Pat Jones ability. Set up with a system that suits our players strengths and let the opposition match that if they want to.
I also think that our top class MF had a collective off day, understandable perhaps when they spent most of the game watching the ball flying from back to front over their heads.Sorry southend away moaners
Is my maths wrong? Beat Eastleigh and we’re fifth aren’t we?

A good illustration of how poor we are without Roberts.
Playing Jones at RWB is just unbelievable.
Changing systems during the game, sometimes more than once, just seems to confuse the players. We played our best, IMO, as a 4-3-3 and we have the players to fit that system.2 users thanked author for this post.
I hear Xxx dangled his worm and Mrs Xxx fell about laughing, just saying.
Mrs Xxx would be a surpeise.
They’ve nothing to play for in the league and have a Wembley final to look forward to. Could be that they’ll rest a few?
You’re younger than I expected.

They’re both fruit cakes SS so I guess that’s the suggestion. You’ll get used to what passes for humour on here the longer you stay. Don’t take offence, none intended I’m sure.
The problem being that the manager does not accept that resting, for example, Roberts, Whitehall, Rowley, JB, Westbrooke will weaken the team.

Fans that seems fair enough. An Uber fan craving attention and one that promotes himself by handing out mugs he’s had specifically made, now that’s something else.
And from what you say will dump us when a certain player moves on.
Nothing sinister but not warranted either, unless you want to make your play of why it is.Fans support clubs in different ways. Some buy season tickets, some buy shirts, some buy shares, some provide sponsorship, some watch occasionally (some only go to away games you know!) and, as we’ve seen, many give their time voluntarily.
That’s his way of supporting our club, albeit only temporarily. You think it’s OTT, I think it’s harmless.1 user thanked author for this post.
It has been stated that PD is a close friend of a current players father in law. Is it, therefore, a surprise that they are fans of whichever club the son in law is playing for? Nothing sinister in that as far as I can see. (unless you want there to be of course)
For Steve’s benefit. I make no apology for reposting something I posted yesterday which is more relevant on this thread.

Even those that have posted in favour of the drummer?
