I went to every home game from the 1-6 loss to Arsenal until he left. He mostly played right or central midfield so that explains his low ratio of goals with us.
I thought he was a good energetic player (not as good as Heath of course) but it was a complete shock when he went straight into the Liverpool team as a striker and immediately started banging in goals at the top level. How did we not spot he was a striker!
He had a fantastic career and I am proud that his career and first 120 games (pretty good for a 20 year old) started at Scunthorpe. It’s a fantastic story and so I do support our club honouring him with whatever can be raised.

The trust jumped the gun when there was no need to, time for a rethink and poll their members on what they would like if anything, and with the agreement that is acceptable to the club on their land or property.
Still in favour of Keegan’s bar and a simple memorial for all somewhere.Completely agree the Trust have jumped the gun with this. Not how you would expect the organisation to behave, with the bigwigs forcing the statue idea with fait accompli announcements and radio appearances. Gozza and co riding roughshod over their membership.

I expected much much more from the custodians of the Trust. What a letdown.

This is all very unlike the Trust and how it is operated historically. I am particularly surprised that a £500 donation appears to have been made from Trust funds without prior consultation with the membership. I can only assume that this was agreed by the Trust Board. Personally, I would favour a blue plaque-perhaps in the town at the front of the Baths.
In my opinion they ought to ask those who donate to the appeal what they want. Though I know that may not be possible due to some anonymous donors no doubt. In which case, ask the membership. Two or three options would probably suffice.

I’ve always been supportive of The Trust but I do think they’ve made a huge mistake with this.
Two emails in the past week. One directing me to the GFM page and a second telling me that after discussion with the club it was definitely happening. Neither invited me to offer my opinion although they have promised to share further details in due course.
They email me every month inviting me to vote for my POTM so I would have thought it would have been fairly straightforward to get my views on this issue.
Steve Askew’s article was well thought out and now that the dust has settled I’m sure that many more of our supporters are thinking along similar lines.
I do like the Blue Plaque idea, though where best to locate it could spark another heated debate.
