Walking Dinosaurs?
July 28, 2026 at 9:57 pm #323629They Couldn’t afford a leg of a statue with the current fundraising total but I certainly see the logic in commemorating his time here in whatever means we can afford.
A ballon D’or multiple winner is something we should be proud to be associated with, as he was with his time with us.
I hope we can find something more fitting than renaming the iron bar after him

Don’t be coy Deerey, you know you do.
Your responsibility is for all the bad things, anything good is what Matt or I doJuly 28, 2026 at 10:22 pm #323635I went to every home game from the 1-6 loss to Arsenal until he left. He mostly played right or central midfield so that explains his low ratio of goals with us.
I thought he was a good energetic player (not as good as Heath of course) but it was a complete shock when he went straight into the Liverpool team as a striker and immediately started banging in goals at the top level. How did we not spot he was a striker!
He had a fantastic career and I am proud that his career and first 120 games (pretty good for a 20 year old) started at Scunthorpe. It’s a fantastic story and so I do support our club honouring him with whatever can be raised.

July 28, 2026 at 10:51 pm #323636Never did a proper days hard graft!
Not having that!
I used to see him every morning when I was cycling to JL VI Form Col along Ashby Road. I think he was in digs somewhere off Rochdale Road and he would jog to the OSG where he would then run up and down the steps of the cantilever stand until the rest of the team turned up.
He trained harder and longer than anyone else so to say he never did a day’s hard graft is doing him a disservice.
July 28, 2026 at 10:55 pm #323638Sounds like Rocky and Eric Cantona in one,I love these stories,we should archive them.thats a true memorial

This thread is all about getting us to look at the cult page anyway, 64 the Double Agent
July 29, 2026 at 9:23 am #323643The Iron’s fanbase is acting in textbook binaries. Part of the herd mentality; driven by the notion of heroes and villains. Trick is to see beyond it.

It’s more about a Radio interview and this need we have to be seen to do something. My main Ire wise with the trust as it’s survival and good name are massively important to us all. The Doxxing oddball who runs the Facebook group has copy and pasted it to cause a row

How could anyone partaking in the Facebook page reasonably consider themselves ‘safe’ from that kind of behaviour? There’s no way the person who doxxed another should be an admin of anything. Really out of order, and completely undermines the credibility of that entire page – though it doesn’t have much anyway as it seems to be a bit of a lawless place.

July 29, 2026 at 3:29 pm #323695The trust jumped the gun when there was no need to, time for a rethink and poll their members on what they would like if anything, and with the agreement that is acceptable to the club on their land or property.
Still in favour of Keegan’s bar and a simple memorial for all somewhere.July 29, 2026 at 4:02 pm #323698Great article. Essential reading for all Iron fans, fans’ reps and Directors. Let’s hope its call is heeded.

Still in favour of Keegan’s bar and a simple memorial for all somewhere.Completely agree the Trust have jumped the gun with this. Not how you would expect the organisation to behave, with the bigwigs forcing the statue idea with fait accompli announcements and radio appearances. Gozza and co riding roughshod over their membership.

July 29, 2026 at 6:52 pm #323705That’s politicians for you. The Trump way, don’t consult just do what you want and don’t expect your actions to be questioned.

I expected much much more from the custodians of the Trust. What a letdown.

July 29, 2026 at 6:57 pm #323707In my opinion they ought to ask those who donate to the appeal what they want. Though I know that may not be possible due to some anonymous donors no doubt. In which case, ask the membership. Two or three options would probably suffice.

This would actually prevent those who may wish to donate from doing so. Why would you chuck money in blindly to get a vote, only to ‘lose the vote’ and then have to suffer something you didn’t want – and worse, contribute to the cost of it!?

They should have left it a couple of weeks, and then asked for opinions.
July 29, 2026 at 7:33 pm #323710Have they addressed the question of the £500 they’ve donated to the gofundme collection?
Was it from funds that they stated would be to buy shares?July 29, 2026 at 7:41 pm #323711Never did a proper days hard graft!

An 8 hour shift at the coal face? 8 / 12 hour shifts at the steelworks?
8 / 10 hour shifts on construction sites.Hard running up and down a small stand for 10 minutes at 18… innit?
July 29, 2026 at 7:44 pm #323712Steven Askew‘ article:
Well written and hits the nail on the head!
July 29, 2026 at 7:44 pm #323713This is all very unlike the Trust and how it is operated historically. I am particularly surprised that a £500 donation appears to have been made from Trust funds without prior consultation with the membership. I can only assume that this was agreed by the Trust Board. Personally, I would favour a blue plaque-perhaps in the town at the front of the Baths.

Bryan Gosling of the Trust on X claiming that: “ people need to realise that this statue is for KEVIN KEEGAN, not for the iron trust, the iron trust have just voiced this idea from its members “
Oh really? Which members?
If actually any, why not all?
July 29, 2026 at 11:11 pm #323722I’ve always been supportive of The Trust but I do think they’ve made a huge mistake with this.
Two emails in the past week. One directing me to the GFM page and a second telling me that after discussion with the club it was definitely happening. Neither invited me to offer my opinion although they have promised to share further details in due course.
They email me every month inviting me to vote for my POTM so I would have thought it would have been fairly straightforward to get my views on this issue.
Steve Askew’s article was well thought out and now that the dust has settled I’m sure that many more of our supporters are thinking along similar lines.
I do like the Blue Plaque idea, though where best to locate it could spark another heated debate.
