Anyone else sick of our fans turning the club into a joke ?
The latest fans group and the knee jerk need to be seen to do something all the time by fans groups is getting embarrassing .We need to focus as a club and a fan base .I meant to watch the Iron play well and feel invested in the club.,I don’t give a shit about Laying wreaths at an effigy of an old player or walk around wearing an armband like a modern court jester . We’re becoming a joke .

How many on here actually saw him play for Scunny?

Age 20 when he left for the Scousers in 1971.

Scored a goal in (roughly) every seventh game for the Iron.

Obviously Liverpool saw something in him.

Of those on here that saw him play for the Iron… what were your thoughts on him at that time? If you can remember :-)

Do we really need to erect a statue of someone who scored a goal every 7 games for Scunthorpe United?

Are we just “riding on someone’s coattails” – is Armthorpe Junior School erecting a statute? The sea cadets? His Sunday School? etc

At the end of the day; he didn’t discover a miracle cure for any nasty disease – he just played football … and was rewarded handsomely (at the rate of that time / era) for doing so.

Never did a proper days hard graft!

Us oldies saw him over the three years he was with us, scored a cracker against Swansea at home although we lost the game 1-3 and he scored one of the four against Macclesfield in the fa cup replay ( header I think ) 4-2 win, those goals spring to mind. He improved every season he played with us and tbf was well ready for a move when it happened although us young uns ( back then we were young ) were sad to see him go, we could relate to him a bit more with him being a young lad himself. I personally remember his time with us with fondness and was chuffed for him when his career took off, just a great player and a nice guy.

I saw him play with Clemance in goal in that fa cup year we reached the 5th round.used go to Quibell park to watch the team train.l had his auto graph signed J K Keegan was and is one of my Scunny united heros he was just an ordinary guy.

Apologies for pedantry, but Geoff Barnard was in goal that day.

Keegan and Clemence’s times in the first team didn’t overlap.

Keegan’s transfer to Liverpool epitomised the “cheap” directors we seem to attract at Scunny.
Clemence went to Liverpool for only £18,000, and went on to captain England.
Keegan was sold for only £35,000, iirc the same year as ManU paid Bournemouth £100,000 for Ted McDougal.

I get your drift alcy but McDougal ( bought in 1972 actually) was a proven goal scorer in division three and had scored a shed load in an fa cup game which got the mancs sniffing round . Keegan was a young winger/ midfielder who had scored considerably less in a division lower and was still learning his trade, McDougal was an established competent striker, bit of difference comparison wise tbf.

Unlike some (you know who you are) I’m never afraid to admit I was wrong. Mrs CT will confirm BTW. I have owned up before to my expert analysis having seen KK as a youngster, 6 stone wringing wet, I think in a 6-1 defeat to Arsenal but time may have dulled my memory.
