being as no one else has posted a new WC thread i thought i would ..mostly so the football savvy Ironbru members can offer their thoughts and predictions on the up n coming soccer circus.

    FWIW
IFA has never been so uninterested in a FWC tourny more than this, always in the past from being a teen ive looked forward to it but nowadays same as lots of other things in the world its turned a bit naff… too many over paid prancers diving and feigning injury , obscure rules and wokeness spoiling the game and the biggest factor for me personally are the nasty KO times here in Asia.

Following on from above i dont really care who wins it but IMO it wont be England or Scotland … to be truthful i only recognized a hand full of names in the England squad chosen and Scotland while i wish them well they are in a very hard group.

    Rather a meaningless prediction but
Winners NOT A CLUE somebody other than the usual big names would be great but i suspect there will be bias and some strange decisions allowing the right team to progress.

** 3 outsiders to cause a shock Austria Mexico and Norway **

    As ever UTI

It should never have gone to the USA with it’s current incumbent as president, it’s already a political minefield with perfectly legitimate officials with all the correct paperwork in place being banned because they come from a country Trump has targeted. This World Cup will be all about him as more bullshit rules and regs emerge, don’t give a monkeys who wins the tournament its ruined already IMO with over priced tickets and fans who have already paid banned from entering this ridiculous country, dangerous and pathetic from FIFA to suck up to this criminal corrupt politician.

    ‘wokeness spoiling the game’

What ‘wokeness’ exactly is spoiling it in your view?

This WC fantasy football game https://play.fifa.com/fantasy/team and the Bru WC predictions league have increased my interest and investment in the tournament.

It should never have been awarded to Qatar or Russia either.
As for awarding it to Saudi Arabia, that’s just ridiculous. But hey that’s FIFA for you.

    Morocco and Ecuador to surprise.

    England to disappoint.

    Scotland to fail in style.

Hopefully Brazil win it, but probably Spain or France.

    I too have little interest…….

Can’t really blame Trump for the USA holding the tournament it was awarded in 2018, now you can blame the swiss wop who sucks up to all and sundry. (Trump was president when t was given)
The equivalent to our Positive Dave giving away his little trinkets and taking every opportunity to have his photo shoot.

Mmm and the other points a I made about legitimate officials banned and fans who have already paid and are coming over to support their country being banned from the USA by the Trump administration, you are fine with all that I suppose. These are legitimate football fans who you always purport to support every other time?

It’s Brazil Jim, but not as we know it!

Bruno Guimaraes, Casimero, Neymar, Vinicius Jnr, Matheus Cunha?

Hardly an upgrade on the likes of Carlos Alberto, Jairzinho, Socrates, Zico and Pele are they?

B-movie football in a Hollywood setting.

As much as I dislike Trump, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022 were worse decisions given the worse natures of their governments and human rights abuses. FIFA were always going to suck up to Trump when they sucked up to Putin and the Sheikhs.

Agree with all your points Ironawe just laying the blame at the right person that’s all, along with all his cronies who gave them and other dodgy countries the tournament.
So many mugs needed to give away to get their vote, that’s why we’ve always been shafted when applying playing the straight ish bat and all.
No real interest in the tournament, said before to big in more ways than one, even Scotland should get out of the group stage and we’ll never here the end of that.
Hardly likely to watch any England games just not interested, maybe if they get to the final.

Yep can’t disagree about your view on the tournament Awaywego, I will be more interested in who the Iron sign then watching the World Cup games, football sold out a long time ago and the greed of FIFA regarding this current tournament proves it even more.

The football will likely give us some memorable moments, but it’s hard to ignore everything happening off the pitch.

The World Cup is supposed to be a celebration of the world’s game, bringing together fans from every country and background. Instead, we’re seeing concerns about visas, travel restrictions and even officials being denied entry to the host nation. That creates a perception that some supporters are more welcome than others, which is the exact opposite of what a World Cup should represent. Recent controversies involving visa issues and entry refusals have only added to those concerns.

Then there’s FIFA itself. This is an organisation with a long history of corruption allegations and governance scandals, yet it continues to act as if criticism is unreasonable. The World Cup has become less about football and more about politics, corporate interests and extracting as much money as possible from fans through eye-watering ticket prices.

I love the World Cup and I’ll still watch it, but FIFA shouldn’t get a free pass. If you’re hosting a global tournament, fans, players and officials from around the world should feel welcome, and the governing body should be held to a much higher standard than it has been historically.

Only watched the YouTube eight to nine minute highlights so far, kick off times being unreasonable.
The winning teams seem very incisive in using the wings.

Never been one to fight the corner of petrostate dictatorships but that VAR decision for the Swiss penalty was ridiculous.

Whatever meagre scraps of credibility that FIFA came into this tournament with takes yet another bashing.

Gutted for Haiti. If they had any kind of end product that could well have been a draw. Scotland were very poor.

Few Dutch this morning and the Swedes wear theirs regularly.

Australia looked very shaky in defence, lots of weak clearances.

Only watched the first half but Morocco ran Brazil ragged. Only a touch of genius from Vinicius Jnr got them back on level terms. If England meet either of them in the later stages, I’d be more worried about Morocco

Second half wasn’t as good. Then as the game wore on both were taking less chances and looked to be settling for a draw. I wouldn’t want to either. Morocco were dynamic and Brazil can always conjure up a goal out of nothing

Yes, and if Scotland had 2 fantastic strikers and a quality keeper they may have won 6-0.

If Scotland had 2 fantastic strikers they would have to play far better than that to get anywhere near 6 goals. It is all about the result though, not taking away that aspect, but Scotland’s performance was bad, while Haiti was spirited but with no end product.

Haiti also dived all over the place looking for a penalty, but never got booked for it.

They were strong and physical and that was about it.

Not a good side, although they did wallop New Zealand 4-0.
