So game 1 we played OK for the last 45 minutes.

Game 2 we played OK for the last 4 or 5 minutes.

Maybe 8 years of sideways and backwards passing wasn’t just Southgate’s idea.

I thought we were good in game 1, but that was not very good. That said, we drew with worse and played worse with Southgate. Still, I am not convinced about a deep run. Quarters, I feel.

Tough game today and Ghana got their game plan spot on, another night the late Kane chance goes in but Ghana were good value for their point. Whatever people say you won’t win every game and teams won’t turn up and play the game you want them too but at least Tuchel shows plenty of passion on the touch line, let’s his players know his displeasure and try’s to change the team around with his substitutes, thought we looked better late on with Saka and Rashford on the field and we go into the last group game top and we will qualify.

Not seen any other team so far who have parked the bus and parked it so effectively for the vast majority of the game. None of the top sides would have found it easy to break down though some have a magician or two who could. Always thought it could be a tough game and Queiroz outfoxed Tuchel there. Knew how his team could get a draw against a good England side but lacking that class A quality in too many areas to be serious tournament winning contenders. If the majority of English pundits can’t see that they’re either kidding themselves or deluded. Or following the gig money.

Why is it that whenever Brazil have a half-decent performance, we have commentators purring over them as if they are champions elect? Brazil looked the better side than Scotland, but the Scots did threaten them at times, and better teams may exploit that. Yet, the commentators I had on were speaking as if that was some all time classic Brazil performance, where no team could possibly defeat them. They weren’t that good; they had Vini and Cunha threaten, but other times, they looked vulnerable. Netherlands or Japan could well beat them and I would laugh if they did, given how much fawning they got today for what was a standard solid performance.

I’ll be glad when Scotland are out of it. All this ‘chance to be a legend’, ‘wonderful fans’, ‘Flower of Scotland’ overkill is tiresome and naff.

Don’t you remember the 1974 finals alcy? Brazil went all defensive and negative and the Dutch knocked them out 2-0 with Cruyff and Neeskens scoring the goals, at the time the pundits said it was the worst Brazilian team ever which I believe they were. This current bunch defensively look suspect at times as the Jocks proved second half last night but the Brazilians could have won 5 or 6 on another night. Deffo no foul for me on the disallowed second goal and TBF the Jocks weren’t up to it. France look decent so far with Argentina a close second.

Don’t get the obsession of just wanting to get to the knockout stages to then come off second best again like against Morocco and Brazil, and all previous world cups.
Same with England fans and Scunny for that matter wanting everything at all costs.
Understand at latter stages but throughout campaigns you actually should want to enjoy the game and performances, rather than just wanting another game.
Come back Scotland when you’ve a reasonable chance of contesting, not like it’s their first rodeo.

Those finals I was at college, TV room always booked for something else.
Saw the final, only, at the digs of a mate.
Annoyed everyone, (I know, not like me), by supporting W Germany, as I greatly admired Gerd Muller.

Spain too, but at least with Spain and Argentina they have among the best squads now and have won tournaments recently. Portugal have a good squad, but are hindered by Ronaldo, even though some of the fawning comes from that. I don’t think Ronaldo is ‘back’ because he scored 2 goals against a really bad Uzbekistan. He hindered them last Euros and am not convinced catering for him won’t harm Portugal against better teams.

Pundits seem to live off the past with Brazil. They were great in the past, so we must adore them now. When Germany beat them 7-1 I was in awe of a great German performance and one of the best of this century. Yet, at the end of the game, pundits like Alan Hansen were gloomily proclaiming it as a dark day for football because Brazil got thumped and we all want a great Brazil. If the scores were reversed, I doubt they would mourn the defeat of Germany if scores were reversed.

Yeah I don’t understand the fuss about Brazil, they were great for about 30 odd years 1970-2002 and have since just been living off past glories, no-one more aware of this than the Brazilians. The 7-1 was the complete deconstruction of the Joga Bonito concept, and on their home turf. Probably the funniest match i’ve witnessed given their OTT commemoration to the dearly departed (injured) Neymar before kick off.

Speaking of Schadenfreude, who else is enjoying the great Steve Clarke jock meltdoon today? Perhaps they should have been more critical of the team for not putting more past Haiti given the two remaining fixtures they had.

So the Jocks have arrived home before the postcards,in fact i bought a 7/11 yogurt with a longer expiry date than the Scotts WC dreams. .. Oh dear how sad NEVERMIND ..it took 62 yrs for them to get to the WC before FIFA upped the intake to give them a chance whilst feathering their own nest as is the norm.

We haven’t looked convincing, but we didn’t last Euros and got to thr final. We aren’t the only ones. Germany aren’t convincing and Spain look just as bad.

Never have thought the group form meant a lot it’s all about just winning, finishing top if possible to get the best first knock out phase game and England TBF have done that. Quite a few squad players given game time, whether you think that’s tinkering or not is purely opinion I personally think it’s important to get game time into as many players legs as possible based on the opponents your facing. The further you go the better the opponents and they tend to come at you more whereas only Croatia out of Englands group did that. A few concerns about the right back injuries but hey your in a knockout competition now and someone will come in and do a job there after all they are all supposedly top class players hence they wear the England shirt.
