I’d be happy with Rowley and another “whoever he turns out to be” with Beestin as the more attacking option. I liked Rowley, Westbrooke and ewing last season in CM, but thought it was a little too conservative overall. I always thought we looked more effective with Beestin in there due to Westbrooke and Rowley being very similar to one another.

Loan signing, only played about 7 games, but little ramon nunez. Complete left field jinking winger, think he was Honduran. He was exciting, albeit short lived.
Beags for overall contributuion was/is the best, but Lee Hodges on his day was pure magic.
Evans captain. Rowley vice captain.
Appears the grant is being put to good use. About time after last seasons debacle.

LeftToe, if we get Sellars flemming on loan with Jones on the other side we’ll be fine. Connor Smith may actually turn up this season !

If that was who was recommending a completely random player, I would have been absolutely hammered.
“No apology needed. Never heard of him though”
This is the forum equivelent of Keir Starmer’s two tier policing. Give me a break. You should be calling him an idiot and accusing him of acquiring his name from football manager.
Pathetic.

“A streetwise ex-player who won’t give a toss about boo boys…”
Butler’s skin is as thin as rice paper. You not seen some of the comments he’s come out with ?.
Funny way of showing he doesn’t care. I’d argue it’s completely the opposite. I’d say he’s thin skinned, stubborn, egotistical and petty.
But most important he’s proving to be a good manager.
By one and burn it. Absolute disgrace that pitch last season.
Gooooood player is Loberts.
How can you not have seen the club pictures of the pitch been stripped back with a tractor riding around on it ?. Does your cave not have electricity ?
I’m with left toe, if a ref has made a clear balls up then intervene, but not for every single little thing. Players are reffing the game because they know if they throw themselves to the floor or invite a foul and go over the VAR will 100% intervene.
It’s not added anything to football. Made it worse.

I read either next week or week after they are doing something with the drainage too to help protect the pitch once it’s bedded down.
Arsenal have been getting away with it all season at corners, yet now they’ve suddenly decided to crack down on it. All VAR has done is allow players to referee the game and take the responsiblity away from the ref, to a few clueless idiots who spend 5 minutes looking at various camera angles to still get it wrong.
We were lied to. Fans were told VAR was only to be used if the outcome of clips were clear and obvious, we weren’t told it would be used to deem whether a players nose is offside.
Seriously needs scaling down and only used on goal line technology and incidents which they can come to a clear and obvious decision on. If their unclear and have to look over and over they need to pass responsibility back to the referee.
They should have a deadline of say 2 minutes and if it’s not clear and obvious in 2 mins they should revert to the guy that’s actually there on the pitch. The Bloody Ref.
In one prem game they took over 5 minutes to see if a players shoulder was in an offside position. It’s an absolute shambles.

Wasn’t the initial seeding OK but the aftercare package lacking?
Yes. They penny pinched and royally screwed up. Harness said in a statement recently that we’re spending money on updating irrigation system to improve the playing surface.
Also the upkeep of the ground is to be brought back in house again and we’re to employ a dedicated groundsman to tend to the pitch.
Appears they’ve learnt their lesson.
Better suppliers of turf being used. Proper pitch maintainence brought in house. Irrigation system update.
If we did get that grant, which seems to be the case…it appears it’s going to be spent wisely.
I can’t be doing with the pitch we’ve had the season just gone. Absolute disgrace at times. That was more fit for animals than it was football.
A Dec Howe with experience (NLN) Not for me.
Difference between the two is Blackett is rapid. Dec Howe for all his qualities isn’t. I see what you’re saying though. Where would he play in a butler 11 ?
Maison Campbell and Louis Jones being retained worries me. I hope Butler has learnt his lesson and signs a quality keeper. I have a horrible feeling those are the two Butler will be banking on.
I’d snap him up sharpish. Looked a quality player when on loan.
Now he would be a good signing if his loan is anything to go by.
Was that not what we were saying about Connor Smith?
Different scenarios. Smith played the season as a central midfielder so would have been unfamiliar with playing out wide again. That was always going to take time.
Bunker is a central midfielder who always played there. You have to take into consideration he moved from Scotland so he’ll need to settle as he has a young family. Didn’t his partner also recently give birth too ?
There was always going to be a lot to contend with regarding Smith.
A bit off topic, but why keep Barrows. JB, Starbuck, Rose and Barrows. How many RB options does Butler need ?. I get we could use one a back up CB, but still overkill.

Shocked to see Harvey Bunker released by Forest Green. Bunker was class when on loan. Still only 23yrs old. I’d snap him up sharpish. Looed a quality player when on loan. Tall, strong, athletic and good on the ball.
Now he would be a good signing if his loan is anything to go by.
Without Whitehall we lack a focal point up front and, as his fitness for a 50 or so games a season is not assured, I think an alternative is vital.
We had one in Farrell, pity Barnsley won’t let him out on loan again. I see he’s bee featuring for them from the bench and netted a last minute goal a few games ago. I highly doubt they will let him go as they aren’t exactly pulling up trees.
I could see Sellars flemming coming back. Not featured much for the cods. Mo Fadera is out of contract come end of the season. I’d have him back as a wild card off the bench. I thought he looked promising when on loan, bit raw, but he had something about him.
We need to trim back the RB options within the squad and spend it elsewhere. We don’t need 4 options at RB. That’s the epitome of overkill.
Connor Smith has been a dreadul signing so far. I hope he improves for next season.
At the back is more important. Barrows or Jb needs releasing as we have Rose, Starbuck, Jb and Barrows for RB.Maybe Keep JB and have him as a back up option CB against teams with pace ?. Next season if we ever did switch to wing backs, Jb could fit in well flying down the right side. Defensively questionable, but is Barrows much better ?
I think JB would offer more versatility as a squad option.
If we’re unable to sign Westbrooke, we may even stick Rose in CM with Beestin and Rowley. He looked good there before going off crocked.
I thought Farrell looked a more effective version of Whitehall. I doubt Barnsley would want to let go off him on loan as he’s been performing for them from the bench. Scored in the 96th minute in of their matches to seal a point at the death.
They will want him around. We may be able to get Sellers-Flemming back. Not really featured at the Cods and Hull will want him to get experience.
Jones isn’t the answer in goal. Again, similar to others we’ve had in that he’s a good shot stopper, but doesn’t look dependable enough in the other Gk areas to be an actual proper no 1 Keeper.
We desperately need a proper, dependable GK who is recognised and who is solid enough to be an actual no 1 keeper.
We haven’t had one all season.
Moving off the Gk topic. I saw the other day that Mo Fadera is out of contract at York City. Would you have him back ?
I thought he had something about him. Looked raw, but he definitely had talent.
JB would be better as a RWB rather than RB. Hortons decent going forward from what I remember earlier in the season. Not so sure Butler is going to change.

I liked Westbrooke, Rowley and Ewing in midfield, but always thought those 3 were too defensively minded. I always thought Beestin looked better in there as he was the one usually breaking forward.
I’d like to see him first choice next season to offer more goal threat from CM. Also for those asking for Mahady and Watson or Jones to be number one need to have a long hard look in the mirror, as neither of those 3 are even anywhere near no 1 material.
It’s about time Butler signed a dependable, experienced GK who we can actually call our number one. The GK position, along with CB is what’s cost us this season. Horton needs to go back to LB, or at least compete with Denton and Rose needs to go RB.
Question is, who do we release out of JB and Barrows ?. We don’t need 3 options at RB.
I was set on Barrows going, but going by JB’s defensive disasterclass yesterday, I’m not so sure now. Barrows is more solid defensively, but he’s no world beater himself and with JB you have ridiculous pace and attacking ability flying up and down the right side.
It’s a tough call between those two.
Not really convinced with denton, he has patches in games when he looks really assured but for the most part he lacks quality when it comes to making the final pass/cross, even at this level.
Horton started well at Lb, but then picked up that injury and when he came back looked a bit dodgy. Still think he looks a bit more measured than Denton. If Rose is fit, I’d defnitely choose him ahead of Jb, who looked absolutely shocking.
Brogan would have been the one I would have had on the bench. We got completely dominated in midfield yesterday, but the biggest culprit was JB as he simply couldn’t defend. No idea what he was doing. 2nd goal he went walkabouts and then fell asleep and nearly gave a goal away when a rochdale player ran alongside him to take the ball from him. Comical really.
Where did this positivity dave spawn from ?. All of a sudden he just popped out of nowhere.
Roberts was in tears waving after the game so expect him to be going. I can’t really say I’m surprised. Ewing has had a contract in front of him for what seems like half a season and didn’t sign, so expect them both to move on.
Beestin, westbrook and Rowley would be strong and Ewing went off the boil for a quite a while anyway.
Roberts will be the tricky one to even attempt to replace. We’ll be in the loan market/NLN for a replacement. There are some really good wide attackers at that level.
Case of would they settle ?. Look at Smith second time around, it looks like we’ve signed a different Smith. Looks more Delia than Connor.
I get he was playing as a CM in Scotland, but that signing has been absolutely horrific. Tyrell Sellars replacement ?????
Not so sure roaming bull. We’ve done as well as we’ve done with a catalogue of questionable GK’s between the sticks with a LB playing at CB for a bulk of the season. Boyce as backl up despite him at times looking like he was wading through thick treacle.
If we get a good replacement for Roberts and Westbrook on a perm contract with a good dependable GK and a proper CB next to Evans, we should do pretty well.
I don’t think the league will be as strong next season.
Beestin, Westbrook and Rowley in CM doesn’t seem bad to me. We need another striker to put real pressure on Whitehall. It’s the defence which really needs strengthening. Rose and Jb for RB slot. Horton and Denton for LB. If we get a few good solid CB’s in and a good Gk who could actually be classed as a proper, dependable no 1, we’ll be fine.
Do we need Barrows, Rose and Jb for RB position ?

That’s why I said ‘on his day’. I recall many days when he wasn’t in the game at all
Only the elite players are on it every game. He was fantasic while he was here.
You’re decription matches Kevan Hurst more than it does Josh Morris. Now, that was one inconsistent winger !
I was worried Butler treat the last 4 or 5 matches as if they were pre season friendlies and we were in poor form, but credit to him, they looked fresh and hungry.
Stiffled Southend in midfield and completely shut them out at the back and bullied them, we never allowed them to play their own game. Shut them down.
Rochdale may well be suffering a hangover from their crazy game when they went from champions to also rans in a blink of an eye. They may very well be finding it hard to get over that.
Another performance like that with a little more football played by us and we could do this. Looked really solid.
