Why? Can’t work out the question to which his signing is the answer. Am I missing something? Alty let him go in January and he has barely kicked a ball at Macc.
July 1, 2026 at 5:03 pm #322571Been around and not that prolific.
He is tall though 1.94m.
July 1, 2026 at 5:05 pm #322572As i wrote on another thread not enthused by this signing at all .. 14 goals in 5 years , not good enough for Alty and Macc Town and comes with a rumoured bad attitude.
Hope to be proved wrong time will tell.July 1, 2026 at 6:02 pm #322575Why? Can’t work out the question to which his signing is the answer. Am I missing something? Alty let him go in January and he has barely kicked a ball at Macc.
He played 25 times for Macc since January scoring 8 goals. Not exactly an inspiring signing but how does that fit your definition of barely kicking a ball?
July 1, 2026 at 6:04 pm #32257614 goals in 5 years
He scored 13 goals last season between Alty and Macc so not sure where you’re getting your figures from.
July 1, 2026 at 6:09 pm #322578Bungler, sorry, Butler starting to look desperate
July 1, 2026 at 6:50 pm #322587He still played 47 games for Mansfield in the football league, and like someone else said he scored 13 goals last season between two clubs
July 1, 2026 at 7:29 pm #322592Going on our recent signings I almost expected John Gale returning.

July 1, 2026 at 8:05 pm #322594If got an attitude issue then there will be a meeting of tantrums.
Early candidate for ‘on loan for games’ ?

July 1, 2026 at 9:07 pm #322600Beck replacement? Guess that rules out a Farrell return.
July 1, 2026 at 9:27 pm #322601I stand corrected. That’s not what the various profiles I found said.

July 1, 2026 at 10:01 pm #322602If you read his interview regarding his role within the team this coming season, it doesn’t appear he’s been brought as a simple targetman.
” When asked about the conversations that Gale had held with Butler prior to joining the club and what made him keen to join, he responded: “I spoke to the gaffer on the phone before I joined, and we spoke about my role and where he sees me playing. I don’t think it’s going to be just as simple as me being up front trying to hold it up. I think there’ll be a bit more to my game this year in terms of runs and getting in behind.
“I think that it’s always good to have a good striker union and strike partnerships that can form. There will be different games where different partnerships will be needed”
Has he been brought in to run the channels ?. We may be looking to line up with two strikers this coming season.
Finally, Gale closed the interview by giving an insight into the kind of player he is and what Iron fans can expect to see from him during his time with the club: “I’m aggressive, I like running, and I can come up with a goal when I need to”
July 1, 2026 at 10:13 pm #322603Hope not, 2 up front would suggest a return to 3-5-2 / 5-3-2 is on the cards…which none of us want to see!
July 1, 2026 at 11:56 pm #322605Gale did talk about striker partnerships as if we’re to go two up top. Sounds like it. 4/4/2 ?
I can’t see it being anything but that due to paying fee’s for Brennan and Jones. I highly doubt we’d sign Brennan if he was planning to play 3-5-2 / 5-3-2.
July 2, 2026 at 7:22 am #322607Please confirm that this was a free transfer.
July 2, 2026 at 7:27 am #32260814 goals in 5 years

His senior career stats up to joining Alty then Macc (5 yrs) were posted on the club FB page thread announcing him signing .. prior to his last 2 clubs he scored 14 goals in 5 seasons.
Lets hope he shows more of the form when at Macc all be it in a lower league.
Fans from both Alty where he was let go and Macc dont rate him too highly commenting not sure hes good enough for Scunny and its a great move for him.July 2, 2026 at 7:40 am #322609An interesting footballer with interesting experience is James.
Still ony 24 – he appears to be the sort of player who might really come good as he approaches his peak over the next two years.
Dec Howe got 13 goals without a huge amount of pitch time last season. I suspect that he is the better player.
Time will tell.1 user thanked author for this post.
July 2, 2026 at 8:59 am #322610I think if he’s expecting to play up front with Whitehall he might be disappointed.
IF!! we go 4-4-2 then surely Howe would be first choice. Looks to me like a sub for Whitehall when he’s tired or injured.1 user thanked author for this post.
July 2, 2026 at 9:49 am #322612Would be a big success story if they can get the best out of him. You never know. We definitely need to start generating more income from transfers and sell ons.
July 2, 2026 at 10:36 am #322614Mark Beck 2.0?
July 2, 2026 at 5:48 pm #322632Good luck James and the rest of the signings you’re going to need it with us miserable buggers

July 2, 2026 at 7:28 pm #322634Mark Beck 2.0?
yeah exactly my take .. tho he has youth on his side

A tenner pocket money and a 1lb of jelly babies each week means it’s a no brainer.
July 5, 2026 at 6:27 pm #322712Took the time to watch most of his goals from last season, if he hits the ground running,we have signed a true gem.
