Back in the 60s at John Leggot, Old Nick – teacher of some form of English – liked to attract the attention of pupils by shrieking ‘Hugh boy’ at the top of his voice to any inattentive pupil. (More often than not it was to my late, lifelong friend Ray Nimmo.)

An interesting footballer with interesting experience is James.
Still ony 24 – he appears to be the sort of player who might really come good as he approaches his peak over the next two years.
Dec Howe got 13 goals without a huge amount of pitch time last season. I suspect that he is the better player.
Time will tell.

Denton was excellent going forward and defending in NLN.
I really think that he should look as good at this level. IMHO, there is a better player in there than the one we saw last season.
Anything to do with that injury, I wonder?

There is someone on the books whose form will surely decide what kind of season we’ll be having.
Of course it’s Smith. All regular fans have seen what this awesome player can do.
Who wasn’t delighted to see his return?
Who wasn’t heartbroken to see a player of his calibre struggling?
I’m being optimistic by saying that I truly expect training will get him back on track.
If I’m wrong – for only the second time in many a year on this board – I’d be recommending ‘a sports shrink.’

His history of involvement in goals might mean that he is the intended replacement for you-know-who.
The 3 year contract is another clue.
Oooh. We paid money – this might well suggest serious intent.
Let’s hope that this works out – AB and the board deserve it to.
It is also great to see that we have two beltin’ wide men in the same squad.
It will be interesting to see what formation we use.

I have mixed feelings on this one.
He started really well BUT wasn’t getting goals.
In 2026 – seemed to lose interest for a period. There was speculation that ‘this was because he wanted to move on.’
Improved pre-playoffs.
Overall, he looked good – but rarely changed matches.
Does want to move on.
All things considered not all that unhappy to see him go.

Louis and Rory – would be quite a respectable pairing.
Would still prefer a Northampton player who is not unknown to us to be in the mix.
Has AB moved on from his early season praise for a certain young GK.

Denton does not look as good as last season. Dunno why not – he surely has the talent for the NL.

Lot of rumours last season about Roberts going but …
It could easily cost us 8 or 10 places if it were to happen. IMHO – without him and Ewing, in order to challenge, there’d have to be 4 or 5 better players coming in than we have at the moment.
