Do we really believe that Campbell is better than Louis?

There is perhaps a bit of an upside here. I don’t yet think that the recruitment has been too terrible. (A rather strange mix, admittedly.)
But with a tad of common sense, a touch of logic and a spoonful of ordered thinking, the players really ought to be adequate for avoiding relegation.1 user thanked author for this post.
I don’t like the number of shots coming in from about 20 – 22 yards out, directly in front of the goal AND unchallenged. Even an old bloke like me could probably score a few from that position. (Provided the left knee holds up, of course.)

I am struggling to think of many seasons which have begun as wretchedly as this one.
I looked at the balance of the side as newcomers arrived and there were also unexpected contracts for players who should have departed.
Any sort of proper balance was demonstrably absent in the new squad.
(Should the board have been in such a hurry to dish out a relatively lengthy contract to AB?)
I must say that this was the most concerning close season I can remember.
What is more, with this group – not even the mighty Cal could have changed the direction of this sinking ship.
Okay. I am not always the most cheerful chappie but I do have bells of doom ringing threateningly in my ears.

Levels of commitment were higher.

AB did pretty well in winning promotion and handling the side in the NL. But – I do still recall that dreadful Autumn. He seemed to dig his heels in and deployed tactics which had been thoroughly sussed.
I wrote a fair few times on Bru pointing out the weaknesses and – in particular – warning that dismissal was very possible with his way of looking at things. I advised with methods to avoid getting sacked that most supporters apparently agreed with. (I have been involved in sackings in my working life and truly do not like to see anyone ever get the boot.)
However, finally, we came to that appalling game at home to Alfreton. The performance was shameful and I reluctantly switched to demanding his head on a platter.
Happily, that wasn’t necessary and promotion was achieved. (Nothing down to me at all, of course, but more to the myriads of fans singing from the same hymn sheet.)
We seem now to be seeing an echo of that Autumn.

I just hope that we can up our game to mediocre in the second half.
To win this, we are going to have to aim for below par – coz they are nowt. Don’t think we are capable of such dizzy heights though.

Sarfend have noticeably improved last season’s side.
The Iron have not – and this is compounded because AB hasn’t a clue what his best side is. (I am not blaming him for that – I have watched the Iron over 60 years and I’m far from sure.)
GK needs several kicks up rear even though he helped in preventing a massacre.

I used to get lifts with George from Burton-Stather to the OSG on a very regular basis as a teenager. (I wonder if he remembers that callow youth?)

I do not want to belittle any young lad – and I shan’t.
AB thinks the lad has ‘something’ – fine let’s, hopefully, give him a chance.
If he is not a scorer – which the stats do seem to indicate – it may well be that AB wants to experiment in some way.
Dunno.
