To be fair, he’s done well to play another 200 games after leaving us, considering this:

Sam Sloc played 8 league games last season – 3 clean sheets conceded 7 goals in the other five games

Be interesting to know the scores in those 8 games.

Without wishing to defend the Telegraph too much (the online coverage is appalling unless you’re interested in who’s died recently or where mobile speed cameras will be), the print version does still offer some coverage, albeit not much.

For example, this week, in advance of the playoff final, there was a single page, mainly about Danny Whitehall.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to access it through library services – in Doncaster, BorrowBox provides free access to the Scunthorpe Telegraph and many other local and national newspapers – I’m not sure whether the North Lincs Library version mentioned above would do (it’s only recently appeared on BorrowBox).

Unless things have changed spectacularly since November 2023, when Prince Real Estate International Limited had one director and one employee (presumably the same person) and lost £150k in the financial year, I’m not going to get too excited about this appointment.

Information publicly available on the Companies House website.

Bad debt could also be a purchase of something that can never be repaid.

It can, but in the case of a debtor going bust there would be invoices with precise figures on them – the chances of those adding up to such an exact round figure are so slim as to be infinitesimal.

Accountants tend not to round up figures when there’s documentation that allows a precise figure to be traceable and more easily audited.

What was the official reason for only being able to pay for season tickets with cash again??

To be fair, that was one of the few plausible things he ever said – if it’s necessary to lodge a large deposit as security for the facility to collect upfront payments, it rather defeats the object of collecting those payments upfront, especially at a discount.

Bear in mind the same restriction applies this year, so presumably current management think likewise.

*Not disputing ironfromafar’s earlier calculation though!?

Weirdly, having paid for last week’s game, it’s letting me watch this one too, but only on iPad. When I try to watch on the TV app, it tells me I have too many streams, even when I switch off the iPad.

iPad it is then! Unexpected bonus, having not been able to find anywhere to pay for the night’s match..

Annual pass is £189.99 or £16.99 per month. Are you sure that special offer isn’t for the main DAZN offering (boxing, not including PPV)?

NL North/South fixtures aren’t guaranteed to be on either; presumably we’re on most of the time because we’re ‘massive’. Most fixtures in the division aren’t shown.

Different matter next season though if we can get up…

On the plus side, if you can’t get to the match on Saturday either, it’s just been added to the schedule (presumably as it’s an international weekend).

For one week only (except perhaps Easter weekend), an effective discount!

The Iron Trust accounts for the last year show expenditure including £6000 purchases of club shares . Those accounts are dated 31.8.24, so it is quite possible that further share purchases have happened since then.

That they have not yet been properly registered is not the Trust’s fault.

Realised that reading back the thread afterwards.

The Trust shares total 562 according to SYI, I have tried finding the shareholders list but am having no joy!

I probably wasn’t as clear as I should’ve been; it’s shareholding number 562 on the list, which at the time of publication (1.2.25) was 50 £20 shares. I can only imagine any further purchases are yet to be formalised, even if the Board has agreed to their sale.

Detail is on the Confirmation Statement which can be found be searching Beta Companies House under the Filing History for Scunthorpe United. The link I tried to attach was so long I didn’t bother!

Just gone through the latest shareholders list and can’t see any held by the iron trust unless I’ve missed them (there were 52 pages)

Anyone any idea under which name they go under on that list.

    Iron Trust – Shareholding 562

Anyone know what happened to the shares owned by the now defunct Official Supporters Club?

At the time of the last set of accounts, there were 8.9m shares.

Once Swann had more than 75% of them, which he achieved by converting loans into shares, he cancelled AGMs, as he was allowed to do. He could have forced all shareholders to sell up (as the Glazers did at Man U) once he had 90%+.

Any small shareholding will only ever be symbolic, however meaningful to the individuals and groups holding them, if the major shareholders aren’t willing to engage.

I hold a small number of shares, and am well aware of their worthlessness in reality unless there was a desire amongst major investors to take the club into private ownership (which even Swann avoided, despite his initial hope that every shareholder would donate their shares to him, to “make it easier to dispose of the company” – my first inkling he didn’t necessarily have the club’s interests at heart).

They got promoted the week before at Bournemouth, and clinched the championship at the OSG that day with six games to spare. Understandable that he’d want to be there, even if it is the only time he’s been to Scunthorpe to watch a match.

For anybody interested (which I appreciate might be very niche on this board), Peterborough Council has been under no overall control since 2019. This link confirms the recent position:

I wouldn’t get too excited about a sell-on, given these are usually based on the profit made on a sale.

If this article is true, there’s no profit, nor indeed if the rumoured fee at the time (half that reported here) is correct.

Was that the, shouldn’t really mention his name, Darren Deadman game?

It was indeed. It never has come out why he was dropped as a ref, though incompetence must be a possibility regardless of the insinuations in the article.

Coote is back as a ‘top ref’ now but I haven’t heard anything of Deadman for a long time…

I decided not to invest and thankfully my daughter heeded my advice and also did the same.

If i had decided to go ahead then i would be working with others in the same boat to form group sponsored legal team to challenge WHAM for a refund.. Dodgy Dave as the labour MP Denis Skinner once called out in the HOP.

    Why?

The 1899 membership (joining a club, and not ‘investing’ into anything) was explicitly sold by the club, having been advertised on the club website and sold via the club commercial department. It clearly doesn’t represent investment into SUFC (1899) Ltd., as membership only provides the opportunity to buy into SUFC (1899].

The fact that the previous chairman was chairman at the time doesn’t give him personal liability for the transaction under company law (which provides limited liability for shareholders), though he could potentially be found to have been in breach of his fiduciary duties as a director towards shareholders by not acting in the best interests of shareholders in introducing the scheme.

Until this is proven, I can’t see how he is personally liable, nor why 1899/100 club members would need to be in contact with anyone other than the club. The club’s actions in reaching out to those members suggests this is the case, and also that the club will be trying to negotiate its way out of the liabilities they have been left with by the promises made under the membership scheme.

The only people in a direct relationship with the former chairman under this scheme would be any (if there are any) who paid their optional £1 to invest into SUFC (1899) Ltd., and with limited liability they’re not going to be sustaining a substantial loss given the share purchase price.

All these extremely naive people who invested money into the scheme, invested into SUFC (1988) LTD, a company solely owned by David Hilton, a sole trader and Director, they did not invest in any company associated with Scunthorpe United Football Club.
They have no claim legally against the club. The claim is against the owner of the company they invested in, that company is still trading and a simple google search will point them in the direction.

They didn’t. It was advertised via the club, with enquiries to be addressed to the club. One of the benefits was an opportunity to buy a share in SUFC (1899) Ltd.

    https://www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk/news/2023/february/fan-stadium-ownership-opportunity–lifetime-1899-membership-package/

I didn’t buy one, but those that did are not as naive as you’re claiming, despite buying into something that would have no value should the club go into administration.

Without having looked into the terms and conditions in any detail, nor being a lawyer of any sort, I’d imagine they have a legally binding contract with the club at this point.
