Prediction for tonight
IFA is going for an entertaining game with a few goals … so 3-2 either way HOPEFULLY TO SCUNNY
February 17, 2026 at 9:37 am #3164281000+ going tonight a bloody good turn out, I’ve never seen us win at Rochdale plenty of draws and defeats about time that was remedied here’s hoping.
I at least expect them to turn up and put a performance in, years ago that would be a given but nowadays not so much.1 user thanked author for this post.

Remember a few night matches at Scotland in the 80s. Rum do’s they were.
February 17, 2026 at 1:18 pm #316434Depends on what team Butler picks and more importantly what positions he plays the players in.
Need JB back desperately, and Dec Howe !!February 17, 2026 at 2:11 pm #316435After last Saturday’s absolute horror show, I’m hoping AB has spent the last two days drilling into the lads the revolutionary concept of defending. Because whatever that was against Boston, it sure wasn’t football defending!
Every time Boston came forward we looked like we’d just met each other in the car park five minutes before kick-off. No shape, no communication, no urgency, just a lot of pointing, backing off, and hoping someone else might fancy doing a bit of defending. I’ve seen more resistance from a queue at Greggs. The back line parted so easily I thought there might’ve been a fire drill. Runners not tracked, space everywhere, and marking apparently optional. If goals conceded were loyalty points, we’d have earned a free toaster by half-time.
So yeah, after that mess, you’d hope for a reaction. Nothing fancy, just the basics: stay switched on, stop backing off like we’re scared of contact, and maybe, just a wild idea, don’t gift wrap chances for the opposition. If we can manage that, we might actually look like a football team again.
Rochdale away will be far from a stroll, and let’s be honest, nobody outside Scunthorpe are expecting much. But football does throw up the odd smash-and-grab, and if we remember how to defend like grown adults instead of decorative training cones, there’s a result there to be nicked.
Trying to be optimistic: Rochdale 1 – 2 Scunthorpe
Scrappy, nerve-shredding, backs to the wall performance, but with actual defending this time.

If you’re going to Scotland Deerey then you’re asking for trouble!

February 17, 2026 at 3:11 pm #316439Looking forward to seeing how the hybrid pitch is holding up, played 6 games in 18 days on it, 3 of them within 5 days and one being a rugby league game.
They say you’ll see lines where it’s been rolled out til the grass take properly in the spring.February 17, 2026 at 4:28 pm #316440If we can go back to the performance shown at Boreham Wood away then we’ve got every chance of getting a result. Play anything like we have since that night and Rochdale’s goal difference will probably increase significantly.

February 17, 2026 at 10:11 pm #316451Yes, had fought point. Disappointed with Dale. Considering the are in the box seat they looked very average.
Once again too many aimless punts forward and misplaced passes.
Not quite sure what happened with their penalty? Did Dieseruvwe touch it?
February 17, 2026 at 10:12 pm #316452Considering the doom and gloom on here a point away to a team who’s flying isnt bad

February 17, 2026 at 10:51 pm #316454Bringing Beestin back made the difference for me and CMC, comment on football not about 50s dead film stars..
We can beat Rochdale at home, they looked nothing to worry about, a good defensive performance.
Just need to win at Aldershot, get that 3rd place.February 18, 2026 at 1:14 am #316455Yes, had fought point. Disappointed with Dale. Considering the are in the box seat they looked very average.

No – he ran up to the ball and then stopped followed by turning away from the ball thinking he could then go again. But you are no longer allowed that run in and stop momentarily. So Rory claimed a free kick.

Average? Apart from adding the final touch to score more goals, I thought they were excellent. Passed it around like Man City and only resolute, dogged defending kept them at bay. Disappointed with our lack of threat but impressed with our back line and Beestin getting stuck in to challenges, closing them down and putting themselves on the line with a ton of blocks in the second half. Mahady possibly man of the match for me. Confident, assured, excellent positioning and catching. Distribution was poor at times but did what’s expected.

Wonder if Drysdale would have given the free kick had Mahady not remonstrated? He probably would have but hats off to Mahady for his rules ken.
February 18, 2026 at 7:26 am #316459MY mate watching online though he touched the ball walking which would certainly have resulted in an indirect freekick for kicking the ball backwards ,not sure about the booking
February 18, 2026 at 7:59 am #316460Nice helping hand from Mark Beck as well scoring the winner against Halifax.
February 18, 2026 at 8:15 am #316461Rochdale’s forward movement, from about 20 yards in front of our box, was excellent. They made so much space. It took more than a bit of tracking from CM to take out most of the sting.
They were aided by defenders who looked like defenders and a certain goalie who now seems to be getting very comfortable at plucking the ball out of the air in and around the 6 yard box.4 users thanked author for this post.
February 18, 2026 at 9:28 am #316462A “lucky” point? Probably but well deserved IMO.I certainly don’t get the Rochdale “bang average” view, I thought they were excellent apart from finishing. Some of their passing in the attacking third was superb, incisive and accurate. They rarely surrendered possession, something we did regularly, our passing is woeful at times.Second half was not easy to watch from our point of view, possession 80/20 might be generous to us?
February 18, 2026 at 10:25 am #316463An absolutely heroic, backs-to-the-wall defensive masterclass in the second half. Rochdale launched attack after attack, but the lads dug in and guarded that goal like a fat kid protecting the last biscuit in the tin; elbows out, no mercy, and absolutely no intention of sharing.
In the end, a brilliant, hard-earned point against what looks like the best team in the division.
