    Loans?
You mean players of whom the majority won’t be all that bothered?
Loan players have to be known really well by the management team as to their potential attitude and dedication to the cause.
(Alternatively, we can get people who have been recommended by their own, wholly unbiased agent!)
Punctuated by a very small handful of super-loanees, over years we have had shedloads of dross.
These players do not come for free. Many will be out-earning the average salary by quite a lot.
The bog standard ones which are loaned as a favour may be cheap but ,,,

I have stated more than once that we need a number of players of exactly this type to stop the appalling slide which has been allowed to happen.
Caring signings with guts will bring the best out of the plodders and the continuity players.
Even so, one signing does not make a summer.

    Yeah.
I knew Jack very well. As a teenager he gave me lifts to the OSG from Burton for a good few years. His wife was delightful.
As I understand, he contracted dementia. Tragic!
    Top man!

    Tom Lees?
Can we stretch to an ‘S’ – it’s only makes the same length as Hall?

To my financial guesswork above – perhaps we should also be brokering in the fees received from Grimsby and Celtic.

Maybe a very exacting month ahead.

I thought I knew a little bit about the modern game but seemingly – I don’t.
I’ve watched the National League playoff finals and have learned a great deal.
    Apparently:
Playing a high line after you have scored is actually allowed. Who knew?
Accurate passing is, apparently, not an inappropriate way of playing. Hmm.
Moving into space to provide an outlet is used heavily in the NL. Sound plan.
Giving space to forwards in and around your own penalty box is frowned upon.
Playing the ball regularly into the opposition box out of reach of the GK may be attempted as a tactic.
Getting shots on goal is considered desirable.

I know that I’d seen all of this employed by the opposition when the Iron were playing but was unaware that we were allowed to do these things too. I really must be kept better informed.

I really must apologise for having written on Bru when I knew so little about how the game can be played.

Did anybody else know about these things?

Sorry to break up an interesting discussion.

At this point, I have identified just 35 signings made by League Two teams.
That is approximately 1.5 per club.

So we are not too far behind but we need rather more vacancies filled than most of the others.

Surely the wages of Olomola, Bedeau and Kev must have wiped out the 250k shortfall in budget for this season – and with change!

Money saved on Russ, McGahey and another 14 players must surely cover decent wages for 8 to 10 decentish players. Mustn’t it?

    If not – WHY NOT?

Olomola came here on BIG wages, I understand.
Still. We got VFM. So all is well.

Considering Scotch on a budget – so many are really poor.(Happily, I do actually have some better ones stashed away.)
Aldi Speyside Glen Marnoch at £16-49 is very drinkable.
The other two in that series are pretty ordinary.

Good news is that Asda often sells Bushmills at £16 which is the best bargain I know.

Still, not all palates are the same. My wife got me a tot of something nice after an ice cream. I struggled to recognise it at all.

Preferences vary – as indeed they should.

Yup. Irish better value for the good stuff, IA. Triple distilled.
Good scotch is far more pricey yet only Double Distilled.

Am on Warfarin so restricted to 2 singles a day.

Have big birthday coming up – some bottles of really good stuff a strong possibility.

Hippo gets far more stick on here than he deserves. He is no world-beater but he tries – which is lot more than many did last season.

We know that Jarvis was a longshot with his record but he was playing when the team we were putting out was an undiluted horror. I recall him taking a couple of goals well and frankly – have we really seen enough to judge yet?
If we put out a greatly improved team – let us say one which rises to the dizzy heights of one notch up from mediocre – perhaps we will see the best of him.

As for MacAtee – he needs to leave for both his own sake and for the club. I actually wonder if we had guessed he would inevitably follow Hurst and consequently made him a contract offer just to get a few bob back from the Cods.
I reckon that Hurst will again bring out the best in him. There is a seriously good player in there. Is there any reason why we cannot have a sell-on clause too?

Peter Foley at Belle Vue Donny end of the 60s. (68?)
Ball crossed in around the penalty spot, he rose like a salmon (so high that he must have been dizzy) and it hammered past the GK off his forehead.
Had his moments dribbling but, as far as I recall, this was the only time I saw him head a ball.

Belper boss delighted to land ‘obscene’ striker Jonny Margetts

Oodles of goals all over non-league. Only allowed 2 appearances for us. Quite possibly not good enough at league level – but how would we know?

Just watched Notts Co beat Chesterfield.
Both sides had more about them than the sides we were putting out last season.
Cracking forward at Notts Co grabbed a brace – Kyle someone or other.

GK Sam mixed performance but commanded his box far better than ever seen before.

Well, AWG – it is reported that Mansfield have signed that Cod ‘ed CB. There are a dozen or more others spread around Leagues 1 & 2 which have been reported.
Maybe all our signings are actually in place and will simply be announced together on the 9th.

My understanding is that £1.25 million was reducing to £1million.
Clearing out 17 might suggest that the club is starting afresh, Alcy.’Get in on the ground floor!’

Whoever this new batch is – we should soon know for sure whether it has been the club or the players signed responsible for such a dire injury record.
One thought. If we have a reasonably fit squad without too many injuries – we are probably no worse off on £1million than we were on £1.25.

Paying double the League Two going rate has to attract some decent players. A pretty good teacher, I once taught in a good comprehensive but would have soon gone to a poor one for double the salary.
£80k has to be attractive in that division. Often it is down to who you know. There’ll be more than a few who’ll come, rightly or not, because they want to work alongside Cox.

So, how many on here have:
Not bought a season ticket who usually do?
    Bought one but don’t normally?
Are waiting to see what the signings look like?
Have sworn never to buy one again and are not just blowing off steam?

Have any stopped being supporters altogether?
Are any wondering whether or not they can still be bovvered?
Are there some who promise themselves go on an occasional basis from now on when they were previously regulars?

Are some going to attend as normal?

    LOANS.
Oh. That really scares me. The club needs a whole new way of seeking out loan signings – only two real good uns in five years!

On that thought, we appear to have missed out on Cordner. Sarfend got in there first. I am gutted.
