It’s always better to be at the bottom at the start of the season, Mick.
Super display by GK – just one intcy wintcy problem …
9 for Onariase for intelligence, presence and leadership. We have, at last, got a viable skipper.
8s for Beestin and Taylor who finally showed a bit of class.
No 5s, today.
O’Malley played really well 7.
Green – 6 or 7.
A tad ironic but most enjoyable game for any passing neutral.
Spence probably lost his first team place this afternoon.
Playing attacking football looks to be a much better bet than not bothering to get the ball into the opposition box.
Rest were 6s for me
How on earth is the match still on?
Still. I like cricket and high scoring matches.
On the bright side – this could lull Exeter into a false sense of security.
I said before. Cordner had a spell at Cheltenham looking decent at RB. (Unless he was just there covering the mistakes of others, of course.)
Play 4 – 4 – 2 with Onariase and Bedeau together.
Jai Rowe’s experience is minimal at this level. Cordner has games under his belt. He looked to me quite capable of being an RB.
I know. Potentially another square peg, maybe, but if he were to do a lot more good there than Hornshaw …
As for CM – Hornshaw has recent match experience and his actual area of playing strength now has a vacancy. That said, I’d try Beestin first.
There’s often an opt out built in for January in contracts.
A squad size which is not at all desirable for a small club. Too cumbersome, by far.
But if BI66 is correct with the ‘three in for Colclough’ idea – which he almost certainly will be – that is the price of experienced players in our Brave New Covid World.
I’ll wager there’s a hefty few of the far less experienced on between £20 – £30k a year. Financially this may be sustainable if we eventually get crowds in.
Now down to just 3 big earners, I’d say: Olomola, McGahey & KVV.
Bench.
Beestin?
Fans tended to feel pretty comfortable with him between the sticks down the road from me in Sheffield.
I’m on the look out for my next door – Blades fan – neighbour, for an outdoor chilly chat.Sadly, I feel that we have chucked away unnecessary points by leaving this signing so late but we are now that one player away from having a realistic squad which can avoid the drop.
Yet again the football knowledge on this board should be considered as a mega resource for the club.
True, BS.
He is showing precious little bottle.Cordner seemed to be covering RB to an extent, at least, after Hornshaw went off. Looked so much better.
Play him there on Saturday, Bedeau to CB – 4 at the back. Still begs the question as to what we do with LB.
Butroid or O Malley and bring Junior on second half to get 40 minutes or so?I actually cheered last night when Rory explained why you leave a man on the halfway line when back defending. Fallon for manager?
I do not see how people can say ‘had an average game’ and then give a 5 which represents a notch below average. A fair few have done this over recent games.
People are too cavalier with their marks – there is far too much gut reaction.
Most marks will be between 5 and 7 in any game. Below par, average, above average.
If everyone gets a 5 – you’d lose any game – and often by quite a margin.Take Hornshaw, last night – got a lot wrong you can justify a 4 but he was trying hard so can hardly go lower.
Is that all?
The standards of criticism on Bru at the moment are so often excellen.t
Consider the four posts above this one – all are logical and well-argued.
There seem to be fewer on here just ranting than has been the case in the past.
We get better – the team gets worse.Interesting that our rivals think that it is necessary to have a second keeper of Joe’s quality but we don’t rate the idea of having a first GK as good as him.
Do these players ‘still have the legs’?
That is something few of us can know for sure.I disagree with NI. It’s longer than 3 years.
Well argued, sir!
Sorry.
I didn’t understand the title. To be fair, we are rushing to judge some of these players a bit too harshly.
A few weeks ago, the team was attempting to play football and trying really hard for 90+ minutes. Rather lacking in goal attempts and pretty lightweight but not actually terrible. With youngsters – a couple of defeats is all it takes for some heads to go down. But TBH there is a difference between that and a few throwing in the sponge. Some of these do really need to go. Now.
At this rate, relegation is a stone cold certainty.
A couple of old (preferably fit) heads can transform this lot. A new GK is an absolute must and this has been clear for many a month.Learning from Cox how hard the Chairman tried on deadline day does not impress.
Agree with your two for the GK, DSGM, three marks off for a goal like that. 5 – 3 = 2.
Would give 6 to Spence, Jarvis and Gilliead – otherwise, spot on!It was only nine goals conceded in the two consecutive home games.
Is this a record?
I recall losing to Wigan at the OSG with 7 conceded, I think. I do not recall us letting in three in either of the surrounding games to beat the glamour of today.
Two let in in either of those games would have equalled the dazzling record set on this glorious footballing occasion.I am trying to train myself into caring less than I do.
It’s going tolerably well. I divert myself into other things.I can’t quite put my finger on what and where it is going pear shaped but both FBs are getting badly mauled under the present system. Indisputable fact.
If it’s a one on one – the FB must shoulder any blame – but more often than not, it isn’t.
When it is two against one or three against two … The fact that the the FBs are inexperienced is just one more factor in this unfortunate mix.I suspect that the crux of the matter is that the CBs have got so much on their own plate to cope with that they aren’t able to take any sort of broader view of what is happening.
I really like O Malley – he’ll be a good un. Hornshaw might well be too but it certainly ain’t gonna be at RB!
What is this big thing about not playing Onariase? – He’s been on the bench for a long time so must be assumed fit.
Is it the same thing with Cox that we’ve seen where MacAtee and Eisa are concerned?
The bits we’ve seen of the guy make him look pretty good.It might be worth a shot finding out if playing him alongside Cordner would get the best out of him. If we were to do that as a trial, the more experienced Bedeau could take over at LB if required but RB has been exposed far more from what I’ve seen and is the greater problem.
How do we get from the reasoned, general opinion that the team needs a proper spine to ensure younger players develop to – the apparently general opinion that most of our signings are not up to it?
The answer is probably the lack of entertainment combined with extreme frustration. But it is just not so.
KVV + Onariase + McGahey back in the team alongside a GK + an old hand CM general and this team has real potential – IF played properly. (I have allowed for Clarke not being available.)
Even without any further new signings – that really should be sufficient to achieve safety with a degree of comfort if we actually play to our strengths.
That’s easily explainable, BLT, there hasn’t been a game you could have reasonably enjoyed.
Spot on, WG.
It would be interesting to compare Beestin, Spence, Hippolyte, Vincent, Taylor with the Levi who is not getting appearances at Bradford.
I’ll say again that I reckon that these lads would come good playing off an experienced man.
They are not poor players, as such.October 12, 2020 at 10:11 am in reply to: The Lineup I’d Like To See. (Or something pretty close.) #195728Yes, Ferrite. That’s why my first line echoed your sentiment.
If I thought we could get thirty games out of Bish in a season – I’d have him back like a shot at 39. He only managed 23 in his last season at Mansfield, though. Niggling injuries for the most part, I understand. Sigh.
After all, Tony Ford and Beags were great older players for us as total professionals.
October 12, 2020 at 8:45 am in reply to: The Lineup I’d Like To See. (Or something pretty close.) #195724Not totally, Ferrite. There remain one or two other relatively minor matters still to be addressed.
Since Bishop’s departure – I have argued in posts, several times a season, that we need a ‘catalyst player’. Call him ‘a leader in the middle of the pitch’ or maybe even a ‘play-maker.’
The titles do not matter. So many on here have argued that you can use younger players provided that the side has a spine. Well, ours doesn’t!
CBs and KVV – fit – then fine but that glaring hole in the middle of the park …
