Isn’t Jarvis still unfit? Whatever, one game in and the injuries we have struggled with over several seasons are back to haunt us already, quite unbelievable and would be bad enough in a bigger well balanced squad but with the current limitations, yep it’s not looking great.

As usual UTI would rather play club sycophant then see the bigger picture, it’s very sad but I guess predictable.

Read it again Ferrite, I said his weakness was cross shots like the second goal which 75% beat him, it was DarrynStampGoalMachine who said his weakness was parrying shots straight back to the forward instead of away from goal

Except it wasn’t a straight foreward cross shot just blasted in with power mick, it had a lovely subtle bend on it that went inside the far post, it was a cracking finish. The new lad would not have got near it either IMO and I and others in the East Stand had the best view in the entire ground, so thats what i’m basing my reply on. Not saying Rory hasn’t got a weakness on cross shots but Swindon’s second was more then that.

I’m sure the club’s PR team were furious Ferrite but would they dare tell him?

Ask the CEO or grounds maintenance team?

Well now the matter has been raised live on the podcast maybe the Chairman will have the good grace to raise the matter with the relevant people himself. After all he is meant to care and we already know he can laugh things off but perhaps he may actually do something positive now this matter has been discussed with him.

Wonder if Swann was even there yesterday?, yep the ground is in a right old state but countless lower league clubs will be in the same boat, be interesting what those travelling to Rochdale next week have to say on the state of Spotland.

    So….
If Swindon had five players two weeks ago, how did they manage to sign better players than we did in six weeks?

Come on alcy get your head out your arse, the new guy at Swindon will have bunged a lot of money into the squad really quickly whereas we have the lowest budget in the division. Do you spend all day sleeping in that bloody shed, waking up occasionally to post crap for the sake of it? Wake up man.

    Bit harsh.
Unlike some on here i dont have the time (or inclination) to follow the fortunes of every club.
So much so that when England play, I have very little idea as to who the players are, or who their parent clubs are…unless I watch with my youngest.

But don’t let any of that deny you a chance at a rant, or an insult or two.

    [/quo
Don’t worry I wont, you know the position of the club budget wise and you basically rehash the same old tripe to come on here and say the same thing. We get it you want Swann gone along with a few more of us but just do a bit of research before posting the same old bilge and as for the current squad, yes they lack quality but the effort of the team yesterday was commendable compared to last season and over the season they will be better to watch at least from that point of view. To compare a relegated club, however a dire position they were in up until recently, with our threadbare squad backed with the smallest budget in the Football league is just plain stupid, so deal with it because sometimes you get what your stupidity deserves.

The cross shot mick keeps referring to was a nice shot that curled in the far post, cracking goal not a straightforward drive across the goal, I observed from the east stand, right behind the scorer. Top finish TBF, Rory no chance.

Those drains have been blocked for several seasons now and is just another indicator of how little the Chairman is bothered in general. Actually when I went to pick up my ticket for the game a few days back there were a group of guys working on the drains but obviously it’s a bigger problem that needs resolving. Perhaps an over abundance of shit in the board room could be the answer.

I think your appraisal of the new players after just one league game is more then a tad harsh Brian but your entitled to your opinion, see if you think the same after fifteen games.

Agree about Pugh les he cost us today but he will get better overtime, the team.in general a work in progress, Davis and Taft look good and Thompson and O’malley will fight over that left back slot but we are still a few players short plus we picked up a couple of injuries in the first game FFS. Kenyon looks a bit leaden footed in midfield and we deffo lack a creative spark in there, Bunn looks a good signing and fair play to Loft for his battling qualities but he needs help up front. Keeper looked ok till injured but I wouldn’t blame Watson for any of the goals, we were a bit naive at times but it’s early days.

Very disillusioned with everything that’s been going on the past few years but I’m a glutton for punishment so will be making the 420 mile round trip tomorrow…and actually looking forward to it. I’m sure I’ll be regretting the decision when we’re 2-0 down within 30 minutes.

That’s the spirit BLT I admire your enthusiasm, I’m very much of a similar opinion to yourself but thankfully my round trip is a mere 7 miles. Makes losing a bit more bearable as good home made grub and copious amounts of alcohol are close at hand.

You would think it was Cox by the way he speaks about the recent signings, knowing about them for a while, seen them playing elsewhere etc etc, unless that’s just “par for the course managerial speak” when a new player signs. I would hope it’s not that and Cox has had the major say on these new players, it’s about time a Scunthorpe manager had his authority backed by the board, he’s the professional in these matters not them.

Chris Iwelumo signing for the Iron as a footballer then proceeding to impersonate a tree every time he played for us, that was pretty funny.

That’s does hint mick at a counter attacking style which results in said team having to soak up pressure and cough up the lions share of possession.

I’d much rather we stayed resolute and actually tried to score. If Cox opts for last seasons bullshit, I expect him to be sacked pretty sharpish.

Don’t think the sacking game is part of the plan nowadays WG. If you throw a lot of money at something and things ( due mainly to the chairman’s ego IMO ) don’t go your way as fast as you like, then the sack comes. When you have the lowest budget in the league and are looking just to tick over on reduced gates to just about break even, then sacking managers, paying up contracts and spending money you don’t want to on a replacement staff is low on the priorities list. Unless we are rock bottom and adrift by Xmas things won’t change and even then the chairman has the ground in his pocket now, he won’t rush to spend anymore then he has too. Don’t forget, fans are not a priority in the world of the redevelopment business. If we are shit, tough, that’s how it’s going to stay.

It’s such a shame for the game after all the work put in over the last year or so with taking the knee, the reaction of the England team in the Bulgaria match, the work by the football authorities and of course the unity of the vast majority of professional players to get the anti racism message across that these young men should behave like this, it’s very disappointing. Whether the authorities give them another chance of not it’s going to be very difficult for these young guys for a good while I’m guessing. As Ferrite states it’s not easy either way but what saddens me is the type of family environment these young guys grew up in to start thinking like this, it’s not just happened in the last two years surely?

Is the pitch that bad SST?, well usually it’s in great nick come the new season so what is that all about, don’t say we are penny pinching on pitch standards now, if so that’s not conducive to good passing football that Cox says he is trying to get his players doing. As a matter of interest what sort of crowd was there and are players still taking the knee before kick off?

Yep and unfortunately it’s not a player Cass as we keep getting reminded several times a season.

Used to watch Countdown everyday les to keep the grey matter ticking along but have abandoned it since the odious Anne Robinson took over from Nick Hewer, I gave her a fortnight but no thanks she has ruined it for me. Her barbed remarks to contestants and constant rabbiting on about rubbish in general and her me me me attitude has fecked it up IMO might as well let alcy take over if it’s a moaning rabbiting mini me you want in charge. Terrible.

I guess club away coach travel will be hit and miss this season ( deffo a miss for me ) but Staffy was a main organiser and invariably headed a coach most away weeks. Wonder where all that will fit in over the next nine months or so?
