Didn’t Howard recommend Karacan? Could be we need to sign both or get neither, sign one get one cheap?

More likely to get 3 draws than 1 win, I’m sure that will be the manager’s plan.

Ferrite wrote:- “That’s all very well but what happens when you change the manager? Do you have to sign a whole new squad for them?”

That’s what normally happens, surely you have to support the current manager and, to my mind, that has to mean he has input into signings. (It helps if the manager stays long enough to cover a players 2 year contract of course.)

Could be a bit of smoke & mirrors. Saying he’ll pick him but then not doing so will make the culprit more difficult to identify. The only problem with that is that it will make Cox look a bit of a k*** in supporters eyes as we all know that whoever it is shouldn’t be picked again. Doubt it will improve his relationship with players either.

I hope those who let the side down badly on Tues have been fined accordingly.

Bloody hell vader, if we were allowed to fine players for being crap most of ours would be owing the club thousands.

I like Loft, I think used properly (i.e. not a lone striker) he’s plenty good enough and can improve. Jarvis still has plenty to prove, Mooney only got a year but a 2 year deal for Turan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Watson
    Rowe Barks Taft O’Malley
    Gilliead Karacan Spence Hippolyte
    Beestin
    Jessop/Dawson

A few OOC out of necessity but the majority that should care about next season.

I have no problem with a manager being denied a player he would like for reasons probably financial, it’s not unreasonable for the chairman to have the final say in this. I do, however, have a major problem with a manager being given a player he doesn’t want, chosen by somebody else and possibly one he doesn’t even know.

Don’t contracts normally run until the end of June? If so it will be difficult to assemble the squad by the end of May.

Just had a look at the stats for some of our OOC players.
    Starts Goals Assists
    Gilliead 38 1 4
    McGahey 12 – –
    KVV 11 1 3
    Eisa 25 8 3
    Clarke 21 1 –
    McAtee 10 1 2
    Hallam 3 2 –
    Olomola 0 – –

Now if you were a L1 or L2 manager looking to improve your squad which of those would you be rushing to sign based on those stats? (Accepting the lies, damn lies and statistics argument of course) I’m with those that think if they’re not going to be here next season then don’t give them the opprtunity to improve their stats even if they’re capable of doing so. Let’s look towards next season now.

He’ll have to be allowed to bring some in otherwise we won’t be able to field a team. His problem will be trying to attract anybody decent to little old Scunny. Let’s look at what has made us attractive to players in recent seasons:-
Wages apparently at top end L1/2 level – Gone
Playing in a brand new stadium – Gone
Playing in a L1 side pushing for the Championship – Gone
Playing attractive attacking football – Long Gone
So what do we have left to bring in the quality of player we need and retain the bit of quality we already have? Over to you Mr Chairman.

“We’ve done really well this year by sitting in and playing counter-attacking football” – WHAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!
If he thinks that then we might have a big problem in the future.

I disagree. This is a piss-poor squad and to get us to safety long before the end of the season is a great achievement given what he’s got to work with. It’s not been pretty, it has been effective enough to get the job done.

Fair enough to disagree and, don’t get me wrong, I’m delighted we look like surviving in L2. I just think “We’ve done really well” is pushing things just too far. ‘We’ve done OK sometimes’ would have been closer to the truth.

“surely it needs to be a priority to expand that supporter base?”

You’d think so wouldn’t you, it seems like a sensible business plan to increase revenue and help secure the future. I’m not sure that everybody sees it that way, only happy clappers and non-critics welcome.

Are there signs that he is learning?
“Scunthorpe United boss Neil Cox has accused his players of not being good enough, and has questioned whether some of them even care about playing.”
Well done Neil but a lot of people had realised this well before Christmas!
” went on to slam his players for what he perceived as them being “unprofessional” and “naïve”. – correct.
“When we get to the final third, we’ve been poor” – correct again.
“They don’t know what they’re doing” – right again.
““I don’t think they’re good enough at times to be honest. That’s probably the big thing.” – No argument there.
But just when you think he’s finally getting to grips with the situation he gets delusional again:-

“We’ve done really well this year by sitting in and playing counter-attacking football” – WHAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!
If he thinks that then we might have a big problem in the future.

They obviously haven’t shown that the defensive aspect of their game is good enough. Probably Dawson can’t defend corners and that’s what’s holding him back.

Maybe Hornshaw again for the first 10 games until we decide (again) that it’s not the answer.

Maybe we have been advised that Howe will be available in the summer. I think Rowe is OOC (with no information on a new contract offer) and the manager might be having a good look before making his choice. Taft’s loan was made permanent after a few games, this could be similar.

We don’t have a great record recently of giving our youngsters much of a chance at first team level on a regular basis. (There are those that think Godden and Wootton weren’t even though they had 5 years to prove themselves) If Dawson is going to get the same treatment then the answer is obvious – SELL. The alternative of course is to give him game time in the remaining matches and I don’t mean 10 meaningless minutes at the end of a game. Players of a similar age have made their debuts at a much higher level than lower L2 after all.

Could be that some of them are giving 120% in training and have nothing left for match day.
    Or maybe not.

Having read the managers injury update I’d be tempted to go low risk and play 11 who are definitely 100%.
    Watson
    Howe Rowe Bedeau O’Malley
    Gilliead Karacan Spence Eisa
    McAtee Olomola
Subs:- Beestin, Hippo and some of the U23s
No good risking KVV, Taft, Green, Loft etc being out for the season. Reading between the lines it’s probably not a game Cox is ‘targetting’ for a win anyway.
” They’re a good side, have a lot of experience and are up there pushing for automatic promotion. We know it will be a tough test but it’s about what we do. We have to better in the final third.”

We’ve had this discussion before UTI. Most business owners welcome valid criticism and use the information to improve their offering to the public. Nobody gets everything right all the time but to continue to get things so wrong is likely to give you the opportunity to stand or sit alone.

No real surprise, thinking about it we know about Howard, McGahey, Taft, Brown and KVV. Green came off on Tuesday so presumably he’s number 6.

Not many managers would be brave enough to sub off your top goalscorer at 2-0 down would they? 2-0 down, half an hour left and we never had another shot at goal. Unbelievable Jeff!
