It’s a mistake, a big mistake, if you keep doing the same thing, watching it fail and then repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. There’s a famous quote expressing this but I’m not bright enough to know who it was that said it. Playing Loft up front alone is a mistake, we all know that but he keeps doing it.

“Even sat in the warmth of my living room with a nice Rioja in my hand.”

Something that Mr Swann should make available at the kiosk then for the discerning supporter?

Never been possible to watch from the comfort of your own home though NI. Just pointing out what Mr Swann is up against, some of those things he has the power to change. Can he also force some change in the crap football, that’s the same whether it’s on t’internet or live at the ground and that, as you say, could be the most important.

Takes less time, no extra half hour to leave the ground
Food & drink cheaper and always in stock and ready, no queue
    Toilets don’t smell

The Big Return – mmmmmmmmmmmm not sure.

The 6 playing slightly in front of the back 4, 3 of whom are occasionally to be seen in the opposition half.

Two shots though they were both on target in 94 minutes.

But both from defenders, meaning our front 6 haven’t had an effort on target for over 180 minutes. Too busy defending I suppose.

I can’t give you half a ‘Thanks’ les. I agree with all you say about Loft, why can’t Cox see that he doesn’t work as a lone striker. Is he a Covid carrier that the other players have been told a 10 metre social distance is advisable?
However Wootton a potential L1 player – I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Come on lads, be fair. Cox had a 50% success rate last night, he got the nil that he set up to get.

Setting up for a 0-0 with Watson in goal doesn’t sound like much of a plan to me.

A terrible habit introduced by George Kerr who thought his anecdotes were more interesting than the onfield action. ( Now if he’d still been on-air this season he might have had a point!)

Loft, KDT and Jarvis contracted for next season. KVV, Olomola and Mooney OOC. So we start with 1 inconsistent, 1 apparently useless and 1 still an unknown quantity. Might be a good place to begin the recruitment.
Before this season Mullin had never reached double figures, doesn’t pay to write players off too early.

Looking at it another way barton, if players know they won’t be getting a new contract here, wouldn’t you think they’d be busting a gut to impress somebody else? The alternative is an end to their pro football career, I know which choice I’d make.

“How many have stuck the knife into loadsa cracking good forwards when we’ve had them, from Torpey to Novak and from Madden to Forrester?”
I’m not sticking the knife into Loft, it’s just my opinion that having watched the games this season he is not good enough.
The 4 you name above were all a long way better than Loft. They all had bad games and loss of form. But I can never remember any of them being “worthy” of a 2 or 3 mark in any game. Loft has on numerous occasions.

Those 4 forwards were all established league footballers when they came here so I think the comparison is a bit unfair. Loft has indeed had some poor games, mainly when he’s been used as a lone striker. I think it’s fair to say that the service to him has been less than satisfactory for most of the season and he’s still learning.

They were the right signings that’s true, they would have been even more right if they’d been signed in the summer instead of some of the dross we got.
Unfair on Loft to lump him with some of the duds IMO, wasn’t he a shoe in for Player of the Season a few weeks ago?

BTW what’s happened to Beestin – looks like a pub league player

Yet he’s still getting picked before Spence who was MOM last time he started.
Another clue as to why things are not quite right on the pitch?

Au contraire Rodney I suspect there will be a significant number of L1 and L2 players released or offered much reduced contracts who will be available to us. It’s not just us, everybody will be operating on vastly reduced budgets and players will have to appreciate that if they want to continue as pro footballers.

I’m still a fan of picking your best 10 outfield players and playing a system that suits them rather than having a system and trying to fit players into it.

Whose fault is it that Howard, Taft, Karacan and Brown (or their equivalent) weren’t here at the start of the season?
Who is taking the Mick? Nothing but facts and valid opinions as far as I can see.

Apologies for repeating what I said on another thread but much depends on what motivates a player. If it’s purely money then undoubtedly we’re doomed. Gilliead was not a regular starter for Shrewsbury in L1, has he improved – probably, but standards and aspirations will be higher at Ipswich so will he play regularly? He’s a certain starter here and might(?) be settled so let’s hope we can make him a good enough offer so that regular football tips the balance in our favour. Not holding my breath.

Understandable given the circumstances mentioned, no match, nothing to play for and no transfer window. It doesn’t help that the SUFC Twitter is only interested in selling match passes, replica kits and face masks, personally I’d like to know if Onariase will be fit for Friday and if we’re trying to get any summer OOC players on new contracts which might give us something to talk about. The ongoing lack of any relationship between the Club and the Telegraph means another possible source of information is not available to fans.

Certainly the money will be key and players might have to lower their expectations. Realistically how many of our OOC are capable of playing above L2.(I don’t support the view that we have any Championship quality players – see Charlie Goode for confirmation of what might happen) Consequently they will probably have to rely on one of the “bigger” clubs in L1/L2 (or ambitious NL e.g. Stockport) wanting them to improve on what we are in a position to offer. How many of them are actually as good as their agents think they are? Do they want to play regular football or is the cash more important to them? We know it is to their agent.

Interesting(?) to note that 2 of our stunning loan signings were unused subs in this game between 2 lowly L2 teams. Clearly two more managers that don’t rate them, were they non-managerial signings there as well?

I hope this starts a trend, plenty of Premiership players will be “resting” if it does. I reckon they’ll get it overturned sadly, it wasn’t simulation to win a penalty, just exaggeration.

O’Malley is unavailable for tomorrow due to international call up. (Congratulations BTW young man)
Cox says many of the players are “leggy” after a lot of games in a short period of time.
Wouldn’t it have made sense to play O’Malley on Saturday and play a fresh Brown tomorrow? Just a thought.

I suppose it’s a matter of personal make up I-a. If you take pride in your work then it’s good if you feel your work is appreciated. As you say we’re talking about footballers here who are often praised but seldom criticised publicly except by us “know-it-all experts”. Little wonder they take no notice, but I still think the money issue might make them think a bit whether it’s accurate or not.

Wow, if the players believe anything on this board and take it to heart, they really are stupid.

They should believe lesgeo’s post above and do something about it. Failing to do that would be really stupid.

“Reacting to the penalty incident involving Jordan Clarke, he said: “Jordan has admitted to pushing him,”

It’s very good of Clarke to clear that up as it can’t have been obvious to those watching. Numpty!!

Seemed to me that the players had all read the Bru post revealing their (supposed) wages. Enough of them believed what they saw and showed, in their performances, what they thought. Some of those at the top end who are OOC will have to accept the reality of the situation brought about by Covid and prepare to adjust their lifestyle.
