    14 goals in 5 years

He scored 13 goals last season between Alty and Macc so not sure where you’re getting your figures from.

Why? Can’t work out the question to which his signing is the answer. Am I missing something? Alty let him go in January and he has barely kicked a ball at Macc.

He played 25 times for Macc since January scoring 8 goals. Not exactly an inspiring signing but how does that fit your definition of barely kicking a ball?

Howe – definite upgrade on Boyce.
Ogle – definite upgrade on any other right back on the books.
Brennan – presumably a Roberts replacement but is 100% a left winger.
Richards – no idea of what he’s like vs Westbrooke, can’t really remember him from our games vs Boston.
Hurst – probably the Roberts replacement as he can play right wing, definite downgrade but then who wouldn’t be!
Butterfield – we’ve been crying out for a goal threat and bit of creativity from midfield so he gets a thumbs up from me if he returns…we know what he can deliver. Only needs 3 goals to output more than Ewing did!

Haven’t really seen anything from him yet but surely you can’t play 100 games in League 2 and be crap in the NL?

Hopefully we just haven’t seen the best of him and he proves us all wrong with a full pre-season under his belt and a permanent home.

Disagree there Sanfran, we were in League 1 when they were both released. No way they were good enough for the first team and unsurprisingly found their level in the National League. Howe has played 3 games in the EFL (in League 2) since he left originally which suggests we made the right decision back then.

Great signing for this level though and fully expect him to be named captain!

Wanted it to happen but didn’t think it would…welcome back Callum!

Have we ever had two brothers in the same side before?

They are mentioned in the Facebook posts for both signing announcements so far: “TRANSFER NEWS IS SPONSORED BY THE POTIONS CAULDRON”. None of their branding shown or mentions in the OWS articles though.

Jordan Richards from Boston. Any good?

& Ross Barrows re signed for another season.

Boston fans seem to rate him highly and was their player of the year last season.

Don’t know why we’re bothering with Barrows. 4th choice right back if the Ogle rumours come to fruition.

He played every game for Buxton last season on the left. Jones’ main position is on the left. Smith has only ever really played on the left for us. Hurst played every game bar one for us on the left. Dec and TSF mostly deployed on the left last season. Seems to be a pattern emerging here…?

Agree 100%…and if it is solely a “refreshments break” then refreshments should be brought onto the pitch for players, not the players going to the sideline to have a team talk etc. It just completely spoils the flow of the game.

Sweden look very potent, particularly with Gyokeres and Isak up front. Could be the legitimate dark horse.

Should they even be there? Finished last in their qualifying group without winning a single game!

Nobody mentioning British Steel returning as the front of shirt sponsor. Surely that’s something rather positive to come out of this week?

    Nope, signed for Hartlepool.

Very much doubt you’d get season long loan announcements before teams have even returned back for pre-season.

Westbrooke a bigger loss than Ewing in my opinion (although he wasn’t really ours to lose). We’ve had all this before, our midfield was supposedly doomed after we lost Butterfield but things haven’t turned out too badly since he left.

I think he was a good player for us, I think for a while he changed the dynamic and brought energy that we were missing the previous season, similarly Dec Howe .He was one of our better players over all.

Pre Xmas/New Year, yes 100% agree. After that he looked like he was playing in treacle and chasing shadows. His best game for us was on the opening day of the season away at Tamworth which says a lot!

You say that but who did we actually sign last summer?

Ewing – plucked from Leicester’s youth team with his only real experience being in NLN with Buxton.

Howe – signed from 2 divisions below us.

Dawson – a crock with barely any first team football to his name.

Horton and Belehouan – nobody had heard of them and they weren’t exactly setting the world alight at Gateshead.

Rose – a great signing in hindsight but barely managed 5 games all season.

Chadwick, Eze and Watson – the less said about them the better!

None of these signings particularly got the juices flowing, the best bit of business we did was retaining Roberts for the season. He’s the one who’s going to be nigh on impossible to replace unless we manage to pull a real rabbit out of the hat with our budget. Everyone else we’ve lost so far this summer should be easily replaceable…and that includes Ewing who was chasing shadows for half of the season.

Really disappointing if true and we end up losing one of our better players to a team that finished below us last season.

They’ve both got to sign new contracts first, no confirmation that either of them have.

Playing Beestin in his preferred advanced midfield position will be a good start, he always pops up with important goals and isn’t afraid to shoot.

It comes across as an unnecessary excuse to put the prices up. I say unnecessary because prices NEEDED to go up. In addition to all of the increases to operational costs that Westyorksiron mentions above, we also had the cheapest tickets out of any team who finished in the top 7 last season. If we’re serious about returning to the EFL then we need a bigger budget to remain competitive.

Denton’s got to sign a new contract first. I’d go Evans if he re-signs, was captain when at Chesterfield.
