We were looking good for a win and I was enjoying the game much more then the Swindon encounter, we looked sharp going forward particularly second half and Scrimshaw was excellent, great goal and in their faces the entire game. Then the equaliser, once again Pugh found wanting at wing back/full back and beaten too easily by their winger who provided an easy finish for their forward and then we could have lost it when we should have been already out of sight. Good display by Watson but why oh why can’t we manage a game better when heading for three points? It’s getting better but it’s tedious slow in getting that first win.
Someone to work in tandem with Loft we hope, when Loft is fit of course. What’s this maybe a 4-4-2 coming back to GP?

I love your optimism mick it gladdens the heart. 😂
Well said MK, yep we moan and groan, justifiably, about the current state of the squad and tactics but the last two away results have proved one thing, this squad has balls and the right attitude. Great last couple of results guys, well done 👏👏👏

Very good article and would appear to be a very accurate assessment of where the club and its fans stand at this moment in time. Quite a lot of it has been broadly discussed on this forum over several seasons, so I see no need to question the details. Desperate times indeed for our football club, that’s ” our ” football club, nowt to do with the Prawn he’s just the current owner who will disappear when the time is right for him and that can’t be long now he has acquired the club became of big headed bungling management.

Staffy was a programme seller , turnstile operator , 50-50 tickets etc. Got paid for them all.
Infact he’s been on the Iron payroll in some form since the 60s.
Told he always got free bus travel and free away match ticket.
First time he does not get free travel and ticket he does not go.
Call him a top fan !
The over 400 fans who had to pay for travel and tickets yesterday are top fans not someone who stops going once his freebies are stopped.Remember Staffy just didn’t sit on the bus discussing whatever whilst it reached the away venue. He checked for no alcohol on board before leaving ( the law, not his law and meant all fans on that bus could see the game and not miss it due to a moron, probably one of Awaywego’s mates ). He ran raffles, dispensed drinks and snacks, informed fans about drop off and pick up procedure on the day, dispensed rubbish bags for litter and retrieved them for disposal before the bus went back to its depot, informed fans about next games, old programme sales etc etc.
The rest of us just did what all fans do, discussed the game and life in general, met and got to know like minded folk, stared out the window waiting to arrive or spent endless time on their phones whilst Staffy ran the bus for their benefit. So maybe he did get a free ticket, I don’t know or care because John Staff deserved that at the very least and I wish some folk would be a little more gracious about a really nice bloke who’s heart was in the right place and really loved his football club. Nice one Staffy, well done mate 👏👏👏

Very sad to not see Staffy on the bus or at the match today.
Of course he wasn’t, he would have had to pay! Another freeloader off the books.
That’s rather uncalled for Mick, Staffy started going to Scunny games and selling programmes outside the OSG when he was around 11, he’s the wrong side of seventy now so I don’t think his loyalty is in question TBH. Top bloke Staffy, ” draw tickets “.

Pointless arguing with a Yob DM, too busy looking at their knuckles dragging on the floor, checking how cool they look. Wonder if they lobbed any flares at Rochdale yesterday those wonderful hooligans of ours?

Open Hearth Iron makes some very good points, when the people running the club are doing their job badly, that’s when the club sycophants come alive, they just can’t bear the people they fawn over to be criticised. They are really pathetic but we already know that.
The defence is obviously going to be our main strength this season so well done to Cox for sorting that out, also a welcome clean sheet for Rory which should stop him getting an arse kicking on here tonight. We need that new striker and winger for sure plus something different in midfield to change things around when the manager needs to. If the Coventry lad comes back in a few weeks time I don’t see us needing another keeper option but we need a change of luck with injuries or else it will be very difficult this season. Can’t argue with an away point, we just need more scoring options to grab a few wins, well done guys, good point today.

Or Bobby Grant
Hasn’t Bobby Grant gone back to Brookside working in the factory?
Or you could stand.
That’s isn’t the point Awaywego TBF and you know it. Not all people can or want to stand and that’s why they pay extra for a seat compared to standing. I sit at home games through choice but invariably stand at away games depending on the ticket allocation but some people need to sit every game. Surely the whole point is the ground should be prepared in the correct manner to ensure comfort and cleanliness for all supporters. The club are failing in their duties and are letting their fan base down while expecting people to turn up in numbers to swell the coffers, it’s just bad practice all round from SUFC.

Isn’t Jarvis still unfit? Whatever, one game in and the injuries we have struggled with over several seasons are back to haunt us already, quite unbelievable and would be bad enough in a bigger well balanced squad but with the current limitations, yep it’s not looking great.

As usual UTI would rather play club sycophant then see the bigger picture, it’s very sad but I guess predictable.
Read it again Ferrite, I said his weakness was cross shots like the second goal which 75% beat him, it was DarrynStampGoalMachine who said his weakness was parrying shots straight back to the forward instead of away from goal
Except it wasn’t a straight foreward cross shot just blasted in with power mick, it had a lovely subtle bend on it that went inside the far post, it was a cracking finish. The new lad would not have got near it either IMO and I and others in the East Stand had the best view in the entire ground, so thats what i’m basing my reply on. Not saying Rory hasn’t got a weakness on cross shots but Swindon’s second was more then that.
I’m sure the club’s PR team were furious Ferrite but would they dare tell him?

You should hear us on a bad day WG. 😂
This thread isn’t about you Mr abusive saddo, back in your shed where I’m sure you partake regularly on what you just stated above.
Ask the CEO or grounds maintenance team?
Well now the matter has been raised live on the podcast maybe the Chairman will have the good grace to raise the matter with the relevant people himself. After all he is meant to care and we already know he can laugh things off but perhaps he may actually do something positive now this matter has been discussed with him.

Wonder if Swann was even there yesterday?, yep the ground is in a right old state but countless lower league clubs will be in the same boat, be interesting what those travelling to Rochdale next week have to say on the state of Spotland.
So….
If Swindon had five players two weeks ago, how did they manage to sign better players than we did in six weeks?Come on alcy get your head out your arse, the new guy at Swindon will have bunged a lot of money into the squad really quickly whereas we have the lowest budget in the division. Do you spend all day sleeping in that bloody shed, waking up occasionally to post crap for the sake of it? Wake up man.
Bit harsh.
Unlike some on here i dont have the time (or inclination) to follow the fortunes of every club.
So much so that when England play, I have very little idea as to who the players are, or who their parent clubs are…unless I watch with my youngest. But don’t let any of that deny you a chance at a rant, or an insult or two.

Don’t worry I wont, you know the position of the club budget wise and you basically rehash the same old tripe to come on here and say the same thing. We get it you want Swann gone along with a few more of us but just do a bit of research before posting the same old bilge and as for the current squad, yes they lack quality but the effort of the team yesterday was commendable compared to last season and over the season they will be better to watch at least from that point of view. To compare a relegated club, however a dire position they were in up until recently, with our threadbare squad backed with the smallest budget in the Football league is just plain stupid, so deal with it because sometimes you get what your stupidity deserves. The cross shot mick keeps referring to was a nice shot that curled in the far post, cracking goal not a straightforward drive across the goal, I observed from the east stand, right behind the scorer. Top finish TBF, Rory no chance.

Those drains have been blocked for several seasons now and is just another indicator of how little the Chairman is bothered in general. Actually when I went to pick up my ticket for the game a few days back there were a group of guys working on the drains but obviously it’s a bigger problem that needs resolving. Perhaps an over abundance of shit in the board room could be the answer.

I think your appraisal of the new players after just one league game is more then a tad harsh Brian but your entitled to your opinion, see if you think the same after fifteen games.
Agree about Pugh les he cost us today but he will get better overtime, the team.in general a work in progress, Davis and Taft look good and Thompson and O’malley will fight over that left back slot but we are still a few players short plus we picked up a couple of injuries in the first game FFS. Kenyon looks a bit leaden footed in midfield and we deffo lack a creative spark in there, Bunn looks a good signing and fair play to Loft for his battling qualities but he needs help up front. Keeper looked ok till injured but I wouldn’t blame Watson for any of the goals, we were a bit naive at times but it’s early days.

Nice bit of Talking Heads their alcy with that last line.
Will you be living in your shotgun shack this afternoon?
Very disillusioned with everything that’s been going on the past few years but I’m a glutton for punishment so will be making the 420 mile round trip tomorrow…and actually looking forward to it. I’m sure I’ll be regretting the decision when we’re 2-0 down within 30 minutes.
That’s the spirit BLT I admire your enthusiasm, I’m very much of a similar opinion to yourself but thankfully my round trip is a mere 7 miles. Makes losing a bit more bearable as good home made grub and copious amounts of alcohol are close at hand.
