How can training replicate a big match atmosphere against World Class players like Italy?, the senior players left on the pitch after Kane and Maguire scored should have come forward to take one. Reminded me a bit of 1992 play off final when youngsters Alexander and White took pens for us and missed whilst Joe Joyce sat on his arse in the centre circle not interested, absolutely ridiculous putting Saka and Sancho through that, Rashford should know better, his penalty was awful.

Yep a poor England shoot out, Pickford was brilliant and deserved better from his team mates taking pens. Felt sorry for Saka and Sancho who were let down by senior players not taking pens in front of them, as for Rashford it was a poor pen from someone like him. Italy were the best team on the night and deserved their win so 👏👏👏 to them. This England team will get better and better, World Cup semi finalists and Euro finalists in three years is a good template for the future and Southgate is a good manager, he’s got England playing as a team not a bunch of individuals like in the Beckham/ Gerrard/ Lampard era. Keep going Gareth, you will get there.

Any gesture before a game supporting the anti racism movement in sport is very welcome whether it be taking the knee or showing support through applause to the team taking it. Applause before a game is used for many things such as remembering a famous player now passed on or a gesture of appreciation to some long standing fan or club member. The knee represents the anti racism cause and therefore is unique to that and that is why it should stay and that’s why players who voluntarily take it should be applauded.

Once again Southgate has been proved right, never mind the subbing of Grealish, never mind was it a pen or not, never mind Pickford should do better with the free kick and never mind the goal from the pen save rebound, England won and managed extra time brilliantly,thoroughly deserved win and all the players did great. The Morecambe comparison on season tickets will be interesting when stacked up alongside town population, Morecambes population is less then half of Scunthorpe and although they live in a more densely populated area of the country then us we don’t have three of the most successful clubs in football history on our doorstep plus a host of other larger towns with bigger football clubs. However I hear Morecambe play half decent footy and they have just got promoted, good luck to them.
