” Top targets?” Any hints?
Restarting the academies will be a good start but they will take several years to produce their 1st players.
I have a terrible memory, can you remind me of the regular first teamers produced by the academy over the last 10 years or so. Thanks.

Is that why he’s at Cleethorpes?
“crackers” – AWG a mate of yours then?

FYI AWG:-
“@SUFCOfficial
Chair and co-owner, Michelle Harness, revealed to fans in attendance following the broadcast portion of tonight’s forum that they are on the verge of announcing the club’s new CEO.”1 user thanked author for this post.
CM would have been better.
I bet Man. City supporters are loving Cole Palmer at Chelsea. (Mind you they’re still successful)
Winning games will certainly stop/reduce criticism, if it comes with entertainment then that’s a bonus. What prompts unrest is boring draws against teams we should be beating or, even worse, losing along with the (perceived) lack of effort/interest by some players and finally a complete inability to pass a ball successfully.

Lots of knowledge on here I-a.
(Along with a load of b******s as well of course!)Hindsight is a wonderful thing! At the time they weren’t good enough for the level at which we were playing. (IMO)
Maybe Trinity’s system suits him, how would he fare in our team with the emphasis on defence?

Then maybe we should have moved on, we can’t afford to wait IMO, it’s urgent.

Never fit is he?
One big disappointment:-
There is money to strengthen the squad
We have a list of players that would improve us
Why aren’t they with us?1 user thanked author for this post.
Happy to put millions out of work then?
Happy to pay more in tax to make up the government shortfall?
Choices.ICYMI:-
“This Saturday’s game against Scunthorpe United is our annual Retro Day at the Deva Stadium. On the day of the game, we are encouraging supporters of both Chester FC and Scunthorpe United to wear their retro shirts to the game this weekend.”Why? It’s not compulsory, lots of people bet responsibly and enjoy it.
Possibly – we have plenty.
I was hoping the friendly against Donny might have produced something in the way of fresh faces but it hardly merited a mention at our end. “All the squad were involved” was all we got.
Did Carlton play? Is he fit? Did we look at any triallists? Were we checking out Donny fringe players for loan? Did we try different tactics?
Answers to any/all of these questions would have been appreciated.1 user thanked author for this post.
A few excerpts from a “no punches pulled” Kiddy match report:-
Well that was bad wasn’t it? BAD!, BAD!, BAD! Following a shocking, substandard second half performance the Harriers went crashing out of the FA Cup.
We must have had around ten chances to go into the break at least two goals to the good but profligacy in front of goal has been our failing all season.
The second half was shocking and inexcusable. Phil Brown could clearly see his game plan wasn’t working but to take off our entire midfield was criminal on his behalf.
We went to pieces in the middle of the park, understandable considering we had no one in the middle of the park to create anything. Every ball that came our way was mis-kicked, fumbled, lost and given away. Do these players never practise ball control in training? Is it just all laughter and piggybacks?
After the game Phil Brown came out and held his hands up to the way he had set the team up.
Anything familiar in there?
You should go with Stu, his is always top notch!

It’s football, there’ll be criticism, some of it will be unwarranted from people that like to have a moan about anything. I think your exaggerating the criticism, if you look more closely anything that, to me, seems OTT comes from a few people only.

Opinions differ. Fine. Some opinions are more reasoned than others. Definitely. A novice Manager has you top of the League after ten games … has a 3 or 4 game blip coinciding with a depleted forward line .. and the calls for sacking begin.
Two things:-
It’s not just a 3 or 4 game blip though is it. Even when we were winning we were far from convincing.
I haven’t seen much call for sacking, the odd one or two of course but that’s to be expected from certain quarters. The majority just want to see some decent football which would need change from Butler tactically and a bit of recruitment. We’d be better off getting players in whilst we’re top. i.e. before the Chester game .

And, obviously, he trains well. I forgot that. (Mind you so do most of the others it seems, must be something about Saturdays then.)

There is only so much that can be said about a game afterwards and most clubs have over 50 games a season with managers or assistants making after match comments on them all.
I don’t mind repetitive after match interviews as long as it’s along the lines of:-
A good win, plans carried out to perfection.
We could have scored a couple more but I’m happy with 5.
That’s the best we’ve played all season and there’s more to come.
We’re top of the league by X points, one more than last week.
Rather than the depressing, self justification that we’re getting following another dire performance.1 user thanked author for this post.
Don’t see much division on here I-A.
‘Contract extension badly timed/too soon’ and ‘Butlers tactics are questionable’ seem to be pretty standard opinions.5 users thanked author for this post.
For the avoidence of doubt – I do not want Butler out. However I do want him to learn. He insists that his system is working and seems determined to continue its use. His view that “We are top of the league” justifies his opinion, the last 4 games don’t.
1.” We weren’t on our game, we were off the pace, we lost concentration, we weren’t good enough” etc is OK occasionally but not after every game.
2. His preferred starting 11 is almost exclusively last seasons team. Rowley and Grogan were playing a league higher but don’t often start, have either yet played a full league game? Were they not Butler’s choice?
3. We have 3 FBs but no WBs, if you have FBs use them, if you want WBs get some.
4. Some of the players are not good enough, some have time, others might have peaked and some need moving out either temporarily or permanently.
5. He talks about changing tactics during the game but subs seem to be mainly like for like (JD style) unless it’s a MF on for a striker to protect a 1 goal lead. (How well that works)
6. Players switch off when 1 up, under instruction or they think they’ve done enough?
7.Squad is poorly balanced, too many MFs but we’re still lacking in that vital area. Too few fit strikers, another area lacking sufficient quality.
Change what you can Andy and persuade others to change what you can’t. (Quickly or your TOTL excuse will have disappeared.6 users thanked author for this post.
According to Michelle 10% of the inherited debt still remains. Presumably all this cash that you think we have is heading that way as a priority. Not an unreasonable scenario is it?
