    Agree entirely.
His “job” apparently is to dictate the play. He doesn’t have the range of passing to do that, being largely limited to 5 and 10 yard passes sideways and backwards.
So does he compensate by being a ball winner? No, seldom tackles anybody.
Is he the big physical presence that many think is required? Hardly.
Is he the teams motivator? Judged on recent team performances that’s a no as well.
What’s his strength? He’s very good at talking to the ref!

Well what was that? I’ll have a go:-
    Uninspiring
    Pedestrian
    Lethargic
    Unchanging
    Predictable
    Wasteful

And don’t give me that “still top of the league” crap because you’ll have to find something else soon!

If the investor with no/several names has connections with Ilkeston and Scunthorpe it might depend on which direction the MTFC board are looking?

If you mean Shrimpton, Rowley and Brogan I don’t think they’ve done enough when given a go so far.

I accept defeats happen, I also understand we must win the league but the moment you hear ” After 9 league games if someone said we have 20 pts and 3 pts clear at the top…..” is said our aims have changed. We should be trying to win EVERY game.

Butler says frequently that he wants to win every game. Sadly he seems to forget he said that when it comes to picking the team which seems more like a ‘not lose’ selection to me.

    Just seen this:-
“The winning goal was Lawlor’s first competitive strike for the Lions in 2534 days, a run stretching back to 21st October 2017 when the defender netted in a 4-2 win over Solihull Moors at Nethermoor in the Vanarama National League.”

    Unbelievable Jeff!!

Kai Corbett not starting at ‘shots.
Conor Smith out on loan from St J.
Ben Middlemas back at Sunderland after loan.
Enquiries about all 3 might get something.
Re above:- Nicholsons long throw is keeping Maxi/Evans out of the starting line up. It worked once early on but nothing since. If Butler can’t make it work more often then Nicholson, as the weakest CB IMO, must step aside. (Preferably with another CB to make room for more attacking potential)

They’re ringing already in our house.

Are you sure that’s not your telephone cass?

Nah, doesn’t ring much since the old PIP thing finished. No mates you see.

Couldn’t hear what Roberts was saying, did he have reasons for that poor display?
Probably saying he should have been on from the start and I wouldn’t disagree.

Jimmy didn’t have the nous to keep us in the NL, that’s why he got the job!

Two successive 1-0s might suggest scoring is a problem, in fact hitting the target seems to be beyond most of our lot at the moment. Apart from the ‘straight at the keeper’ efforts I don’t think either of the two latest keepers have been tested more than once or twice. Not good enough, maybe time for one less CB and a bit more up top?

No RH commentary tomorrow due to the demand caused by the end of the CC cricket season (Which Surrey have already won) Available on TV Freeview apparently.
    Well done BBC.

The aim is SUSTAINABILITY with a view to ensuring our club has a long term future. I’d suggest “whatever it takes” is not an unreasonable course to achieve that.

Still thinking about it. I went 0-5 in the PL for Newcastle away so I might have to temper my optimism this time. I’ll wait for team news this time I think.

Like your set up IFA but doubt Butler will.
Having learned (I hope) from the Newcastle tie I expect Fitz to start. Nicholson (ex Guiseley and long throw) in for The Fish and we might not be far away.

    Can’t place him, Cass.
Does he have a physical presence?

Well he’s solid to the touch les, were you hoping for a player that could ghost past defences?
MK above mirrors my view, our passing has been woeful but, as I said, he’s only one of those I think we need. I’m with you re the big midfielder, I always prefer a bit of beef in there. Sadly Evans has only some of what is required and is certainly not the solution. I was hoping Brogan might be but it looks like Butler is not convinced.

The original opinion with which you disagreed was “far from convinced with our midfield.” Do we take it then that you are content with a midfield that includes Will Evans?

Possibly the KUTA we needed? A touch of complacency, or is it just that we can’t pass?

If perks like that can be included in the Sustainability model then I’m sure they’ll come back. We all knew that sacrifices would have to be made.

What I find concerning is, that of all Butler’s summer signings, only one has established himself as a regular starter. (As I’ve said elsewhere, if he didn’t have a long throw it could be none of them) That must call the recruitment questionable at best, effectively we are expecting a first time manager to turn last seasons non-promotion winners into a promotion winning team. Is that realistic or do we need to find and sign two or three guaranteed starters to give us the boost we (possibly) need?
    Remember:-

4 decent CBs and it seems Butler doesn’t want to disappoint any of them. Maxi has done him a favour by being suspended. IMO if Nicholson didn’t have a long throw he’d be the one to miss out.

I don’t like 3 CBs but it’s worked so far, 4 is just ridiculous. How do Brogan, Rowley & Shrimpton feel being behind Evans for a midfield start?
