You will have a lot of sympathy from Scunny fans and Bury fans, Mtfc fan. I suspect those who voted yes might not get so much if things do go awry, but I understand the scaremongering tactics used on the fans. It was done here.

I wonder who he’ll foster as the scapegoat with Matlock like with Bury AFC or Bru. There’s the cricket club, I guess, but the divide and conquer strategy will need some on the fanbase to be the enemy tormenting poor Dave.

Fans get passionate about their teams and many feel anger towards those who they feel ruined their club. Hilton was happy to seize on ill feeling towards Swann. In time it will die down, but people will still have a say where it is relevant due to historical connection.

Grimsby fans still discuss Fenty when he crops up in talking points. We are not unique. Mark Weaver was told to avoid going to Donny ever again after he left, ‘mad Ken’ Richardson of Donny died a couple of years ago and some Donny fans cheered it on their forum. I saw rumours of SISU buying out Reading and Coventry fans were not being kind on social media. Same for other clubs with their disliked owners. I get it may be hard to hear for those with sympathy to the owner, but surely some understanding of how hurt fans were is in order and that when topical news items appear, like with Matlock, there will be some discussion and not necessarily positive.

Not really, but given the history of Hilton with Scunny it is bound to generate discussion and maybe you should accept that many won’t be positive given how it ended. Whether you agree with it or not, many won’t like him and himself and you will just have to live with that. You can’t force everyone to like you. I don’t care if you like me, you shouldn’t care that I and others think Hilton is a slimeball. It’s not just limited to here either. I have heard not so positive comments at Scunny games from fans, as well as on twitter and Facebook. He left with us in peril and many will blame him for that.

The antagonistic kind of talk you have engaged in is the sort which created issues among some Scunny fans then and now. That was one of the things that caused souring and many suspect it was deliberate for his own ends. If you think that’s wrong, fine, it may well be, but everything done by himself and you on here helped cause the divide. Intentional or not.

I don’t particularly care who you feel sorry for. I am quite content in the knowledge that I didn’t clap along the con man’s antics, didn’t excuse and I don’t live a live sad enough to go onto another club’s forum to insult others for daring not to see positive in a mate who contributed to the club’s downfall (I am not letting Swann off the hook).

I have been to several games in the northern premier league. All outside of Scunny and none treated Ilkeston as some club to be envied. They were just seen as another club at that level.
