We’re one of the clubs suffering from having a Morecambe fixture early season.

By the end of the month we’ll be a game behind most clubs and if we don’t get points off Tamworth and Woking then we’re already playing catchup.

Need a strong start to the campaign.

Don’t think we’ll be cooking up a lamb casserole today, narrow defeat I reckon.

If we finish where the bookies have us I’ll be happy.

Didn’t they have us down to finish second last year, with Chester top?

    Indeed.

Would love to see some red-coated t**t ripped to death by two dozen foxes.

And I’m not talking Butlins here!

AI: Quorn FC aren’t related to Quorn food brand or now known as FGR.

For the railway buffs on here Quorn & Woodhouse Station is worth a visit.

Certainly do remember Suggs! I think you could get just about anything there.

When I played for Gurnell St U11s our shirts were red with white collar and cuffs. Buttoned collar and buttoned cuffs mind you. Made by Bukta I think.

Double thickness cotton, reversible. So if there was a colour clash you turned your shirt inside out, making our “away shirt” white with red collar and cuffs.

    And when they got wet!

    Red!

No collar, no contrasting trim, no badge, no manufacturer’s logo, no sponsor’s logo, nowt but a white number on the back.

    Classic!

Can anyone remember when football kits were designed so you could tell the teams apart from the back of the stands on a grey December afternoon, rather than for the catwalk or to placate the casuals before they hit the bars of Benidorm?

Remember that classic 1969/70 season? That strip really fired up the imagination.

I refer you to MK’s post on the “Vapid pre-season” thread.

Rose has done virtually a full pre-season with Posh before leaving them for another club.

We’re at the end of pre-season. The coaching staff have had a chance to look at everyone and this time next week we’ll be up and running.

Like the launch video but will be honest not the most imaginative of designs for either strip.

    Au contraire Rodney!

Too much use of the imagination methinks.

    U21s? U18s?

    U11s?

Apparently Campbell made (quote) “sublime” and “splendid” saves.

    All good then.

Incredible! If it was the plot of a film you’d say it was far fetched.

Loved Chloe Kelly’s penalty. Straight out of the Harry Kane repertoire.

As I said on the other thread we looked better defensively with the dreaded five at the back. That’s because the full/wing backs were pushing up in a high press making the midfield quite compact and stifling their attack. Downside was that Whitehall was isolated up front so we’re relying on the energy and skills of the midfield to provide the killer pass. That or the wing backs getting up the line and putting in the crosses. Which to be fair is what they were trying to do yesterday.

Once you drop a defender and go with a standard four at the back there’s no hiding place for them. If you still want the width then you’re light in CMF which the opposition will exploit. Pack the midfield at the expense of wide men and there’s no outlet.

It’s fairly obvious and I’m sure the coaching staff are aware of it. It also reinforces the need for a midfield general. Something I don’t think we have at present.

Better hope those injuries are on the forward line then.

Get a couple of defenders out and we’re screwed.

Harry Shipstone looks about 12 and must be 10 stone soaking wet.

No disrespect to the lad but I don’t think he’s really what we need in midfield in this division.

Simmonds has had a fair bit of game time but if we sign him he’s going to be competing with Chadwick, Eze and Carlton. Another forward would be a luxury signing. Can we really afford that?
