As long as he’s not from East Coast Mariners!
Nigel Adkins recommendation???
I take it you do know who “the lad” from Notts is?
Cox – best substitutions he’s made this season. Tried to impact positively not just invited pressure with more defenders.
We only had one defender (Bedeau) on the bench. So that was never going to happen!
If he keeps picking up a booking every game it won’t be long before he’s sitting one out!
Would have liked a Matty Lund or Ryan Yates type in there but beggars can’t be choosers.
Maybe Taylor is up to it given a bit more experience behind him but Beeston and Spence are looking decent at the moment.
Anything to keep Gilliead and Eisa out wide.
Move on Hallam?
He’s one of the few who looks like a footballer.
Move on mardy-arse McAttee. He thinks he’s too good for League 2 anyway.
A repeat of last season would be nice!
Suspect they are stronger this time out though, as they stuffed Man Utd’s U21s this week.
Manny & McGahey at CB with Brown & Clarke/Rowe FB. Same MF and Loft plus Kev if fit. If not Hallam or McAttee if he can be bothered.
My only criticism of Cox last night was starting Kev.
It was clear that he hadn’t recovered fully from Saturday (unsurprisingly) and if he’s got a muscle injury that’s not great news. McAttee or Hallam could have started instead.
Daft risk IMO.
With WG & CT on this one. Also I’d like to see Hallam incorporated at some point. Either as attacking CMF or in Kev’s no. 10 role should he be out again.
Taylor to come back too. As for Vincent I’d get a duo rail ticket back to Bournemouth for him and Cordner.
So that’ll be another to add to the Vose, Margetts, Lewis, El Mhanni etc list.
What’s the betting Dales is next.
A deeply flawed recruitment strategy that goes back long before Cox or even Hurst were appointed.
Time for Hallam to show what he can do in that role?
In our predicament I’ll take the three points. Back to back away wins – when did that last happen? Or back to back clean sheets for that matter.
We haven’t got a reputation for seeing out a 1-0, nor have we a reputation for winning games in hand so a couple of positives to take home from Burslem.
Negatives are the second half tactics and Kev going off injured. Too much too soon. He should have started on the bench tonight.
So you don’t think football has changed in the last fifty years?
Imagine if Rory Watson had been playing in the sixties.
Imagine if in his first game Matt Tees had but both him and the ball in the back of the net and the goal had stood.
Imagine if he had been signed by Liverpool and got top goalkeeping coaching instead of being trained by Jack Brownsword with a fag in his mouth.
Imagine if we hadn’t sold Barrie Thomas to Newcastle.
Imagine if George Best had been teetotal and celibate.
Imagine if Maradonna hadn’t been a smack- head.
Good game isn’t it?
Obviously got lucky at Oldham with them having a “Musser” coached keeper between the sticks!
Very sad news. Our footballing heroes seem to be leaving us at quite a pace these days.
Thought it looked shite with black shorts. The claret ones from the home kit would have been better.
There we go again Mr “negative” Northumbiron
I prefer the term “realist” or even “pessimist”. After all pessimists are never disappointed!
with games in hand dare we look at mid table.
Behave!
KvV got 82 minutes and Jordan 91!
I reckon they managed bloody well don’t you?
Whether or not they can recover in time for Tuesday is another matter.
Great goal + super assist from big Kev. A 90 minute man from hereon in.
Read that as “from heroin”! Wondered how he got through 80 minutes.
Lucky white kit? Shame we can’t wear it at PV on Tuesday.
Ruddy ‘ell!
It actually looks like a team. Question is how long will those who’ve been out for a while last?
Hopefully Rowe for Clarke and McAttee for KvV before either break down again.
And thanks only surface when there is something concrete to thank someone for, not a might happen.
Not often I agree with BS but I’m with him on this one.
The last five years have been a “might happen”!
Sorry, but this is just more waffle and empty promises. Why has the club just “started looking at a strategy”? Why have we not had supporter representation before?
Oh, and I see the ground rebuild is still on the menu! How about a team rebuild first?
Covid has affected every club in every league. Why does he think SUFC suffering worse than others?
As for the U23 comments – here’s an idea for the dark nights ahead. Write down the whole of our squad and sort out who is in the first team and who is in the U23s. Bet it’s harder than you think, and I bet you come up with a different list to me.
As stated above, we are not going forwards, we’re going backwards and have been since long before relegation, wage caps and coronavirus.
Nice of PS to put out an update but until we start seeing some evidence of “perseverance” on the pitch I won’t be reading too much into it.
Yay! Alcy’s back!
Ever heard the term “false economy”?
I can tell you that, for me, the single largest reason why state schools get poorer results is that the independent sector is considerably less tolerant of failure.
We’ll have to have a chat about that sometime, but probably in the New Year as it will take me until then to stop fuming over this stupid, ignorant comment!
Anyhow moving on. I always shouted when I was playing. I still do in a Sunday evening game of 5-a-side.
The secret is to be positive. As well as reading the game and bellowing out instructions (you have to bellow to be heard) you can gee-up a player by shouting something like “Come on Tony, you’re better than that” or praise them with the likes off “Great defending guys, absolutely brilliant. Same again!”
I remember watching Paul Hayes playing at Carlisle for Wycombe. He was constantly talking to the other players, particularly the young lads, encouraging them and giving praise when it was earned. This is what we are missing at present.
With no crowds in stadiums it should be easier to spot who is doing this when watching on ifollow. Have a listen on Saturday.
he has the best interests of scunny at the heart of it.
I have the best interests of my car at heart but I don’t service it myself I entrust the job to a mechanic.
And I let the mechanic use the correct new parts. I don’t go round a scrap yard and collect a load of rusty spares and tell him to use those instead.
An interesting phone-in.
Peter Swann has obviously studied politicians interview techniques, as he is very good at sounding like a caring father figure who is carrying the weight of responsibility on his broad shoulders, without actually answering the questions.
Very convenient to have the pandemic to help deflect the brick bats, but as I said on the other thread, all 24 clubs are in the same boat and this shitshow has been going on since Alexander left.
Cox’s comments were interesting too. Why has it taken thirteen games to give the squad a bollocking? Why have they been allowed to “do what they want” for thirteen games before Cox tells them to “do what he wants”?
If Cordner is not up to it mentally and physically then send him back to Bournemouth. Why should we develop someone else’s player if he can’t be arsed?
It all sounded a bit amateurish to me.
Then go into win promotion, manager with new world record, league 2 manager of the year and Winnall with the golden boot,
Then came the pipe dream of playing Championship football in a brand new stadium, which took precedence over everything else.
Then the downgrade to a rebuilt/refurbished Glanford Park. Oops, sorry! Sands Venue Stadium. The falling out with the council which was embarrassing.
Then the squad that a couple of years ago were a game away from Wembley has been downgraded to one unable to compete in League 2.
Can you see anything other than a downward spiral? I can’t.
