Deery as I suspect you know I was having a light hearted dig at the insider/bystander duo. They may have absolutely valid points but constantly repeating them behind a cloak of anonymity is not really helping anyone. They do also have thinly disguised agendas against Hilton.

Remember when we used to have a bit of a laugh about things on here.

Of course you have valid concerns as do I and I suspect every other Iron fan does. We are set to play in a part time regional football league and have not owned our ground for more than 2 years so we have plenty to worry about.

Our fate lies in the hands of one man although that has been the case for many years – be their surname Wharton, Swann or Hilton.

The current owner will either prove to be smarter than Swann or not. Such a low bar that I am hopeful he is. He will prove to be truthful and well intentioned or not. History suggests the Wharton’s pretty much were and Peter Swann pretty much wasn’t.

Time will tell but not an awful lot we can do about it.

He is a bit of a gobshite if you compare him to our previous owner over the last 3 years.

Hilton stated at the fans forum he would answer any questions from fans.

Obviously a fan took him at his word the other day (well done him) and Hilton seemed to give fairly transparent answers.

Has anyone with much repeated concerns tried to have a conversation with him?

What qualifications did Daws, Hill, Cox and McCall have between them?

Didn’t seem to help much. Mind you if the Swann’s picked his players and team then Pep would no doubt struggle.

Hilton said he has secured the new training facilities in Scunthorpe but could not disclose the address or move in until the tenants had been informed and moved out.

He said at the fans forum the new training ground would be available September or October.

Although he didn’t say this at the forum there are some good facilities at Ilkeston available at a very reasonable rate for the interim period.

The previous owner and the truth were virtually strangers IB.

There was also (allegedly) best part of £1m of debt to clear before starting on running costs.

Seem to remember Hilton said there were 3 things he had requested to be clarified.

    1. The so called ransom strip of unregistered land between ground and training pitch.
    2. Right of access on the other side of the ground for a local farmer (Jackson?)
    3. Clarification on the expiry (or otherwise) of planning permission on the land still being valid. This was something Hilton said Swann had promised but the local council had suggested was lapsed so would need re-application.

Hilton felt only issue 1 would take time due to land registry changes taking 8 to 10 weeks hence he offered £20k per month rental until Swann could clear the issues.

Hilton said Swann refused the request and subsequently refused to communicate with Hilton.

Please note I am reporting what was said to the best of my recollection. Can’t comment on the truth of it or otherwise.

Shame the team Swann supports getting relegated.

    Welcome to our world Peter.

2 more relegations and you might be as pissed off as we are.

I’m thinking more Dave Syers than Ryan Yates!

I’ll take National League version of either. I think is better prospect than Pugh but time will tell.

Probably too early to tell exactly what kind of midfielder he might end up being. I think an athletic box to box midfielder not afraid of a tackle is where he could get to if he continues to work hard. Think Yates but sadly not as good.

I would argue he was at least as effective this season as Hackney was for us last season. Hopefully he will improve a lot once he starts playing with some actual footballers – it’s certainly worked for Hackney.

He actually stated he was employed by Britannia Law as a debt collector.

He did not enjoy the job and felt increasingly uncomfortable with their practices which whilst legal he felt were morally questionable. Left the company after 9 or 10 months if my memory serves me correctly. Also said this was when he was about 25.

He denied knowing any Nottingham crime syndicates and has never been involved in drug dealing or money laundering.

He admitted to having changed his name once (from White to Hilton) for what he said were family reasons and has not gone under any other names.

He stated he is not a property developer, he buys and sells land. He specialises in problematic land either with covenants or waste issues, sorts out the issues then gets planning permission and sells on.

Usually does this as a sole trader but occasionally with partners. He explained his companies without trading histories as companies created to buy specific plots of land but where he was unsuccessful at the auction stage. He has some history of conflict with councils over planning but claimed that was an inevitable factor of the business he is in.

Other than that he cracked 3 or 4 jokes at the former owners expense which obviously were going to be well received with an audience of 200 Iron fans.

Whether you liked or indeed believe his answers he did not duck any questions and actively encouraged them. He also said he was happy to answer questions from Iron fans at any time going forward.

Depending what happens with Butterfield and Beeston we need 4 midfielders if they go. 2 for the centre and a wide midfielder/winger each side as Sembie-Ferris and Lewis not yet NL top 7 players from what we have seen.

At least one preferably both new CM’s need creativity as well as athleticism because Shrimpton, Rance and Pugh are workhorse midfielders. Nothing wrong with that if course but creativity is needed at any level.

From my limited knowledge of the level (NLN & NLS playoff finals) it seems the intensity and physicality are pretty much the same as NL but obviously more patchy in terms of footballing capabilities.

One more forward (assuming Wilson goes) and cover at right back for Ogle (hoping he stays) and we should be in good shape. Always assuming we have somewhere to play and house the 4,000 crowds a winning Swann free club would bring.

He said last night his personal spend was up to £1.7m

Why does anyone buy a football club?

Very few these days are fans of the clubs they buy. Swann was a Leicester fan I believe. We found out the hard way he didn’t give a monkeys about the club, the town or the fans.

We had a local consortium but they (correctly?) thought the valuation too high.

Time will tell if Hilton’s motivation is more beneficial to the club than was the case with Swann.

He is going to have to drop us a couple of leagues for starters to get close to his predecessors achievements.

The fact is we as supporters have no influence over what happens next no more than we had any influence under Swann or even Wharton.

Might as well chill and see what happens next. It would be nice to stop losing and waving the white flag as we have done most matchdays for the last 5 years.

a lot doesn’t make sense, if he is willing to pay 20k a month rent he may as well pay Swann up and build the new ground and sell GP off himself

Mick the way I heard that bit is that if Swann agrees to sort out the site issues preventing the sale then Hilton will pay him £20k a month rental for that period.

Of the issues Hilton raised with Swann to be resolved the one regarding the unregistered strip of land is the one that could take some time to complete (I think 2 to 3 months was mentioned).

Hilton clearly stated if Swann resolves the issues that were unknown to Hilton back in January then he will pay the £3.5m

They are probably calling each others bluff so we will probably find out the rights and wrongs of the situation when we know who blinks first.

I think you are right Daz.

My own view is that if the previous owner comes out of it with a bloody nose and a lot less cash then that would be a bonus.

He may have picked a fight with the wrong man here.

Hilton gave chapter and verse on what Swann has done (and not done) that has caused the issues. He stated the reason for the forum not being streamed or recorded was because he would not then have been able to fully clarify this without possibly giving Swann a lever to use against him.

Of course we will hear a very different story from Swann so it will come down to who you believe or who wins the dispute legally or otherwise.

Given one of the parties record as a bigger liar than Boris or Donald you can probably guess who I am inclined to believe.

Hilton gave a fairly comprehensive response to the rest of the recent hysterical character assassination also.

Totally agree Richgy a joy to watch even when the were ripping us a new one at their place.

Better footballing side than any we saw in League 2 the previous season.

I would accept the industrial style of football that the likes of Wrexham and Borehamwood play if it meant us winning a few games but it’s crap for the neutral.

Hope they stick to their principles and do well with it in League 2.

Not looking for guarantees of EFL football Awaywego. Nothing can be guaranteed and we have had 10 years of bullshit promises.

I do hope though that the club have a plan to have a go though. Happy with one step at a time so a plan on try and win NLN will do for starters.

No interest whatsoever in 98% of that stuff provided he gives satisfactory (and believable) answers to the 2 questions that matter:

How are you going to return us to the EFL?

What is happening with the ground/site?

A quick search of his profile shows the first post to be from 2020 with a post or two not complimentary towards Swann.

Stop taking it out on fans because they don’t worship the ground Hilton walks on. Concerns about Hilton can be brushed away as unfounded, no matter what (and some seemingly are), but we can assert other fans are conspiracists based on nothing? That’s no better than Rene’s conspiracies.

8 posts in 3.5 years of Swann 1 of which was mildly critical of him.

35 since Hilton arrived virtually all have been posts that would have had Swann contacting his lawyers had they been about him. I still think my question was valid and fair.
