January 31, 2026 at 2:03 pm #315801IRON 5 – 1 win if treat HORSHAM FC with maximum respect.
1876January 31, 2026 at 3:47 pm #315802Sadly.you are both wrong!!
January 31, 2026 at 4:11 pm #315804Being out played and 2-1 down atmo .. deerey me !!
January 31, 2026 at 4:23 pm #315805Well if we are being outplayed then at least he has a bench full of positive subs who can and will make a difference if put on, guess AB is weighing up when to use them and how long they may need to turn things round.
January 31, 2026 at 5:02 pm #315810Why am I to blame?!
Anyway, ‘concentrate on the league’.
January 31, 2026 at 5:02 pm #315811Out played and beaten by a better side … i can hear the usual ” lets concentrate on the league brigade starting engines … exactly NOW !!
January 31, 2026 at 5:04 pm #315812Beat you to it ;)
I was joking mind…
January 31, 2026 at 5:11 pm #315813Well that was all worthwhile, do we not do well in cup competitions, if we’re in it again next season get out of it at the earliest as possible.
The crowds show that most fans aren’t interested.
Ff at least Halifax lost so the game will still be on a Saturday.1 user thanked author for this post.
January 31, 2026 at 5:14 pm #315814Is it a mental thing? Teams above/around us we can play well, teams of supposedly inferior quality we always seem to struggle to perform.
Recent example – Morecambe have got 1 point from their last 5 games.January 31, 2026 at 5:18 pm #315816More disappointed for those that were going to Truro who now can’t go.
January 31, 2026 at 5:54 pm #315817Take our best player off, Dec Howe.
Sub Barrows on for Starbuck, defender for defender late in the game, so does not bring Joey Dawson on who could get a goal.
If we cannot beat a national league south team, not good..January 31, 2026 at 6:13 pm #315820I’ll be glad when Whitehall Twankey’s contract run out
January 31, 2026 at 7:42 pm #315821Today was the worst performance from a Butler team so far, imho. Plus, the pitch is getting worse each time there’s a match played on it. When Roberts tripped in a big divot on the edge of the Horsham box and then crumpled in a heap, pointing at the pitch and effing and blinding, I thought “How long before we have another serious Ross Barrows-type situation?”

January 31, 2026 at 9:53 pm #315822Is there an answer?
January 31, 2026 at 10:25 pm #315823Well done Horsham wanted it more deserved the win.
The money would have come in handy to help towards a new pitch and someone to look after it full time.January 31, 2026 at 10:48 pm #315824If we are in it next year I certainly won’t be going to watch. What an absolutely desperate match today. I’d rather Butler said we are prioritising the league on day one of the season and aren’t interested in any other competition and we’d all honestly know where we stand. Dec Howe was the only player for us that was interested the rest looked like they’d just met in the warm up.
Credit to Horsham they gave us the beating we deserved.February 1, 2026 at 10:11 am #315827Dec has been out of the team and must think he has something to prove (Probably right)
The rest must think they’ve already proved themselves, can’t be a***d as NLS teams are below their level or think they’ll get plenty of other chances to play at Wembley. (Probably wrong)1 user thanked author for this post.
February 1, 2026 at 10:28 am #3158298 changes made as players needed game time, this implies they’re not match fit or certainly match sharp. Why start a game when 3 quarters of the side are at that level, what’s the logical consequence of that – the performance we got maybe? I wasn’t adverse to 3 or 4 changes at a push but 8 was too many and not a hindsight thing, I visibly winced when they announced 8 changes on the radio. 17 years since we were at Wembley, may well be another 17 before we get a better chance. Yes, play-offs are and should be achievable but in one off games anything can happen, there’s no guarantees. Fair play to Horsham they definitely deserved the win on the day but can’t help thinking what if….Don’t try to complicate football, play the game in front of you.

February 1, 2026 at 11:02 am #315831It’s clear to see Butler’s not really interested in most cup games, and if he is he does he doesn’t appear to learn anything from them.

February 1, 2026 at 11:44 am #315835AB Keeps banging on about everyone being on the same page and wanting the same things. Yesterday proved this to be totally untrue. The fans wanted a true performance with the chance of a Wembley day out and if we lost fair play. The manager/team wanted a run out and minutes/game time for Fringe players and if we happened to win fair enough. If this sets a precedent for future seasons then don’t expect fans to turn up to watch a training session. Well done to Horsham fully deserving of the win.
February 1, 2026 at 2:31 pm #315838If he’s any sense he won’t bother with that daft NL Cup again next season.
February 1, 2026 at 4:49 pm #315847If the manager or the players are not to bothered then tell the supporters and that allows them to save money.
Cannot accept results like this. If you are a professional then you give 100% in EVERY game.
All the work to build gates can be swiftly wasted.4 users thanked author for this post.

All the work to build gates can be swiftly wasted.Absolutely agree .. waste of fans hard earned cash if the team aint up for it… anyway lets all dress up daft and have a 80s 90s party EH ??.. im guessing not so many player interacting gleefully at this event after such a shitshow .
All of a sudden after the event (defeat) its always the same from the same fans hoping for a win to get to Wemblee
pleased we lost this tinpot cup comp… because
concentrate on the league
no re scheduled NL fixtures
less risk of injuriesBla Bla Bla

Sounds like a repeat of the Warrington Rylands game last season which was pathetic.
February 1, 2026 at 6:28 pm #315860I wouldn’t hold your breath regarding opting out of the National League Cup, Butler been keen previously to see positives from it. We should be nowhere near it in my opinion. Maybe we should reinstate a proper reserve side next season to give fringe players game time rather than make eight changes in a competitive fixture? To those who say we only got Mahady on loan as we played Leeds, should we not be up to date on who the likes of Leeds have available for loan anyway, just a thought.

February 1, 2026 at 6:36 pm #315861The only good things about the NL cup is it’s played midweek so no cancelling of games, and there’s more money in it than the trophy.
Mahadey played today for Leeds under 21s.February 2, 2026 at 3:56 am #315868I can’t get why we almost invariably play so very badly against much weaker teams. It happens in almost all of our cup games.
It’s not as if we put out teams consisting of total dross.February 2, 2026 at 7:16 am #315869Opposition want it more? Age old adage.
February 2, 2026 at 8:07 am #315870There are football matches, and then there are life experiences. The weekends match was very much the latter, the kind that makes you stare into the middle distance afterwards, questioning not just tactics, but your own decision-making process that led you here in the first place.
From the off, we looked hesitant, sloppy, and oddly surprised to find ourselves in possession of a football. Passes went astray, touches bounced off players, and any sense of urgency was filed away for later, presumably for the next match.
Horsham didn’t need to be spectacular. They just needed to be organised and awake, which turned out to be more than enough. Every time we threatened something vaguely positive, it fizzled out like a damp firework. Defensively, we had the structural integrity of a deckchair. Not so much opened up as politely invited to fall apart. Up front, we huffed, puffed, and mostly kicked the ball straight at people in different coloured shirts.
The second half promised a reaction. It delivered more of the same, just with added desperation and fewer ideas. By the final whistle, the overriding emotion wasn’t anger, it was acceptance. The kind only long-suffering fans truly understand.
Fair play to Horsham. They knew what they were doing. As for us? Another afternoon reminding ourselves that supporting Scunthorpe United is less a hobby and more a test of emotional resilience.
