It appears Mr Hilton has agreed to sit down with these guys to discuss things in the next few days , should be quite interesting.

To start to sell this 1899 share gig and then announce the staff seal clubbing and move day to day operations and training away from GP to Ilkeston is scandalous a disgrace and IMO all 51 should be refunded in full.
What about anyone paying for a season ticket already .. will they receive the same match day experience? and if in the future any fixtures are played at ILk will season ticket holders be reimbursed travel expenses as im sure if they knew of this announcement prior to paying if may of made a difference .

The timing all stinks .. the handling of everything including signings , fan updates and even how Nelson found out JD was in the building reeks of a total shambles..

WHEN WILL THIS SHIT END ????

We’re very nervous now regarding buying season tickets. Thought it was a two way thing, benefiting fans and club. Gets money in for the club during the summer and allows loyal fans who like to keep their seats, which they have probably sat in for years. There can’t be hardly any chairman don’t want to sell season tickets. Let’s all buy them and tell him to shove Ilkeston. I’m sick of him speaking the word Ilkeston, we are SUFC. If he can’t move on from them he should have stayed there. Swann still owns everything bar our Club name. If Swann had suggested moving training away from our ground there would have been uproar. Still no mention of improvements to Glanford Park which are needed and still just the talk of buildings going up around our stadium on the car parks and training pitch. Just tell me what’s changed to the benefit of our Club. In my opinion nothing. No academy, no car parking and no training at GP. Just buildings going up on our club’s land and I fear everything will eventually be moved to Ilkeston.

Cant disagree with any of that post… hands up if you think our new savior n owner DH is a big of a slippery buggar as my old gran used to say.
Call me an old synic but if you can smell a rat theres usually a rat somewhere hanging about.

Selling shares for cash to own GP that he doesnt own himself yet

    1899 x 1899 equates to 3mil cash a familiar number

start to split up the club siting poor training facilities that have and will serve the club quite adequately over many years and still could do saying its to save cash amongst other reasons.

Not wanting sell season tickets or on a cash gig only

    Cash on the gate returns

land to be sold for development .. cash

    Theres a theme appearing here

I too im fed up of him constantly talking about Ikeston and his demi god status there , i do think he has a plan alas long term it wont all be for the benefit of SUFC and whatever it takes any move away from Scunny should be protested against.

As is the norm at SUFC its a clusterfook.

We trained on Wharton’s land and in the rat infested shed whilst we were in the Championship, but let’s not forget we had two years at the top of league one using the current facility.

Exactly ..DH words re the current training facility being unfit for purpose hold little water when its been fine for so many years and possibly way better than many other clubs in and around the same level NL / NLN

I was not aware training was at Grove Wharf on a regular basis

Even with the club in such a shit state all this talk about the importance of training does make me chortle.

Sub standard players, inexperienced youngsters and more worrying way too many at the club on loan who dont give a toss and zero pride wearing the shirt as means little to them other than a wage packet.

This bunch could be given the England training set up and throw in Pep Guardiola and would it make an haypeth ov difference due to level of talent they seem to have (see polishing a turd thread) ..yet now after relegation training is of such importance it needs to be moved.

opening phase of a chess game .. and im willing to bet given the option or a vote a very high percentage of Scunny fans would not want this to happen and for the club in its entirety to remain in the town and local community…

IMO over time a few months maybe a year general interest and the fan base will just dwindle to the point where the club will just be a non entity.

Just turned 16. Makes Hilton’s decision to do away with the academy look better if we can’t hold onto the under 16s.

Might be that he knew you was closing yours though and thats the only reason he left -suppose a 2 year contract at 16 is a decent amount of time to see if he can make the grade . People saying we are in for another one on the fishies (not sure how reliable ) – that we are in for Shrimpton ,is he any good ?

Yes half decent player when used correctly (jd???) .. should fit in well at the cods with a name like SHRIMPton.

I wish all the youngsters who leave the club well and regardless where they go hope they progress.

im quite surprised as to the seemingly unfazed opinions from Iron fans on DH announcement to move training to Ilkeston PURELY ON THE BACK OF THE CURRENT TRAINING FACILITY IS FIT FOR PURPOSE ,this is my issue its been ok for years of success and more recently abject failures but why the sudden need after relegation to move ? there are local options but they are being ignored , yes a severe staff cull is needed but IMO SUFC in its entirety should stay in the town and i see this as the first step for that not to happen.
Opening GP only on match days is just gash and the local fan base will drift away as will any grass roots interest that was seen at the recent home game.

There is more to this training move than meets the eye .. reading other people (not connected to the club) on it all is rather sobering.

MY possible outcome senarios ….. call it conspiracy theory or not its what i think may unfold.

    Training to Ilk
    Match days only at GP
Pre season and cup games played at ILK
All surrounding land inc car park SOLD leaving the ground an unsustainable poorly maintained isolated eyesore possibly still with Swans name tagged to it…within 1 or 2 years that too will be sold and demolished and replaced with retail units or even a slaughter house such as the hatchet job done on the club.
No new training facility will ever be sourced in Scunny regardless if rented of developed by the club.
In time everything will move to ILK and at that point a phoenix club will emerge in Scunny much the same as Bury.

On the footballing side .. all the youngsters like Wilson , Poulter , Foster will go with very few of the others remaining , JD with a totally blank canvas so at least several years in NLN.

Astute businessman or savior DH bought SUFC , saved the club, alas maybe his property developing background seeing the potential swayed him knowing if the club get relegated n go tits up he could always revert to plan B .. merge move with pockets full of doe from land sales n development at the expense of the football club he ‘bought to save”..i say this as a fellow business man operating in a very difficult part of the world and in a volatile market.. theres always a plan B

Finally ..i truly hope im totally wrong and SUFC remain in the town, so much history and memories from my days at TOSG and GP ..its so sad to see what has become of this great little club.

Wonder if the Iron Bar will survive the cull ? … obviously can be staffed on match days etc but stocking maybe an issue especially re draft beers, make sure the kegs are empty before you leave boys.
Re the restaurant.. is the food any good ? only seen pics but the bangers n mash looked tasty though on one occasion it was commented on YT the place stunk light an old peoples home.

GP maintenance , security, grounds staff the pitch ..that fantastic new scoreboard will it all fall into disrepair and become unsustainable so another option can be found ?
Sponsorship deals , advertising surely all this will be effected if mothballing the ground for days weeks months actually happens ..let alone the local fan base dying off..

Why do people think the end goal is to merge us with Ilkeston? What sense does that make? I agree we need to be sceptical, and I will only support a short term base at Ilkeston. However, I cannot see the sense in moving a club with more potential than Ilkeston to an area where they can’t get more support.

Wimbledon to Milton Keynes worked to some degree because London was saturated with clubs and Milton Keynes is a big place with fewer draws from the outside (not like that was right). Ilkeston has little pull in an area containing Derby, Notts Forest and County. Scunthorpe has more potential than that.

if i thought any move to Ilkeston was short term or temporary i would not be so vocal on the subject , alas once its happened i cant see it being reversed and more so the owner spending money on a training facility in Scunny just wont happen also after the current training location has been used for so many years it just strikes me strange that all of a sudden its deemed not fit for purpose was it not this pitch used for training during the clubs happier times ??

Whatever Hilton wants to do its his call but all this has put a dampener on the takeover and pissed on my chips whilst back in Blighty during next season.

Non of us have a crystal ball so lets wait see .. alas i do think this move will diminish local support and SUFC GP at some point in the future will be no more..

sad but only my opinion i hope im wrong.

    lets just note ..

its quite possible you will get 2 away fixtures back to back with a home postponement due to bad weather or cup action so GP could realistically not a see a competitive game for a 3 weeks or even a month… the ground will just go to rack n ruin as will the local fan base ..

IMO this will just lead to the the desired end result of Ilkeston Iron …which in my book they can stick up their arse.

SUFC should stay in Scunny , shit training facility or not its be ok for how many years already yet now its deemed not fit for purpose as we drop lower down the football pyramid .. this move is the first move in the chess game i believe will come to fruition ending in a merger and Scunthorpe not having a club at all.

Yes ive slept on Hiltons words and even more so now im very skeptical as to his real divide n conquer motives..

Time will tell … lets suck it n see as mu old gran used to say!!

It appears from DH words the academy hasnt worked and with funding being lost thought a hard decision its a no brainer to keep it going and would be a drain on funds that could go elsewhere.

    IFA said:
I’m seeing all this as the beginning of the end for SUFC in its own right with an MK Dons style gig coming to fruition in the future.

…not only is it embarrassing being a fan on the football side there seems to be too many shady decisions being made re the clubs future within the town.

Develop retail outlets on the training pitch & car parks and GP is a blot on the landscape. A carbuncle that reduces the footfall to the surrounding stores every other week.
Young mums ain’t going to take their kids down there when it’s awash with beer glugging footy fans.
GP is on a countdown clock and ultimately will be demolished to make way for more outlets.

Sadly re your last sentence Rene ….thats areal possibility ..

This ILK training move is the first step in the beginning of the end .. may take awhile but its coming.

GP will without any doubt fall into disrepair
Staffing issues on match days with become an issue
There are a multitude of ways GP can and will become defunct to suit possible future plans.

BTW i may be mistaken but DH on paper doesnt own the ground yet?? and if any problems do arise Iron fans may be making the trip ti Ilkeston to watch their team.

1899 gig is dead… that didnt last long.

I’m suggesting this is the thin end of the wedge I-A, as are others. It’s a view based on a number of things that have happened / are happening, it’s not a conspiracy theory.

The strangest ‘takeover’ of a football club since the inception of the Football League.

If pre-season friendlies take place at Ilkeston in the summer – would you travel from Scunny to give your support at the games?

What if you all toe the line and the games go ahead and a couple of thousand of you make the journey?
What if it’s declared to be a roaring success and that ground sharing with Ilkeston is beneficial for both clubs and the way forward?

The Wombles became the Dons of MK.

Will we become the Iron of Ilkeston?

I think thats where this is heading .. some kind of ground share with SUFC and Ilk combining .. i will say now i very much doubt a new training facility will be sourced and constructed in Scunny once its moved its gone that plan will simply get swept under the carpet and forgotten.

I would also bet my smaller left but perfectly formed left testicle that some pre season friendlies will be played at ILK.

ANY MOVE TO ILKESTON SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING PERIOD… yes sadly lay off some staff at GP but fine a training facility in Scunny and keep the club in the town .. im seeing all this as the beginning of the end for SUFC in its own right with an MK Dons style gig coming to fruition in the furture.

Sadly after the joy of getting rid of Swan (nearly) with all this negativity, changes and whats happened in the last few weeks my re enthused support of the club is waning, not only is it embarassing being a fan on the football side there seems to be too many shady decisions being made re the clubs future within the town.

Make a cracking documentary one day !!

I think you mean ‘wasn’t’ WG. Agree, a lot more to this than being about facilities. With training and operations moving to Ilkeston and GP only open on matchdays, the club is all but leaving the town. How long before opening GP on matchdays becomes ‘unsustainable’ too? A sceptic might say, ‘can’t you see what’s happening here?’

Agree with this totally hence my earlier post directly after listening to Hilton .. this whole ILK move for training has more to it than just cos of a crap training pitch at Scunny, clearing the decks , land around GP for development virtually closing GP except match days all suspect in my opinion.. hey silly me when DH bought the club (nearly not yet complete) i though it was with the intention to keep it where it belongs actually in the town of Scunthorpe not move it away ,dissect and de staff it.

As a footnote ..this 1899 share scheme must be dead in the water now , who in the right mind would pay for a share of it when quite possibly will be rolling in tumbleweed 6 days per week before it becomes impractical and games moved to …….. ?? Ilkeston by any chance ??

I want to support DH but not a fan of the decision to move to anything ILK .. a location in Scunny should be found and GP “office” remain open that way the town still has a club.

I could see many supporters drifting away upon relegation being confirmed and DHs future plans coming in.

Still not happy with the season tickets- supporters should be able to commit to a season ticket using a card in 2023. The other option means paying an extra tenner each game for step 2 non league football which will put many off.

Understand the reason for moving the training facility as it stands- however, developing a facility within Scunthorpe should be a priority.

Always knew the academy was going, it’s a shame but it hasn’t produced anything of note for a long time now and will turn into money pit once the EFL funding goes.

Never nice hearing staff will be losing their jobs, but again, the reality of the situation is we are soon to be competing in a league with Buxton and Farsley; we have to become sustainable and that’s going to upset a few along the way.

Not sure how the signing of cat 1 academy will work. Are we permanently signing them and then loaning them out for development ?

Can’t believe the playing staff budget is 30% of turnover, no wonder we are witnessing the dross we are.

I may have been mistaken but i heard it as 30% of the wage bill was players ..not turnover .. that said if correct the other 70% goes on salaries for all other no playing staff so its sad but plenty of room for a cull.
Dont like the sound of this training in ILK marlarkey .. sounds a bit iffy to me.. but i didnt buy the club Hilts did …. wasnt he in The Great Escape ??? (not this year).. he did cross the wire of death though

listened to the whole interview and i was fine with all DH comments until he got to the manager and backing JD, obviously he must of had gummy bears in his lug holes and wearing those special rose tinted glasses not seeing the glaring selection and lacking tactical awareness issues most of us see as clear as a wart on yer helmet.

Im sure i heard him say he was relieved this season was nearly over .. correct ?

DH is worth backing , seems he has a plan which include JD n Co so lets unify and see where they can take SUFC next season.

With this current crop both on n off the field I honestly cant see us picking up many more points from the remaining fixtures maybe the odd 1 or 2..

We are all but gone now
next step is to make it mathematically certain which will happen rather swiftly.
play out the rest of the season with little pride
no end of season party, no bonuses
loan players all drift off leaving the bare bones
A few players will be sold moved on snapped up by NL n L2 clubs leaving even less
a hard season in NLN regional football with the real possibility of falling further and off the cliff into the abyss joining all the obscure names you only recognize from the FA giant killer list..
Torguay may still join us in the drop and looking at them and numerous other sides in NLN probably be there or lower for many years.

Reality is kicking in .. we are doomed , crap and whose to say we have reached the bottom of the clubs decline yet .

JDs tactics n decision making is very suspect, too many players who on loan , short contracts who dont give a shit… no goals in this team and when manage to get a sniff of a chance its missed

It’s the same old story give the manager 10 games next season and then reassess. In reality Nelson should have been in charge until the season end then depending on how he/we had done a change or not could/should have been made IMO.

Yes spot on Nelson should of been in charge until the end of the season ..then depending the outcome make changes or dont .. the gamble to bring in JD and a raft of new faces has backfired.

    It’s worth noting that there is little between the two managers (Nelson & Dean);

    Nelson’s Record : Pld 8, W2, D2, L4 Pts 8 F8 A13 GD-5
    Dean’s Record (so far): Pld 11, W3, D2, L6 Pts 11 F12 A19 GD-7

They both average 1 point per match (Niel Cox averaged .86).

Yeah but Cox was reeelly reeelly brave !!!

So Admiral Nelson, ok mate Dean and Calamity Cox were all shite .. but i think Hill must of taken top prize for lowest points per game ratio ??

I like many others just dont get JDs tactics but the buck stops with him and simply not good enough. NLN next season is a shocker and whose to say the decline will stop there… could well end up in NLN for a very long time.

Well done to the fans again for another big and noisy turn out .. how many will remain loyal after being let down again.

Torquay this Saturday will be “interesting” to say the least …….. NO NO NO im not gonna say another must win game as we just dont win any of them… Jarvis to come back n score would be a kick in the gonads unless hes injured not sure.

The match commentary via Humberside is a god send for me but Cox makes my piss boil using the same terms n words repeatedly .. 10 times in the first half against Notts he used Brave or braver and as commented reeelly reeelly is also a favourite. It seems a distant memory when he was the gaffa and the 6-1 away result at footballing power house Harrogate Town alas we werent to know at that time via the Swans Cox , Hill n co just how far we would decline to end up where we are today.

As mentioned on another thread, i want to support JD but with his tactics and tinkering due to so many players coming in he is giving fans so much ammunition not to.

We wont survive this season thats pretty clear and next season in the NLN a lot will depend on who is still around before any sort of prediction can be made ..either way it wont be easy be maintain a top 5 place in a league is harder than it appears ..remember we were told the exact same line re the NL this season and wow hasnt that come to fruition.

im sticking with my 2-1 scoreline either way depending which Iron turn up so it could be a draw then which appears the bookies favourite scoreline ..
Sadly whilst all remaining fixtures are winnable its a tad unlikely to say the least , beating York Torguay , Dorking Gateshead wont be easy as they too are fighting for their NL survival that still leaves Aldershot , Oldham (Nuttal revisted) and Southend to navigate and hope those around faulter….

HARRY POTTER COULDNT MAKE THAT HAPPEN … COULD HE ??
