We should be petitioning the Football League to look into our Clubs recent and disastrous affairs. Why cant the Football Trust get involved and start a petition and also get in touch with the national and local press.
The Football League is essentially a members’ body and those members are the clubs, so it’s unlikely those turkeys are going to be voting for it. The game needs proper independent governance.

while one was ‘gushing’ because they are a fan the other was more impartial and mentioned that over the past few years John Fenty had prevented the club from ‘going under’.
Was the supporter of Fenty of the same political stripe as the Conservative council member for Humberston and New Waltham ward? Just out of curiosity.
I reckon most Grimsby fans would rather be in the Conference under their new ownership than spluttering along in the League under Fenty.

I went to Bottesford Town at the start of the season and I reckon I’ll be going there more often next season than Glanford Park.
Amazing what difference a good pitch makes to those non-league sides, both trying to pass it around and not just hoof it to the big lad. Some really well-worked goals by both teams.
This is a brilliant game so far, more entertaining than anything I’ve seen from the Iron this season!
Thanks Mick, good stuff for a rainy bank holiday afternoon!
A pasty at the Memorial Ground too, always a good thing!
I don’t disagree with you on many of those points!
Don’t rise to him Pat, there’s no point arguing among ourselves, we need to be united.
He needs to win back the trust of supporters, which does matter even for a small club.
No, it matters ESPECIALLY at a small club. Because big clubs can afford not to give a damn (as shown last week by their plans to shove off to a private league of their own) but clubs like ours need to engage with their fans. Break that trust and those fans might realise that it’s not worth parting with a large chunk of their hard-earned every week.

What do we want?
Focussing any protests on the players is absolutely pointless because a) Most of them won’t be here next season and b) they’re a symptom, not a cause.
Support the team, protest the club.

Blistering stuff from Bob, well written piece.

Players & manager should be left out of any protest in my opinion.

Maybe he was pushed but I felt that Hurst had made the decision to quit.
Difficult to know, of course.Didn’t Swann make it very clear in the press earlier this season that he had sacked Hurst?
Cox may not be the answer but nor is sacking him in my opinion.
Better late than never! Good to have you onside, comrade.
I certainly don’t blame him for trying to stop the financial bleeding.
I am glad he is not spending at the levels we saw a few years ago.

I’ll go back to a game or two when we’re able to, in order to catch up with friends I haven’t seen for such a long time. But I can’t see myself going back regularly.
I’m genuinely interested to hear reasons from the (so far) 6 people who’ve voted to say they supported Swann remaining in charge of our club. For what reason? Lack of an alternative? Belief in his vision? Encouraged by his track record?
I would actually like Grimsby to stop up, it’s more fun having your rivals in the same division, but I know who I’ll choose if it comes down to them or us!

You really see Grimsby winning their last 3 games?
He cares.
Do we all believe that Eisa cares even a third as much?Under Hurst, we saw the pure quality he can bring to a side. Of all those OOC, he is the only one I am desperate to keep. He is consistently MOTM – maybe as much as 80% of the time.
A terrific player who does not deserve to be surrounded by incompetents. If that’s the case, how come he’s delivered next to nothing this season? He’s scored as many goals as Jordan Clarke & Harrison McGahey for goodness sake!
I don’t really care if Eisa only “cares” a third as much, however you measure that, I can remember crucial goals from him at Vale, away to Harrogate, home to Grimsby, Bradford & Barrow. He’s our top scorer. He must have a few assists too.
If Gilliead is as good as you claim and has the work ethic to match, surely he should be shining in this terrible team?
Some interesting points raised by Josh, the biggest issues I can see to that would be the fact that most councils are seriously cash-strapped and just don’t have the money for a project like this, plus I seem to remember that relations between the club & the council aren’t exactly rosey….

There was talk a few months ago about possible players of the season,
“Loft a shoe in” and “Gilliead easily L1 standard” for example.
Anybody got any thoughts now?Just thinking about this again, it should be Eisa. I know he’s not very popular but, ultimately, his goals have largely come at key times and have won us enough games to keep us up. Without that contribution, we’d be sunk (although with a more consistent contribution we might be a lot better off!).
Karacan, Eisa & Van Veen? McGahey? Clarke? O’Malley? Possibly Beestin actually.
Like you say though, none of them have shown it consistently, with the exception of Karacan.
But I think Gilliead is very over-rated. He has barely scored or created a goal this season and for my money he’s been churning out some very modest performances all season. I thought he looked good in centre mid early on in the season but as a winger I don’t think he affects games. The fact he’s even being talked about as our best player is a reflection of the situation we’re in, I think.
The problem here is that many are arguing two opposites: resentment of the £11 million debt yet forgetting that they were the very ones calling for more money to be spent to prove the club’s ‘ambition.’
Many did but some of us were very uncomfortable about it at the time, wondering where it would all lead to and suffering the consequences of asking those questions.
The sums being spent on wages around 2016-2018 were extraordinary and even if we had got promoted to the Championship, I’m not sure what the plan would have been. Spend even more? Maybe we should be glad Millwall & Rotherham beat us.
Someone mentioned on a thread that we now have bigger problems than running out of pies at half-time, and that poster is right, but I still think those sorts of minor issues are a symptom of bigger problems. After all, since 2013, what has actually improved at Glanford Park?

If Gilliead is our best player, then Conference really is our standard.
The Southend story is an all too familiar one. Reliant entirely on the patronage of one man yet trapped in a painful and predictable spiral of decline that is a result of the same man’s chronic mismanagement……
And how long have there been stories of them trying to build a new stadium….?

Swann’s just been on Humberside & you’ll all be pleased to know that it’s all absolutely fine.

It’s certainly true that the lack of solidarity among English football fans is why we’ve been so taken for granted compared to, say, German fans, who actually stick together and stand up for their rights.
I realise this is a bit rich for me to write after laughing at PL fans at the start of the week but – ultimately – it is the way we need to go.
