We’ve had a fair few penalties not given, when they probably should have been, over the last few years. It’s about time the swings and roundabouts swung and revolved our way.
I agree that you get the rough with the smooth, just pointing out that this was a pretty rough decision for Tranmere and worth noting because I guarantee you in a few weeks someone will be moaning that we never get decisions!
He also got, what, two or three goals off the bench last season? Not the stuff of legends but it’s at least something and there’s no reason why he can’t improve, given the chance.
Did you hear about the magic tractor? It drove down the lane and turned into a field.
Pretty tough ask for Jarvis to lead the line after so long out with injury and, presumably, virtually no reserve games to get back up to speed in.
Tuesday night was a disgrace, practically a team full of youngsters and the brain dead decided the best way to ‘support’ them was to chant about the Swanns.
Good. Support the team, demand better from the club.

My agenda is that I think these B-team games are terrible for clubs like ours and by going to them you are giving them legitimacy. Even beyond that, I can’t see why anyone would want to watch a game against a B-team, it’s barely more than a friendly. Especially given the XI we put out.

Each match has seen at times poor referee and linesman decisions.
What’s that got to do with the club ownership?
There are no goals in the team except for Loft or Beestin, though Scrimshaw looks useful.
So, no goals, apart from the goals?
Look, I broadly agree with you about the issues around the club, I think we’re in a deep mess and the buck stops at the top.

August 25, 2021 at 9:01 am in reply to: Out of the second of three cups in the first round tonight. #212554Hard to be too critical of any Scunthorpe team losing to an expensively assembled collection of the world’s best young players. The gap between rich & poor has never been bigger in football. Everything is set up to favour the big guys who have unlimited wealth from nation states, whilst we barely have a p to p in.
I’m still really disappointed fans go to these games, I can’t understand why they do.
I was unexpectedly free on Saturday afternoon and it briefly occurred to me that I could go to Glanford Park but I quickly decided not to bother. Leaving aside the fact I wasn’t even sure if you could just turn up and pay on the gate, I just didn’t fancy it what with the state of the Iron Bar, the flooded toilets, the scruffiness of everything, all in return for the privilege of paying north of £20.
I don’t really mind the team being crap, I’ve never been a Scunny fan because of the superb football on offer. But I’m not going to be taken for granted.

Can anyone actually name anything that has improved at the club at this point than the point when the owners took over? The only thing I can honestly think of is the electronic ticketing system!
In what other ways are we better off as fans/the club/ the experience as a whole?????

I’ve wondered this for years. If you look at his Q&A when he took over and the promises in there, you’ll not recognise much of it!

Lol, let’s shout at the poorly paid staff eh Awaywego?

Surely has to make more of an impact than Cordner & Vincent.
To be fair, Cordner definitely made an impact. Never heard of Vincent!
Less than a couple of weeks ago 800 Swindon fans were wanting to play us every week.
And 800 of them had made a long trip just to see us play, you can’t argue with evidence like that!
Will he go 4-4-2 at home though, we’ll see on Saturday.
Will be tough without the 2 to go up front!
Defensively, I thought he was pretty suspect last season but he offered something useful going forward.
It seems clear to me that, given the effort require to play wingback, Cox is going to use O’Malley & Thompson interchangeably this season, which makes a lot of sense.
It would be interesting to know who wrote this and if Ian is just a pseudonym for a local journo as he seems quite au fait with what’s going, he may even read this board.
He’s a blogger from Worthing who has been writing about clubs in trouble for over a decade. I believe he did a number of articles chronicling the decline of Boston back in the day.
Pretty accurate summary of how we got here. Interesting to see it from an outside point of view too.

Supposedly he was blamed for a goal last season so the only thing that makes sense is that Cox doesn’t trust him to do his work defensively, pick up his man at corners etc and considers him a liability.
Jeez, if that’s the criteria, how do we manage to put a team out every week?
Don’t you think that if Cox or the rest of the staff had seen anything in training or matches to think he was worth picking that they would give him a go??
There’s literally no one else, how bad can he be? He didn’t embarrass himself in his couple of appearances last season, did he?
99% of people on here have agreed in various other threads that he isn’t anywhere near good enough, so why play him just because we can ? Chuck Jarvis into that bracket aswell. Both as useless as each other.
Not good enough, never will be, keep them as far away from the first team as possible !
To do anything other would be strange and ridiculous in my opinion.
What? Are you serious? We literally have no one else who can play up front and we have a player on our books, being paid a wage, and you still don’t want to play him?
It’s a fair question Cass. I can understand Cox being hesitant to chuck him in at the deep end but, like you say, how else is he going to improve?
But some of those did get games and they didn’t get overlooked when we had no other players to play in their position!
I agree the signing seems odd but now that he’s here, why not give him a go?
Has Jessop ever made an appearance in the League? If not, then I don’t think he counts towards the squad cap.
I really don’t understand why you continue to beat supporters over the head about situations they clearly have very little influence over.
Because we have terrible fans who are always far too quick to get the on the backs of young players and who, weirdly, seem to worship old players who have had their day (Torpey & Bishop spring to mind). Goode was a very promising player and one of the club’s canniest signings, whether or not the fans had any impact on him being sold to Northampton, as supporters we didn’t help him.

Is Damien Henderson still available.
Or Darius Henderson?
Not had a good record with strikers called Henderson!
I knew it wouldn’t take long, and it is the typical knee jerk reaction that is played out on this board year in year out. How many managers can we afford to keep hiring them paying off?
Disappointed that the op didn’t entitle this thread ‘Cox Out!’
I agree with every word of this, especially the last two.

I’m confused, I thought I heard someone say it was a really good deal?
Meanwhile, Jarvis is also nowhere to be seen and I for one have not seen him mentioned anywhere so far this season, or for several months for that matter.
I believe we have some decent players and they are good enough for this league.
Who would they be? Maybe Alfie Beestin, George Taft, Perry given his past? Not sure many others would attract many offers if they were made available tomorrow.
Completely agree about Mark Lillis, I thought that was a very strange decision to bring him back.

Especially since 442 has vanished after 1 game and we’re back to Loft upfront on his own which we showed repeatedly last season doesn’t work.
Cox has learned nothing apparently.
Given the lack of strikers, can we not go 90s-Sertori-stylee and put Onarise up front? I understand why Cox things playing three centre-backs makes sense given his lack of other options but I genuinely reckon we’d offer more threat with Onarise alongside Loft. Let’s go full long ball!

Where does this end??
National League.
You sure about that? I reckon the drop could be bigger than just one division.
