He must have something lined up to be walking out, surely? He’s done a very good job there.

Meant to be a captain and I’ve never seen him rally his teammates or give them a kick up the arse for a mistake.

Because, as we all know, shouting is the only way to be a captain.

Previous to that, like many, I had every confidence in Swann, but his removal of the oap concession**, closely followed by the failure of either him or Rodwell to reply to my letters, soured me towards him.

Really? I’d seen through him long before then.

Wilson is just 1 example of yet another promising youngster overlooked

We should definitely be making more of our youth team but at the same time it says a lot about where we are that a completely unproven teenager is our big hope at the moment.

I don’t disagree with either of you – I just feel Alcy has very slightly over-laboured this point and I was wondering if some letters on the doormat might help him get some sort of closure.

Would you like me to write you a letter Alcy? You seem so hurt and spurned by the lack of response.

I’m certain that there are more than two teams performing worse than dear old Scunny

I know it’s only September but the league table currently disagrees with you.

The problem lies with the chairman and his team (family.)

This is exactly where all our frustration should be directed.

A couple of players who can lift the team, make things happen and most importantly, stay fit would make all the difference

I’m reminded of something Laws said on the Bru podcast interview, along the lines of the fact that he’d been spreading his budget fairly evenly for years but, at the start of the 04/05 season, he realised that spending a few more quid on a good keeper could make far more difference than spending that money elsewhere. Result? In came Musselwhite and along with a couple of other shrewd (and experienced) signings, the defence was transformed from the one that nearly cost us our League status the previous season.

Why does our recruitment continue to be so poor?

Because in life you only get out what you put in and we aren’t putting enough in?

I also note that one of the two players you list as a success isn’t currently in the team either! So that success rates falls a bit further….

Is he a striker? Or a winger? Or a forward? Not really sure what to make of him myself.

Good work with “Sticky”, can’t knock that.

All I want is for people to go and support the team rather than making petty excuses for not going i.e tatty flags, dirty seats, drinks in plastic glasses etc.

Happy to support us away from home but I’m not prepared to keep handing over money to the club at the moment. Each to their own, that’s my choice.

Look, in the past you might have had a point but over the last 30 years football clubs have decided they want customers instead of fans. They’ve put prices up massively compared with inflation. That’s their decision but if you do that, your customers are going to start wanting more in return for their money. If I go to watch Bottesford Town for £5, my expectations are very different to having to hand over £20+ at Glanford Park.

Look at it this way: if we’re trying to be “sustainable”, there are two ways to do that: cut costs & increase income. I can see the cost cutting but what is the club doing to increase income? At least the shirts seem better than the Rodwell era, that’s a step in the right direction. But compare us to a much smaller club like Accrington, where the owner makes community work the centre of everything they do, where they give shirts to every schoolkid in the town, where they spent last season investing in new facilities like a bigger bar, where the owner makes a real effort to engage with supporters.

Are you telling me we can’t compete with Accrington?

I’ll support the players on the pitch, it’s the people in the boardroom I’m angry with.

I never thought I’d be jealous of the Cods but looking at their packed ground, exciting football (John McAtee at the heart of everything!), new owners and new catering, there is clearly a lot to be envious of when it comes to our fishy friends down the A180.

The midfield balance is completely out though. I’d much rather play with wingers personally with Hippolyte and Bunn out wide and have Beestin partnering pugh/Wood in the middle.

But that will require playing a back 4 and I can’t see Cox going for that at the moment. He obviously wants to play all of his 3 main centre backs.

We may as well go more positive as we’re getting well beat anyway with the negative approach.

Couldn’t agree more! I’ve said it before, at least the team that nearly got relegated in 2004 was fun to watch!

That’s the least I expect ferrite, to be entertained, that’s why you won’t see me there at the moment

Fair enough, we all bring something different to football. Personally, I see football far more as the social experience that you describe in the second part of your post.

Don’t go because we’re playing shite or your not being entertained, but because Swann is chairman give over.

Eh? Why would anyone expect to be entertained watching 4th division football?

Protesting the running of the football club is a perfectly reasonable explanation of people staying away.

I would like to see Scrimshaw, or Loft for that matter, given a go alongside Jarvis. I don’t think anyone’s expecting Jarvis to score hatfulls of goals but he could be a handy foil for a strike partner.

Awaywego, I am happy to stake a fair wager that, if we get relegated to the Conference, we won’t be getting 6,000+ for a Tuesday night game in our first season in that division.

I get your passion for the club WG, I really do, but you have to treat employees as people. You’ll get more out of employees if you treat them with a bit of respect.

And, anyway, looking at the squad, I am not persuaded that a change of manager will make that much difference to our results, especially if the claims that the loanees have to play are true.

Everyone was telling me a few weeks ago how we had so much team spirit this season and how we wouldn’t fall apart like last time around. I can’t help notice that the arrival of two no-mark loanee midfielders seems to have coincided with our recent defeats and the team seemingly falling apart.

And on top of this, I still only make it two goals from open play so far this season, not a good stat.

Not sure why people think Loft & Scrimshaw will be such a good partnership. Everyone seems to think Loft is a target man but he absolutely isn’t, his hold-up play is terrible and his best work comes from running in behind. Just because he’s tall, people think we can just whack the ball up to him. Hopefully he can still dovetail with Scrimshaw but I’m not yet convinced they’ll be the perfect partnership some hope for.

From what I’ve seen, I think he’s one of the few success stories of this season. He’s made some crucial saves to earn us points in some matches and has not been to blame for the way the defence has fallen apart in recent weeks.

Anyway, I thought Exeter played really well. Fan owned club as well

6 youth team graduates in their side too, apparently, including Jay who did all the damage. More lessons to be learned there.

Oh, and they’ve rebuilt the away end at St James Park in the last few years too!

I know it will be bloody hard and the timing is rotten. Look, it’s bloody terrible in fact but what can anybody really do ?

Treat someone like a human being? Give the man a couple of weeks off to grieve, to organise everything that comes with a family bereavement, to attend the funeral? I mean, is that too much to ask?

From the stupid name of the past-it stadium,

I agree with the stupid name but I don’t believe GP to be past it. In need of TLC? Of course. Could benefit from a few new features (bigger bar, better seats, etc.)? Undoubtedly. But past it? Not having it.

Stelling must be wetting himself laughing when he looks at the clubs results and the steady decline since his chat with the chairman.

The writing was on the wall at that moment – I thought sacking Wilcox was a bad decision at the time and the reaction to media criticism of that decision was also concerning.
