I never understood it in the past but assumed there were “reasons” but surely there cannot be a justification at the moment?
I noticed this on the highlights and thought it was ridiculous – there is a whole stand there, why not let people spread out? They don’t pen everyone in in the home ends, do they?

On my reckoning we’ll now reach the massive total of 36 points this season.
Won’t keep us up.
What’s the record lowest number of points ever, barring deductions? We do set records under Swanny, don’t we?It doesn’t matter though, does it? It only matters that we get more points than 2 other teams and fortunately Oldham & Carlisle are almost as bad as us. It may not be enough to save us but it’s starting to look distinctly like 2 from those 3, with Stevenage an outside candidate to get sucked in.
I completely agree we will probably need 40-45 points to stay up but you never know….

Watson had little to do apart from pick the ball out of the net and watch some late shots flash wide. Did nothing wrong though and good to see him back from his injury.
For all that we’ve improved, and we have, we’re still crap. We dominated that game but never created the chances to win it. Loft was even more anonymous than Green, surely that has to be one of his last games in a Scunthorpe shirt?
Great minds clearly thing alike. Though I’d say he was showing promise during the closing games of Cox’s reign (e.g. home to Crawley, pass for Scrimshaw’s goal).
There were some terrible performances on that pitch: Loft awful, Scrimshaw ineffective, Green inexistent, Beestin aimless, Millen hopeless, O’Malley gormless, Taft asleep.
And yet Stevenage were worse and we should have won. But we didn’t. And that’s why we’re going down.
We look so much better under Hill but we’re still crap. The defence is terrible under any high ball and going forward we are so laboured.
Hippolyte’s been one of our better players in recent months. Make of that what you will!
I assume that his loan has been cancelled, although that isn’t entirely clear from what I’ve read.
and the undoubted problematic issues specific to the Iron are also fairly set in the wider context of ridiculous money saturating football
I noticed some Peter Swann quotes to that effect but nothing else to back up that claim. I mean, are we really saying we cannot realistically compete with the “giants” of League One like Wycombe, Burton, Cheltenham or Accrington? All doing well in League One.
Anyway, who cares about competing in the Championship – I’d be very happy if we could be competitive in League Two!

just go out Iron and win the bloody game.
Just is doing quite a bit of work in there!
Iwelumo’s a pundit on Scottish TV now, still looks in good nick but not sure he’d get around the pitch that well, 7 years on from when he was last here!
Several thoughts: I wish we’d signed journeyman Reuben Reid. He is not special but always does a job every time I see him lead a line. Reid for Loft and our season would have been far better than it has been.
Didn’t Reid originally make his name at Yeovil? Or was that Plymouth?
Fair enough. On an unrelated note, here’s the sweary Peterborough chairman talking about a L2 striker who scored 8 goals last season.

Do you not think Rowe would make a good CB San Fran? I think it might be his best position ultimately but happy to be persuaded otherwise.
Which club WG? And where was it said , announced, or published? Don’t think that’s to much to ask.
I might be wrong but I recall the Peterborough chairman talking about approaching Loft or at least enquiring about him.
Hard to judge a player when they’re chucked on late in the game to solve a specific problem. I didn’t think he looked out of place though.
Fair enough, happy to take the word of someone who’s seen more of him than me. Be interesting to see what decision Hill makes when Davis is fit.
Not been impressed recently with him recently, on his day he is one of our better players but his level of performances are falling short for me.
What are his best attributes for you? For me, he looks fantastic in the air, particularly in the opposition box. But he’s so slow when turned and his passing is a real problem for us. If Eisa’s hamstring hadn’t gone, his muffed clearance would probably have cost us a goal on Saturday and that was his second such dodgy moment.
I dunno, maybe he isn’t fit, in which case I’ll cut him some slack, but I’m far from convinced.
On the upside, I thought Taft looked pretty good this weekend.
He seems to have hardly played last season, so interesting he’s getting games now in the Premier League. Fantastic for him though, it’s an amazing story to have come from non-league to the top flight in a few years.
I wonder what will become of our other Premier League former defender, Mr Bedeau?
Did you see the game? How did he get on? I see they kept a clean sheet so he must have done something right.
Best headed goal I’ve seen in aeons from an Iron player and Jarvo was oh-so-close to a second.
An absolutely magnificent header, like Paul Baker or Duncan Ferguson. More of that please!
On the negatives, if Onarise is one of our better players then we will get relegated. He’s good in the air but terrible on the ground – with and without the ball.

That’s one of the most craziest deals we’ve completed. Hallam either needs paying up or loaning out in Jan.
No point at all in keeping a player here who simply isn’t even able to play. May as well just buy a cardboard cut out of an ex footballing great…stick it in the treatment room and use it as a clothes rack.
Interesting to rant about a player always being injured and not contributing on a thread about a player who’s been out injured & worse and has just made a scoring return to playing. Almost as if sometimes it’s worth playing the long game.
Fair points MK, maybe I’m reading too much into it, happy to be proven wrong.
In what way distancing himself … what did he say to make you think that?
I dunno, hard to put my finger on it exactly, I just got the feeling that he was still talking more as an outsider than as someone who really felt part of the club. I might be doing him a complete disservice, in which case I apologise, like I say it was more an impression that I got from listening to him.
November 25, 2021 at 4:55 pm in reply to: Review calls for radical shake up of English football #218475Lower leagues now mean less than women’s footy. and less than Scottish prem.
Footy results were always in order from div 1 to div 4, THEN Scottish.Footy?
FOOTY?
Does anyone know if the local press has traditionally paid a fee to report on games?
November 25, 2021 at 12:30 pm in reply to: Review calls for radical shake up of English football #218469Once again the emphasis is on the PL, it’s as though nothing matters outside of it.
But that is where the biggest reforms need to be? The PL is a black hole sucking all money towards it. If we can curb their greed, there might be a bit more left lower down the leagues.

Agree, difficult to introduce youngsters into a shambolic team. When/if enough of the regulars gain some confidence by winning a few games there could be an opportunity.
I fully agree with the sentiment that you have to be careful with youngsters but it still feels like a bit of an excuse from Hill. Young players have to be supported and not hung out to dry but they also don’t have the mental baggage of older players, they often play with far less fear and they might just be the answer.
If I remember rightly they wanted money from us to report our games, Swann probably due to the fact he thought the paper had an agenda played hardball with the fee they wanted and told them to jog on.
I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure it was a case of SUFC wanting money for the Telegraph to attend matches.
Howard had his limitations, but anybody serious suggesting that given the choice, they’d rather have Watson should seriously be questioning their sanity….
Me! I would. Howard was crap and this season’s version of Watson is a serious upgrade on him.
Does Hill do any such post match media interviews ? yet to see one other than on the SUFC website.
He was on Humberside before 10pm on Tuesday, sounded to me like he’s already trying to distance himself a bit from the job he’s inherited.
