Youve got to take into consideration what Hill inherited from Cox .. i rate him as a manager but sadly he isnt a fairy godmother with a magic wand..

I think I have done that – the fact that until last night Hill was getting worse results than Cox did with a similar, then improved, squad was a worry. Still a relatively small sample size though, time to improve things.

That said, if we’d lost last night, I think Hill would have been on very shaky ground.

I still think the fact that the Walsall player got away with it was wrong. And Labadie definitely should have gone.

Labadie was a pretty open & shut case, definite second yellow for the drag back on Nuttall.

Pughs first yellow was given by the lino right in front of us never a yellow but for their player Kinsella i think but not sure rolling around and then all of a sudden we are ok,terrible sportsmanship i love it that we have a bit of nigglyness anout us

He went in studs up at about chest height – I think he was lucky not to walk for that one.

A game we would have lost under Cox?

    Discuss.

A game we’d have lost under Hill 9 times out of 10 too.

We were awful last night but we were lucky enough to finally come up against an equally bad opponent. Yet we even managed to look distinctly second best for the first 20 minutes and our goal – from a brilliant free kick – was completely out of keeping with the rest of the game!

I thought Rowe did well & Grant has something to offer but aside from the 3 points, I’m not sure how much we can really take from that performance. We were even the width of a post away from conceding another goal from a set piece.

Pugh stood/kicked the Walsall player after getting up from the bad tackle. Their player should have had a card but Pugh deserved a yellow for what he did too. In fact, his first booking was a bad foul and could on another day have been a red.

I thought we were dirty at times last night – Nuttall was really niggly when he came on in particular. I don’t have a problem with that but we can’t complain if there are consequences to playing like that.

Not sure how Watson stayed on – did it hit him in the face? It looked like a handball outside the box but it wasn’t the clearest view on the TV.

The Shay 1981/2 or year after was the pits (speedway pits to be precise). Doubt it had changed much since 1968!

The Shay’s a great ground these days, two huge terraces (well, big for modern times) behind the goals and a big main stand which they’ve finally got finished. I think there’s an older stand on the other side. Well worth a visit next season.

Thanks DM, I’ve used it in the past for the odd game when SUFC has promoted it but I wasn’t sure what the general rule was.

Never thought I would say this Les but I do miss the Berkley.

I loved the Berkley, my favourite pub in town really. If you class it as being “in town”.

BT Sport has a TV contract for the National League, so whilst you wouldn’t be able to stream specific games, as I understand it, there is a much better chance of some of our games being on live TV.

I think it’s a Football League product Les, so I would doubt it. It will be possible to listen online to the radio commentary, however.

Cheers all. I saw the game tonight was available to buy but had no confidence it would actually let me watch it after paying!

Also… I’m going to venture into the ‘iron bar’ pre-game- is this Away fan friendly ?

It tends to vary from game to game in my experience, hopefully you’ll be ok although be warned that the beer’s pretty poor, service can be slow & it’s not a patch on the bar at the Bescott.

I was quite shocked to find out that big clubs only do electronic tickets these days, which seems much of a faff than paper ones to me.

You could have said….. I was pissing by the trop dour, but we bomped into Koth Hull who served us.

Or, in Alcazar’s case, a simple “Good Moaning”.

Fans not being customers is a chimera

    I read this in Mark E. Smith’s voice. “a chimer-aaaaaa”

Check the website Ferrite, there’s some offers on I believe.

I know you’re a troll or a parody but this is exactly how the club’s attitude to marketing comes across: “you come to us” rather than actively looking the other way round.

Wasn’t that unbeaten run under Wilcox some kind of record, what was it, 28 games or something?

Yep, sounds about right. Think we managed about 23 in 2005 too.

Why’s it naive? If you want to enjoy the good times you’ve got to endure the bad. Imagine what difference an extra 1000 fans could make to the playing budget? £250k per season at least!

Hi UTI, can you give some examples of initiatives put in place by the club to try to attract new fans (customers) or get old ones to return? Thanks!

It’s interesting. When Cox was here Ferrite was eagerly pointing out that the problem went beyond the manager, now it seems that the manager does have some fault. :-)

I’m just a bit baffled by how Hill is seen as some sort of a messiah among Iron fans. I realise this is partly due to how miserable the football had got under Cox and how Iron fans are desperate for some fresh hope but Hill’s not had much of an impact on the pitch so far. Hopefully it will come.

It must be said that Cox seemed to be in approval of at least some of the duds we’ve signed, and left them unfit, so cannot be whitewashed as some great manager. He was useless. :-)

I’ll leave it to better people than me to judge the fitness thing, I’m not entirely sure about that. He deffo signed some duds though! And his team was just awful to watch – that Barrow away game was a particular low.

One round earlier in the cup, I think. But you can have a drink in the ground & away trips should be a bit cheaper.

He’s done all those things and should go but if he does go then our Club goes.
We are screwed on and off the pitch by him

Not sure I buy this line of thought. The word from the club is that it is “sustainable”, which I understand to mean that the club spends what it earns. If that is the case, what does it matter who the owner is?

However you look at it – the squad has surely improved, hasn’t it?
The fact that that match fitness is sadly lacking does not mean that Hill has not done everything anyone could have done to ameliorate our terrible situation.

Results & performances would suggest otherwise so far.

The big question is why did all these signings have to wait for the last minute? We should have ready to go at the end of December. How many games have we played in January, five or six? If we’d got those players – even half of them – in at the start of January, we might conceivably have a prayer.

However, maybe the optimism is there because we are hoping we actually might be competitive in games, perhaps create more than 2 chances every home game, score a few more goals and provide something resembling entertainment.

I’ll raise a glass to that! Being crap is one thing; being crap AND boring is much, much worse.

I think that we are all trusting Keith Hill`s judgement/previous experience with the new signings in the hope that we have at long last got someone at the club whom we can trust.

Out of interest, and not saying you’re wrong, what are you basing that trust on?

Well we’d all settle for the IA but that’s setting the bar quite a bit higher!

So long as he’s not this season’s Neil Woods or Ian Ormondroyd!

The thing with KDT I think is he knows nobody will sign him so he won’t take a pay off and his agent can still tout him as a current league 2 player

Someone mentioned last week that he’s already played for 2 clubs this season so he might not be able to sign for a third one until next season anyway.

Also, if we just pay up his contract, we don’t save any money and therefore releasing him wouldn’t free up any space for additional wages under the embargo.

I tend to agree with Bob – I love the optimism among the fans but I don’t share it myself. I think we’ll win tomorrow but ultimately it will prove a bit of a false dawn.

Nuttall = this season’s Brian Quailey?
