Amazes me why supporters seem so increasingly perplexed when the line up picked isn’t what they expected.

Predicting a 2-1. Won’t be there today sadly – the rough and tumble of the Mortz was all getting a bit too much. No wonder I don’t go to matches anymore ;)

‘it was far worse back then. Well for the likes of you anyway.’

You’re wrong about that in regards to facilities like we had at OSG. I loved it far more than anything we have now. No issue with the hooliganism either. It happened and we were all young once. Certainly added some excitement (not everyone will agree). I’m not completely pro-sanitising the match day experience, and not a fan of Savage btw.

Lol, careful now Siderite, you’ll get accused of being ‘buddy’ again like on another thread. Whatever relevance that had?

You seem to be tying yourself in knots awaywego. One minute you’re saying it’s the same as back then, then you randomly wheel in anything about the match day experience other than what the topic (which I didn’t start btw and wouldn’t have bothered raising) is about: Robbie Savage complaining about discriminatory and abusive chanting that over stepped the line (though we still don’t know what specific language he’s complaining about).

Tragedy chanting hasn’t nearly gone btw. It’s very much still around. Like racist chanting though, it’s far less than previous times.

It doesn’t bother me too much personally if I hear discriminatory chanting and it won’t stop me going to support the Iron, never has done, but one, it’s a bit naff and depressing and I keep a fair distance from it, and two, it’s a sad state of affairs if it puts some people off going, which research shows it does. Not attending matches due to it or attending and not feeling welcome or threatened is basically saying ‘you can go if you can handle it but you’ve no right to complain because we’re living in the dark ages so put up or shut up’.

‘I’ve been going for 56 years now and it’s the same now as it always as been.’

Another load of BS I’m afraid. It’s a very different experience. You just make up stuff in an attempt to justify your Neanderthal like attitude and prejudices (i.e. women shouldn’t be allowed to attend mens games, etc). You’re a dinosaur.

Agree with Cass about the older days before my time in the 50s. You don’t even understand he’s saying it was different back then awaywego, not the same as these days, like you’d prefer it to say.

‘Football is really not for you and I understand why you don’t go to games anymore Deerey,’

Pity that statement is completely untrue, not that it matters a jot, though I wondered how long it would be before you wheeled out that rubbish.

Would you or would you not agree that football matches should be for everyone and you should be able to attend without feeling threatened or unsafe by louts chanting mindless discrimatory crap? Awaywego, you don’t need to answer, you made your position on women at mens football matches clear on Bru a long time ago. Think it was around 2015 but may well have been 1955 in attitude.

We still don’t know exactly what was said, but Carlisle United have released this statement below. It’s bigger than Savage, whether some of you like it, or agree or not:

“The Club promotes equality, diversity and inclusion and expects everyone attending Brunton Park to show respect for all participants, players, staff, officials, opponents and fellow fans.

“We understand games are passionate and emotive, but abusive or discriminatory language and chanting is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the Club, as detailed in our Club Charter and policies.

“Any instances identified will be dealt with in accordance with our Sanctioning Policy.”

‘i do think this early excellent form will tail off in fact signs it already is doing with injuries and suspensions derailing the flowing attacking football seen thus far’

Fair appraisal I reckon. Not surprising it looks like it’s happening, which is why I think it’s fairer to accept it and let the club compensate for it the best they can, rather than singling out anyone or anything. All supporters will have ideas about how to improve the situation but targeting individual players as the prime cause, as witnessed recently, isn’t the way forward. It’s a modern phenomenon and not just in football – people expecting instant gratification and club action.

Definitely feels slumpish and jaded, though some good build up play was squandered numerous times at the final hurdle. Barely anyone questioned the game needing to be replayed Rene, and at the time we welcomed it thinking we could go back and get 3 points. Just unfortunate we’ve slipped back a little and Eastleigh have picked up.

Just back to the Watson debate, I’m afraid, the only reason this whole conversation about him, and Campbell before that, has become so tribal is due to unnecessary and unfair criticism that started before either kicked a ball in the league this year and has continued seemingly in order to prove the harshest critics right. Maybe if they stopped digging either out for any conceded goal that was hardly their fault we might move forward. But even last night they were at it again. Bru doesn’t exist in a vacuum I’m afraid. Just like any other news topic, it’s part of a social media world and occasionally comments and views from other corners will be thrown in to the pot here, whether some posters like it or not. my post about their keeper during the game last night isn’t due to obsession or agenda with keepers, it came from an observation whilst watching the game on stream and is exactly the sort of comment I would have made to a fellow supporter had I been at the game. Yes, it’s sad the harshest and over the top keeper critics have precipitated it, but an in game observation it was. Just to add, I have no beef with fair criticism of Watson or Campbell; neither are perfect by any means, and there are better keepers out there. It’s the unbalanced and frankly disrespectful comments about them that I and I’m sure plenty of other supporters have that’s the issue.

Their keeper has made two clangers, on another day costing them two goals. Wonder if he gets the same level of criticism Watson and Campbell get? Probably not if some of their supporters were happy with him from day one and view him better than Sunday league and don’t want to see him gone. Lucky lad.

‘Perhaps if he hadn’t been such a knob throughout his playing and punditry careers he wouldn’t be a target’

I’m not sure you understand the implications of that, but it’s all opinions, I keep being told.

Yep, I’m reserving judgement untill I know what was said. You admit to not knowing what was said yourself but seem happy to jump on the ‘deserved it’ bandwagon with a ‘pot / kettle’ remark, demonstrating you’ve completely missed the point. Your last question is irrelevant aswell. Still all opinions, innit?

Literally couldn’t give a flying one about what you expect from others awaywego. You post like it’s mandatory to answer your questions. I’ve asked some but if people don’t answer I don’t really care tbh. The OP title says ‘Thoughts?’ and that’s what I’ve given on the subject matter.

    ‘Pot and kettle personified.’

That would imply he’s dished out discriminatory and abusive language that crosses the line in the past. What specific incidents are you aware of?

    Surely abuse is abuse.
“acceptable” Lol. of course I expect that would come down to your interpretation.
So many people are so far up their own arse and so self righteous unbelievable!

Some people are a bit thick, total plebs and uneducated aswell.

Can I just ask a few of you what exactly it is that you think he should be taking and deserving of? Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t think that level of detail has been publicised yet. Or is he just fair game for any level of discriminatory and abusive language, in your opinion?

My thoughts are that I’ll reserve judgement till I know what ‘discriminatory and abusive’ language was used and whether it overstepped the mark or not. Regardless of his pantomime villain character and a WUM, some language is simply inexcusable. I suspect he wouldn’t have made such a point about it if it wasn’t way over mark. Be interesting to hear or see the FA report on it when completed.

Exactly why this obsession with targeting our keepers as ‘not good enough and never will be’; ‘sunday league’; ‘Dog & Duck’; and so bad some prominent voices want them out the club is driving some of us to distraction. Others squeaking on the sidelines are simply amplifying it. Get a grip.

Watson stopped a good shot flying with force. It’s not his fault our defence led to that and the player running in and seizing the rebound opportunity. Slow and sloppy defending yet again. Massive room for improvement which I’m optimistic can be worked on and reduced.

Why are you bringing ‘moderators’ in to a difference of opinion? No one’s deleted your opinions so it’s a moot point. Say what you like about Watson but don’t be surprised if some take umbrage with it. It’s a forum not gospel.

You also seem to have taken my comments about some supporters trying to drive out Watson personally. I’m not aware you’re one of those supporters. Matt Ellis and Wondergoals certainly are. Matt has literally posted words to that effect and others will be aware of it. Even if you’re not.

‘very harsh him getting stick’. Some fans want to drive him out the club. They might have a bit of credence if he really was that bad, but he really isn’t.

There were a few villains of the piece and Watson wasn’t really to blame.

Evans first attempted clearance after an awful first touch was poor.

The subsequent throw in was taken 20 yards away from where it should have been and gave them a clear advantage as it got them in behind.

A chance to clear on the edge of the box was then squandered.

After Watson had made the initial save (which actually wasn’t a bad one) – the lad who ran in and tapped in did so smoking an absolute cigar without a defender, let alone a challenge, in sight.

Watson probably slightly over dived for the initial save so it went back into the mix but he was well down my list of culprits for that goal to the point he wasn’t actually on the list at all.

He also had a very decent game – lest we forget the one on one etc.

Overall i had no complaints with his performance.

Sone of the analysis on this board is genuinely funny. It’s like listening to a load of 8 year olds – the goalkeeper let them all in so it must be all his fault we just got done 12-0.

Spot on apb. There’s certainly some blow hards around who deem themselves experts in goalkeeping punditry, as tedious and predictable as Match of the Day pundits.

Didn’t say it was his fault. Just said it was poor goalkeeping.

Would have been judged poor goalkeeping 40 years ago down at Ashby Ville on a Sunday morning.

No it wouldn’t. And I saw enough games down there to testify to that.
