Ì think it’s safe to assume a number of you haven’t got a new marketing role at GP. Agree though, ‘derby’ is a stretch.
Every person at strategic level within Hamas is highly unlikely to be killed so even if its removed some of these people their close associates and relatives will be around in some shape or form. This is constantly ignored or undressed by the Israeli government despite experts from the international community telling them that. Accepting that Hamas will never concede anything and will never deviate is unhealthily pessimistic IMO.
I’d hope the club look to recreating an academy if and when back in the EFL, external funding permitting. Not interested in Hilton’s short termist thoughts on the subject – he almost broke the club for good. There are more community and developmental benefits to eventually having an academy again at some point than merely producing the odd gem
There won’t be any long peace unless far right extremists on both sides make concessions and allow something to be brokered. That is possible and that’s what Hain was saying yesterday. Where there’s a will there’s a way, not without. I don’t subscribe to your ‘no matter what’ outlook. Bleak, IMO. There are equally plenty of Israeli’s in positions of power and influence that will continue to hate Palestinians and wish to get rid. You can say ‘claim to be the victims of Israeli aggression’, but whether you like it or not, they are. That’s indisputable, not a mere claim.
Of course there are more moderate parties. The onus isn’t all on Israel to end the current conflict but it is chiefly on them to find a solution because Hamas certainly isn’t going to, as we all know. Agree with ‘forced migration’ – I assume that means you view ‘voluntary’ migration as a sham?
That’s been said before, plus what could a post election government look like? Not confident it would necessarily be that much more moderate and oppose something like this
For better or worse though? Who knows.
I don’t think there will be long term peace until the settler issue is addressed. And it’s delusional to believe Hamas can be completely destroyed.
Some Iron supporters have occasionally been guilty of that same blind optimism over the last few years as we slipped out the divisions.
Maybe something has to give?
I’d also argue this claim below is at odds with some of your posts from a few weeks ago which, correct me if I’m wrong, were suggesting civilian casualties in war are inevitable? Of course they are, but not on this level and scale of inhumanity surely?
‘but I naively hoped that there wouldn’t be the response we’ve seen from Netanyahu’s Israel’.
“I didn’t just single out academics”
You didn’t single them out but you included them in a broad brush sweep. Might be better if you were more specific about who has said such a statement because from what I read, it looks like they’re part of a pack you’re demonising. Sorry, but That’s how it reads
I thought the Newsweek piece was excellent. I also think his commemt on Oct 7 is more thoughtful than claiming Hamas started it on Oct 7, which is too simplistic IMO…
‘While Hamas’ horrendous Oct. 7 attack seriously set back hopes of a lasting peace, it is indisputable that the security and well-being of Israelis are inexorably linked to the dignity and prosperity of Gazans.’
So which academics have said ‘Hitler had a point’?
Maybe you’ll get a reply once new staff are in post? Isn’t James currently undertaking 4 or 5 roles at once, including SLO?

I honestly think this claim you made in response to the Peston Tweet is a sweeping generalisation:
‘Many of those claiming this end up silencing the rise of antisemitism.’
I’m also interested know exactly which academics have said ‘Hitler had a point’, as you posted.
Okay, I’m not remotely suggesting that antisemitism is not on the rise and neither is Peston or Steinberg, so I don’t get why you are so dismissive of legitimate criticism of Israel’s appaling ongoing actions. As Steinberg says:
‘If Israel’s cause is just, let it speak eloquently in its own defense. It is very telling that some of Israel’s own supporters instead go to extraordinary lengths to utterly silence the other side. Smearing one’s opponents is rarely a tactic employed by those confident that justice is on their side. If Israel’s case requires branding its critics antisemites, it is already conceding defeat.’
‘university academics on twitter have said such comments about Jews, made calls in support of the ‘resiistance’ on Oct 7th and deans have said that calls for genocide of Jews are not necessarily antisemitic.’
Who has said this? I don’t spend much time on Twitter, too many individuals playing one upmanship, taking part in pile ons, kangaroo courts and gotchas. How many uni academics are saying such and are they truly representative of a general body of university academics? I suspect not.
‘now we appear to have money to blow on 3 new non playing staff positions’
How do you know it’s blowing money when you don’t know who they are (apart from one) or their roles? Maybe they’re income generating roles?

‘I didn’t realise he was the spokesperson for all Jews. Most other Jews think differently, but they can be dismissed because Peston is Jewish?’
Gaslighting. ‘Most other Jews think differently.’ WTF is this? Bucks MK2??
‘Meanwhile, NGO members, university academics and activists yap about Zionist cabals controlling the media, denial of atrocities on Oct 7th, how Hitler had a point and how Jews are an evil oppressor class’
And with one clean sweep of the brush…legitimate criticism is demonised. Hello Donald.
‘how Hitler had a point’. Oh aye, how many university academics are saying that? BS.
Funny you should mention conflation Siderite. Exactly what I was thinking.
Incredible Siderite. Robert Peston expresses his opinion as a Jew but you almost completely dismiss it.
Very good honest and passionate statement. No reason to doubt that 3 returning staff are crucial to the board’s plans for a more sustainable future.

Yeah, I recall 1500 Club getting a lot of stick. Did everyone apologise to him? I suspect not.
Very droll
Happy to be ignorant to a lot of the things in it!
