    Came across another today.
Signing up for a shop loyalty card.
HOW MANY layers of security??? 😂
Had to verify I was human three times, chose a password, (usual cr@p), have it verified by my email address.
Have that verified by a code sent to my email and another to my phone…
    WHY????

Yep, multi-factor authentication – another one for the Room 101 of annoying stuff…
Gettting into Victor Meldrew mode now… gotta stop this.

The ones I love a telephone attempted hackers.
My record is keeping one on the line for 25 minutes when he claimed to be Microsoft, and my computer had apparently been hacked.
He finally hung up when he asked me to go to my phone and look at my Apps.
I asked what an aps was.

They don’t ring anymore alcy, I used to ask them if they could sing and when they queried “ excuse me” I would say “ hears a good one from the sixties “ and begin to sing Mr Tambourine Man down the line, half way through the second verse they had hung up.

Probably as I was unimpressed by their corrupt phone call in trying to scam me, seems like we agreed never to bother each other again, absolutely marvellous.

Good one! Try selling them something is fun too – tell ’em you’ve got a car for sale, or some CD’s or some old clothes, and they’re just brilliant, just what they need, etc.

Veering slightly towards controversial territory, but trite phrases and self-declarations of belief that seem to make them sound more reasoable than the opponent. Even though it isn’t backed by evidence.

    Examples include:

“I am entitled to my opinion” – Everyone is, but not all opinions are equal. If your opinion isn’t backed by evidence, then it isn’t as strong as one with evidence and clinging to this to try and make it sound like it is on a par is illogical and damaging for it to be accepted as some legitimate debating point.

“the right side of history” – How does anyone know what the ‘right side of history’ is? Events are usually morally complex and this trite phrase serves to shut off any self-reflection as whether their beliefs are correct. They can use this to assure themselves that they are to be remembered as the ‘heroes’ of today and everyone else as the villain, when it’s far more healthy to give benefit of the doubt to opponents, unless there is sufficient reason, and when their understanding may be proven to be wrong. Plenty of people in history thought they were on the ‘right side of history’ and were wrong. Just look at the eugenecists.

“Contrarian” – Thinking for yourself is valuable, but this often means “I will believe any old crap because it’s not mainstream and this makes me smart for not following the crowd.” Except there are plenty of beliefs that aren’t mainstream, and just because some people might just accept what they read as true, it doesn’t make opposite views right, nor does believing in fringe views make you some genius. What matters is whether your argument can be backed by evidence, which does often correlate with mainstream beliefs.

On a lighter note, ticks and fleas. At least mosquitos and horse flies are important pollenators, but these blights seem to have little ecological benefits.

““I am entitled to my opinion” – Everyone is, but not all opinions are equal.”
Or as my dad used to say, “I don’t form opinions. I form balanced judgements from known facts, and leave opinions to those of lesser intellect”
    🙂

Not sure what looking Micky is and I don’t find tattoos annoying, just absolutely pointless, a waste of money and look daft in old age. Some look so bad they give me a decent laugh mind.

Modern football, nearly all teams play the same tactics that stifle creativity . I’d prefer long ball any day to the dross we see now

    Lateness

    Agreed.
    Especially my own.
I’d rather be an hour early than one minute late.
Probably stems from a summer holiday around 1963, when we arrived at Dover for a ferry to Boulogne, France, about five minutes short of the required “45 minutes before sailing”.
We ended up in a long line of vehicles caught the same way, and spent the next 36 hours waiting for something to happen, no information no food, no drinks, until the whole queue was led across to the Western Dock, where we were sent aboard a railway ferry that took us to Dunkerque, arriving about 8pm.

Youtube and other social media influencers, especially now they are being seen on TV. Self-centred egos out for drama. As amusing as it was to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic shut that Ishowspeed prat down when he was claiming Portugal would win the world cup because of Ronaldo (alongside past comments about being faster than Zlatan and other stupid comments to get views), it seemed scripted when the camerman then decided to follow the idiot around, acting like some child. I am also forever seeing Thogden and his cringeworthy antics, acting like every football game is amazing, like he is some big name with players and clickbait rubbish. Another one I have seen on Sky as some serious figure. Now we have Mark Goldbridge doing “what’s this overreaction to a heatwave nonsense, wasn’t like this in my day” Daily Mail tosh on twitter.
