May 18, 2023 at 10:30 pm in reply to: Is there evidence that Swann doesn’t actually want to sell the ground? #262638
Good post.
I’ll ask the same question that I asked of Hilton. What is the end game for Swann if he is playing games?
The ground has an agreement for the club to play there for 99 years doesn’t it ? I don’t know how water tight that is as Swann implemented it.
I’d be highly sceptical that Swann will get planning permission for anything worthwhile and the opposition would be as militant as anything you’re going to see in North Lincolnshire.
The random, unregistered strip of land has appeared from somewhere though, these things aren’t missed on a standard property transaction, let alone a 15 acre site worth millions.
Curious to know what interestedbystander and a few others think Hilton’s endgame is?
He’s walked into a loss making club on its knees with no tangible assets. Thus far, 1.3m has gone into the club to pay wages and taxes.
Even if he got his hands on the ground. He’d be the best part of £5m down and would have nightmare getting planning through for anything of note.
There doesn’t seem to be much juice left to squeeze ?

Obviously Hilton took the stage last night but were there any comments from Dean on any issue
I actually thought he came across well. He wants to change the culture behind the scenes and improve the relationship between players-fans. He was enthused by the prospect of an open day which could be on the cards.
He took responsibility for the defeats last year and stated that the players coming in now are his signings. The ones signed in January were essentially not good enough and the ones no-one else wanted.
That all sounds great, but if we get spanked by Rushal Olympic opening game he will fighting for his job.
The only part which was slightly uncomfortable was when he said one of our players has rejected a new deal and no clubs have come in for them “but why would they” this insinuated it was Wilson.
Agreed Rich. In fairness he was not making promises, and only gave supporters estimates to what he was hoping to work too. It may have been naive to put dates out as people will hold to him that.
I also wonder what the legal ramifications will be for him in terms of the NDA’s, he certainly stuck a grenade in them and pulled the pin tonight.

It was about as candid as a fans forum you are likely to see.
Hilton did a complete character assassination on Swann; it felt abit uncomfortable after the first couple of jokes, however it was an easy clap in the room
The deal for the land has fallen through because of an unregistered piece of land in the car park- a piece of land that miraculously avoided detection when the land passed from Wharton to Swann. The strip of land can be used as a ransom strip against the club and hinders insuring the land. In addition the planning permission has expired on the apartments which will also require significant ground works due to being in a flood zone. There is an also a massive discrepancy in land valuations- Hilton had to agree on the original price to purchase the club and save us from going bust. It was that black and white: buy the club without carrying out due diligence or we were out of business.
Hilton has bought the land at Glebe road to build a new ground. The council are on board with this and I know this to be a fact, they proposed the land to him. The funding will come from multiple sources; the levelling up fund being one such source. No confirmation on design or capacity as it’s too early. The biggest obstacle will be land remediation work; Initial surveys have come back ok. However, no-one knows what was dumped there. Hilton is further ahead with progressing with the new ground than I Initially thought. He he hoping for planning in 3 months with completion set in 24 months.
In the short term, he hopes we remain at Glanford park. This is where it gets confusing and to be honest I can’t explain it well; he is sub letting the ground from himself, to the club for a minimum of 12 months but hoping for 24 months. He expects Swann to sue him personally for this. He is willing to pay Swann £20,000 a month to lease the ground but they are no longer in speaking terms. This will get incredibly messy as we all know Swann will fight this tooth and nail.
Hilton has paid off the tax bill in full and covering the wages since his purchase. Approx £200,000 a month in which less than 50% is spent on players- a truly shocking statistic.
The club is making little to no money on secondary spending, Ie food/drink/hospitality etc. we even lost money from the Oldham game due to policing costs. Whatever you think of the new ground, you surely must accept that GP is no longer fit for purpose in its current state.
Hilton also wants to invest £2million into a training facility, within scunthorpe, it will have 4g pitches/restaurant and possibly player accommodation. The site will be revealed soon and he is working with the council to develop this.
They are going out to win the league next year and are going to over spend “without being reckless” before moving to a sustainable model. This bit made me feel uneasy after our last endeavours but can we afford to spend years in the NLN?
Overall, I left the meeting feeling more optimistic than I have in years. However, we have all been here before haven’t we? I’ll continue to question decisions and remain cautious until we see action rather words. In the meantime he has my backing and I’ll encourage others to get behind the club as we really need to pull together now.

All very confusing this. I thought Hilton said the reason for the takeover for the stadium and land taking till end of May was due to legal processes and checks etc? So I can only assume there was a problem identified along that process and not a financial issue? I expect we’ll have full clarification tomorrow night. Should clear up a lot of confusion.
I don’t think you’re far off the mark there.
Worth remembering this deal was rushed through to save the football club. There was nothing left in the pot and we were going bust.
Due diligence has been done the wrong way round but that was the position Hilton was in.
Hopefully tomorrow is the start of some honest dialogue between the club and supporters. The amount of NDA’s surrounding the club is probably the biggest culprit to why we are all paranoid wrecks.
If that’s the case Cliff, why did you post ‘ground’ earlier? Some people are targeting other posters for posting rumours and conspiracy theories but in all fairness, you seem to be doing no different?
Rumours and conspiracy theories have no evidence to back them up; See transfer embargo, or Ilkeston Iron for a couple
Of recent ones.Siderite asked if the land was acquired was for training pitches- it was ‘acquired’ for a possible location of a ground in the future. No conspiracy theory there?
My opinion- not a rumour- is that the deal is More of a contingency plan for the future if the deal does collapse , and also for Hilton to be in a stronger negotiating position

Nothing wrong with Simon voicing an opinion, he has no formal capacity at the club as far as I’m aware so he can post what he likes.

I don’t expect a stadium to be built there InterstedBystander
The fact we’ve erected 2 big shiny signs on the fence today suggests it’s a negotiating tactic to bring Swann back to the table.
If Swann calls Hilton’s bluff in 2 weeks time, this could get messy
Training pitches? I would have thought buying GP would make more sense than building a new ground here. Surely it’s cheaper, especially as this site will almost certainly need remediation.
Ground.

Bishop Stortford not happy bunnies trying to claim there not northern how dare they! Evidently they can appeal the decision.
Although unfortunate, it’s the logical decision.
In terms of travelling time, I often find it’s easier to reach some southern teams due to our motorway/railway network being biased towards London.
Some of the east-west journeys can be a right pain, Especially with the m62 usually restricted.
Unfortunately, unlike the transfer embargo fantasy- it does carry weight.
Hopefully a resolution will be reached before the fans forum
I mentally switched off long before the Eastleigh game so can’t remember how either played.
Eastleigh fans disappointed they are going and reading some good things online about both.
Promising start.
just seen a rumour on twitter we are also under a transfer embargo until the pensions are up to date🤡🤡🤡
Whoops

Pat O Cake is a hilton apologist and no doubt be will be applauding like a seal when he announces the deal has gone to shit and we won’t be playing at Glanford in august. i am also sure it will be Swann fault that hilton hasn’t got the money to pay what he owes and what he agreed
Poor form.
Everyone is basing an opinion on different information. You probably know more information than Pat, I probably know more than you, and there’s someone how probably knows more than me.
If/when the deal does collapse, it will another horrific chapter in our recent history and potentially one that could cost the club its existence.
Ease off.
Hopefully Hilton knows some good scaffolders Mick.
There is a realistic possibility we won’t be playing at GP next year.
Not necessarily down to Hilton either.
Can you substantiate it’s not necessarily down to Hilton, or is that one of those supposed conspiracies some supporters have been going on about for months? Why should it be believed that it’s not Hilton’s fault, if it turns out we’re playing elsewhere next season, particularly as many have been saying for months that he hasn’t got the money?
I can’t substantiate anything, only going off information I am told.
I suspect the deal will be shrouded in NDA’s as that is Swanny’s MO, therefore I’ll leave it there before a letter arrives through the door.
Sincerely hope it can all get resolved as ground sharing will be monumental disaster.

Chester and Kings Lynn staying down.
Wouldn’t mind seeing the back of Brackley who face Kidderminster in the final

Good on them for giving it a go, more iron content the better. Not particularly a fan of the non-Iron talk but each to their own and them seem to have plenty tuning in.
Do miss the regular instalments of Iron Bru though.

Foster on trial with Hull this week apparently. If manage to get 6 figures and a sell on we’ve done ok.
That’s Warrington and Rushall up then. Who are the other 2?
May 1, 2023 at 3:52 pm in reply to: For Pity’s Sake When Is The Very Short Retained List Announced? #261441At some point, we are going to have to realise that just changing all the players every 6 months isn’t going to solve our problems. Where’s the coaching? When is a manager going to improve some players and get more out of them? What about the people signing the players and scouting new ones?
This endless churn just creates instability.
The coaching aspect is a good point. We’ve had players look utter dross or bang average and go on to significantly improve elsewhere. Hill/Hurst in particular are good football league managers, why could they not turn the tide?
Our failures are systemic and pass from one manager to the next and one group of players to the next. Hopefully Hilton can change the culture at the club; No mean feat.

April 30, 2023 at 9:45 pm in reply to: For Pity’s Sake When Is The Very Short Retained List Announced? #261384Beestin is under contract too; he’d be one of the first out of the door for me along with O’Malley. Those lads are conditioned to losing, along with Tom Pugh who hasn’t displayed enough for me to warrant a new deal
For the rest of the players, the first thing I’d be doing if I was Dean is getting them 1-1 and asking them why they want to stay And what they can offer. If the answers aren’t satisfactory then they’d be going on the transfer list.
This is one of the worst Scunthorpe United teams in our history and they have downed tools for a good part of this year. They have got away lightly in my opinion.

I wont look a prat on 24th may , that will be Hilton
It’s Not always the buyer’s fault.
A.F.C. Fylde going up as champions, pleased to see the back of them as they are full time and looked to have been bankrolled the last few years. Gloucester enter the play offs, replacing Scarborough who we are destined to play mid winter on a Tuesday night.
At the other end Northumbiron will be pleased to see Blyth managing to survive. Elsewhere Russ Wilcox and Andy butler have helped keep Farsley Celtic up, retaining a localish trip for iron fans Next year

The realism about a phoenix club is that it would be more akin to AFC Mansfield then AFC Wimbledon
After reading that document I can’t see there being too many complaints about the pies…

Another northern traditional league club falling out the league. That’s ourselves, Rochdale, Hartlepool, Bury, Oldham, Notts County, Chesterfield, York, Macclesfield, Darlington all step 5 or below now.
Their crowds have dropped alarmingly and have struggled to get 2k home fans through the door often. Don’t write them off joining us in NLN next year.
Hopefully not to be replaced with another London suburb or commuter town like a Boreham Wood or Bromley.
