Just had a check on the OWS, it shows we currently have 9 players who, at a stretch, could be classed as experienced. 4 of those have “fitness issues”.

I could feel a bit of excitement but if two of them are a rookie ‘keeper and a crock from 2 divisions below then it won’t last long.

Well I said I wasn’t going to watch it, and I didn’t, I was down the pub.
But the calling of the Harvey’s Best Bitter was the only call I answered.

A sympathetic response m’lord. I spent a weekend in Sussex recently and visited 3 pubs for a pint of bitter. One didn’t have any on draught and the other two only Harveys, who seem to have a monopoly round there. The head barely lasted back to the table! Can’t you petition for some John Smiths or Boddingtons and give yourself and others a treat?

How’s recruitment going Matt? Have we got a stronger squad than The Iron at this stage?

Definitely a good professionally made promo video, wonder if any of the people in it were actual Accrington fans?

    Very unlikely I would think.

Of course every proper lower league side needs a ginger with a short fuse.
Hoping Whitehouse is going to fill the vacancy.

No vacancy, we’ve already got Max Bell.

I wouldn’t rule youngsters out 100%, we’ve had a few gems (and plenty of duds)
It’s chancy of course, with a player having 40/50 games under their belt you know what you’re getting. I might be optimistic (I can be sometimes, it doesn’t last long) but the thought of another Cork, Lansbury, Yates whets my appetite a little.

    It’s a secret!!
I hope the set up in the match report was wrong – Gallimore RB and Rowe MF. Surely not. Or was it 3 CBs and WBs?

I’m sure our commercial staff must spend hours brainstorming different scenarios to get bums on seats without upsetting the already prepaid season ticket holder’s.

I don’t know what the commercial department consists of but I think you’re being extremely generous here. The club could save several wages and lots of time by simply employing one person to read Bru, pretend the ideas were theirs and action the serious ones.

If that were the case, it would have made sense to publish these prices during the “early bird” season ticket period, surely? Then you could see what you were actually saving.

Yes, I agree, I think the phrase “made sense” was probably the reason that wasn’t done. The club don’t have great recent history in the “sense” area.

Two weeks into training and still only one signing. The 5 known trialists have been with us for 2 weeks, enough time for a decision to be made surely.
    Are they all still here?
Are the players stalling hoping for a better offer?
Are we close to other signings?
Have we identified other trialists e.g. Peplow?
Come on Lee, throw us some crumbs, the silence is deafening.

A couple also from Championship club Middlesbrough so getting a good’un isn’t guaranteed. We should look at Peplow though, Huddersfield has been a happy hunting ground for us, Wallace, Lolley and Holmes weren’t bad.

“Wolves and Bristol City players on trial at Notts County”

An example of what we’ll be up against next season? A touch above Warrington Rylands! Mind you we’ve had a couple of duds from Wolves IIRC.

I’m slightly concerned that the names of trialists has been revealed, although it’s something we’re all keen to know. Normally names are withheld so as not to alert other clubs to their availability. Does this mean that there is absolutely no chance that any other club could possibly be interested in the quality of player that we’re giving trials to?

Behind youngsters Gallimore, Cribb, Moore-Billam from what I’ve seen plus any senior CMs we have when the season starts so unlikely to get game time IMO. Amazed we kept Shrimpton for the same reason.

Watson (player of the season) still available.

Seems like a Huddersfield U23 Peplow played for us today. Another possible trialist? Judging by the text commentary he got involved when he came on.

Most of the defenders are used to playing with a line hugger (I think it’s what Mussy coaches) They’ll be completely baffled if we get a keeper that takes command of his box. We can hope.

He usually disappears for a while when asked a question that can’t be answered without admitting he might be completely brainwashed by certain individuals. Sadly he is oblivious to the perilous reality of the current situation. He might be back in the unlikely event of a morsel of good news which he can spin into a major triumph or perhaps he has finally seen the light.

Please can a moderator/SST ban me from replying on this forum. I waste far too much time replying to people who seem to enjoy nothing better than offering destructive comments about SUFC.

Can you give us a few examples of these destructive comments please. I see plenty of justified criticism, it’s a football forum after all, but I’ll need reminding of a significant number of posts that could be classed as destructive.
