If it’s any consolation my continuing pessimism that The Iron would lose didn’t produce success either.
Some might say that the U-turns show he is listening to the fans. Whilst there is truth in that, you must wonder what thought and planning went into those decisions in the first place.
One more U-turn needed if he’s still listening.
I believe MFI’s personal physician, Sir Otiose Stultify, has this under control having adjusted his medication recently.

Don’t you think we’ve been punished enough les?

Trust!! Something seriously lacking both in and around GP it seems.
Who can be trusted? A short list I think – players? management? ownership? supporters?2 users thanked author for this post.
Depends who owns the club doesn’t it?

his last 2 seasons over 1.5pts per game
Totally irrelevant, possibly selective?
Fair point, maybe his personality and physical stature got him through. Jimmy has neither. Change in players attitudes certainly a factor, it used to be that no one player was bigger than the club. That’s changed dramatically in the Prem. and everything filters down from there, it seems to have got down to at least one of ours. Ultimately a manager needs the players respect, either he arrives with the credentials that demand it or he earns it. Again neither applies to JD.
We’ve still got Carver.
Well, I’ve had a sleep on it and here’s what I’ve come up with. Either:-
1. Jimmy has no idea about how he wants his team to play.
2. He knows how he wants them to play but can’t communicate that to the players.
3. He communicates OK but the professional players have no respect for him and see Jimmy as a part time, pub team manager and do their own thing anyway.
4. He successfully communicates how he wants them to play, they understand what he wants but aren’t good enough to do it.
For me the most likely is 3. We have senior/experienced players who have spent years as FT professionals several levels above JD’s career and clearly think they know better. (They probably do.) As the young players are encouraged to learn fom the experienced pros it would be no surprise if this “I know better” attitude had filtered down to them. If this is the case then signing players good enough to succeed in NLN will presumably bring more of the same, the alternative being signing players from Peterborough Sports.
Do you think Butterfield would stay as player/manager?True cass but at least Carver put a shift in today, probably his best game yet for us.
A very low bar.
It’s the players – the only common denominator.
My biggest worry for next season is how many are still under contract.
Getting rid of contracted players isn’t easy. It’s a real conundrum. Which is more difficult:-
Getting rid of contracted players or
Anybody who played today and isn’t contracted for next season getting a contract above Sunday League levelWilson should have been subbed in the first half, does the stupid little boy think he’s ‘made it.’ A few went for the “Pugh early finish” option too, Shrimpton, Carver and Daniel could all have seen red.

Well, after being critical of our passing ability all season I am happy to report that our pass success rate today was estimated at over 80% (when passing backwards)
Success rate passing forwards, again estimated, dropped to single figures.
My new criticism after today is the complete inability of our players to control the ball with their first touch, they didn’t get a second as the ball ended up much closer to a Southend player.
In a season full of new lows today was another, do the players not want to play for the club or the manager?1 user thanked author for this post.
Andrew Boyce:-
” about finishing the season as well as possible: “You play for pride, you play for yourself, and you want to do well every time you step on a pitch.”Such a shame that not enough of our players share that view.

Should be there showing potential investors what’s on offer.
(Could be a bit risky I suppose so maybe not)It’s possible that talks with (for example) Smith and Leake have indicated that they would be interested in a permanent move. If so I’d expect those in any discussion to play.
Well picking those “playing for contracts” failed to provide any results so it could be the kids unless JD gives second chances.
mistertonmick has contact normally. Any news mick or is it classified?
I think we have a monopoly on those.

“For all the mistrust of Peter Swann and the desire to see the back of him, it surprises me that you and others have sufficient trust in his judgement to select the club’s next custodian correctly.”This premise assumes that Mr Swann has an interest in what happens to SUFC after he leaves. Latterly he had little or no interest whilst he was still here. It’s more likely that he would sell to anybody that (apparently) had the cash that he wanted/needed.

Takes us back to the turf polishing.
I didn’t realise the pitch was quite that bad! Will the players need spikes rather than studs?
Unnecessary.
“I think we could do a hell of a lot worse then him and plus he’s versatile as he can play in CM at a push too.”
No he can’t, he was abysmal when he played there – square pegs!!

Without Mr Hilton it’s doubtful if we would have a club and for that I am extremely grateful. What happens next is open to speculation if that is your thing, I’ll not bother I’ll just wait and see. Mr Hilton has made a couple ofdecisions which many fans found unacceptable, it takes a big man to admit he might have got it wrong and reverse those decisions. For that he has my utmost respect. UTI.

Let me clarify, by automatic picks I mean on ability not contractually.
Better than we’ve got has to be the criterion.Quite right I-a, how attractive is a team apparently in serious decline. We’re less attractive than the last 2 close seasons and we didn’t attract much quality then. We might have to manage our expectations, some PT players will be earning more than they’ll get being FT with us I suspect.

Sir Otiose lurking also?
Whatever happened to that Sri Lankan supporter that lived in Messingham?CMC & CASSIDYSTASH
You have forced me out of my retirement in order to leave with questions unanswered.
Cassidystash, moving to Ilkeston was a cost cutting exercise to help the finances of Scunny… and closing a loss making stadium in the week was the same reason… you are a low level non league club, not a championship club… spend accordingly and you won’t go bust!
CMC This week (Tues) we held the Derbyshire FA under 18 Cup final… at their request, it pissed it down, but the crowd was good, the bar was packed, the kitchen sold out, the atmosphere was electric and a good time was had by all (anything happen at Glanford Park Tues?)…yesterday we entertained 911 fans at our ground, once again, great atmosphere, bars busy, kitchens unable to cope,Thanks for coming out of retirement Patrick but you still haven’t answered my question. As to the activity at your ground, an excellent initiative. Was it organised by the supporters or staff at the club? Either way it would be difficult at a ground only open every other Saturday which, if you remember, was the concern expressed by Iron supporters.
