Butler said during the interview that he was looking for a squad of under 20.

Somebody needs to tell Butler that a match day squad will be 18. Having a playing squad of under 20, including those named above with regular injury issues, just isn’t workable.

THe odd surprise, DS-F being the main one for me. Let’s hope a good percentage of those offered contracts can be agreed.

Well, we’ve all got our own ideas but I’ll have a crack.
Contracted – Whitehall, Kelly, Fitzsimons, Kouogan, Roberts and Law.
    Kelly to go.
If we can afford – Ogle, Butterfield, Evans, Denton, Beestin, Scales
Should be cheap enough – Boyce, Barrows, Pugh, Shrimpton, DSF, McAlinden, Leesley
Release – Clunan, Elliott, Bennett, Wilson
Sign – Corbett, Blackett, Buckley-Ricketts, Keeper for bench.

Yep, well done winners, Copenhagen led all the way I think. Happy with 7th possibly my best yet. Clearly as my age and experience increase I become more of a danger to the experts. Look out next season!!

Thanks, didn’t hear that. Didn’t somebody say that we’ll be 3 subs from 7 next season? A match day squad of 18 makes a squad of 21 a bit dangerous if that’s the case. A couple of crocks and a couple with disciplinary issues and we’d be short most games.

I would hope (and expect) that Butler plus any assistant and Turnbull (if he’s been scouting) will be responsible. The board can then say no if the players demands are not within budget. Does Butler want 26 players on £1000/wk or 22 players on £1200/wk?
Does he go for 24 players on £1000 and give Butterfield £3000 to keep him?
(Wages are an example only and I’m not suggesting they in any way represent true figures.)
    Good luck Andy!!

I don’t know the ins and outs regarding the various responsibilities of manager, asst manager and head coach but, in our current situation, couldn’t two people cover those jobs? We’ve been hugely overstaffed for the past few seasons and, with budgetry restraints in mind, might savings off the field help maximise the funds for players?Whether we like it or not we’re NLN and need to staff accordingly. If we could afford Butterfield as player coach then an assistant manager could be OK.

Good point, 200 people investing a fiver is better than one person giving a few hundred. 200 not over optimistic is it?

Yes, I am absolutely “staunch” Labour. The Tories are shafting Scunny Steelworks and Scunthorpe Hospital – so I decided to try and do something.
As weird as “n stick it up yer bum” makes you sound, I would always encourage anyone else to get involved with politics (no matter what your views).Standing on the sidelines and bitching does rather sum up why this forum has completely died since Luke Thornhill handed it over to Matt Blanchard, though.

Maybe if you posted about football on here (not politics, we have somewhere else for that) it would resurrect this dead site?
    Or maybe not.

I think, for the player it could depend on their ambition, they’re more likely to move up the leagues with us than their current clubs. For our club the consideration will be financial:-
Are the players in contract? As you say SS might want silly money for Blackett if he is.
Are the players FT or PT? If they are PT with well paid jobs we might not be able to match their total wage, will ambition to be a FT footballer bridge the gap? If they’re FT we must be in with a chance.
I’d just like to think we, at least, asked the questions.
(BTW didn’t Jamie Vardy used to be a pound shop Michael Owen? That worked out OK for him.)

Could we use the proceeds for shirt sponsorship next season and start the cycle again? We might even raise enough for more than one, hopefully somebody that plays a full season.

    1-8 top
    9-16 mid
    17-24 bottom
    9th & 11th in a 24 team league seems pretty mid-table to me.

Butler says we’re going to be the fittest side in the league so players such as Pugh and Shrimpton could be back in favour.

Shrimpton and Pugh both need to be retained as they’ve proven they can easily perform at this level, won’t be on too much and will do everything they can for the club.

They’ve shown they can hold their own in mid-table NLN teams. Pugh in particular has shown little in an Iron shirt IMO. Can’t disagree with the financial and effort part which might just swing it for them. Squad players at best for me.

I don’t call the rumoured £700,000 playing budget competitive.

If I start a rumour that the playing budget is £1.5 million will that satisfy you?

After showing promise last season his perceived ‘success’ seemed to go to his head. It appeared that he was expecting to be snapped up by a higher club and, when that didn’t materialise, he re-signed for us and downed tools. Talented and has time to come again but needs to lose the attitude and realise the need to work at his game and not just rely on ability alone.

We should be asking Butterfield what he wants to stay and, as long as it’s not ridiculous, give him what he wants.

Sheridan is surely not an actual possibility ?

He’s been without a management job for almost 2 years. If he’s desperate for cash then it’s possible. Personally I’d rather have somebody desperate to succeed, like Jimmy but with more experience/ability/contacts.

We’ve also the possibility of cash from the sale of shares which seems to be taking a bit of sorting. 1,000 supporters each buying £100 of shares would be a welcome addition.

Either way he proved to be not very good at managing a full time professional football team so I am delighted the board found him too expensive to rehire.

I suspect the first part of your sentance would be more of a reason for their decision than any financial consideration.
